“smart automation for startups”
Pros
Xero software is really easy to use and it covered everything we needed as a small start-up. It also integrates well with other tools we use, like HR and timekeeping systems which made things much more convenient. When you set up your company, you typically get a trial subscription and a webinar which really helps with onboarding. The automation features are a big time-saver and that's one area where Xero really delivers. Being able to link it with online banking also makes it stand out more than a lot of competing products.
Cons
The only thing I'd really want added is better support for Companies House filings and more complete company management features overall.

Pros
The interface is simple, clean and easy to work with and the classic view is especially good. There are only a few data-pulling issues and those could be organzied a bit more.
Cons
The new invoicing layout is difficult to navigate and I really hope the classic view stays. If the original version was already working well, there didn't seem to be much reason to change it.

Pros
Its standout feature for me is the invoicing. I can create and send invoices in just a few minutes which saves a lot of time. The invoice layouts look very professional and there are plenty of pre-designed templates available to choose from as well.
Cons
One area that could be better is the invoice limit per user. It feels a bit pricey for the number of invoices included and I think it should offer more.

Pros
Coming from a non accounting background, Xero felt very easy to use and was simple to get up and running.
Cons
When we were using it, the mobile app didn't offer the same level of functionality as the desktop version.

Pros
Compared with other options available in Europe, this is probably the closest alternative to QuickBooks but with much better alignment to European business requirements. Unlike Quicken or Expensify, it doesn't require a lot of extra customization which saves quite a bit of setup effort.
Cons
The one part that was frustrating is the bank account connection only brings in future transactions, not any past ones. That becomes a hassle if you add your bank account in the middle of the financial year.

Pros
It is like a more up-to-date, modern version of PayPal which is something I really appreciate.
Cons
There are a few minor things that still need to be ironed out but since it's a newer product, I expect those will get resolved over time. Overall I haven't had any major issues.

It's pretty easy to check gross pay and see all my wage slips in one place.
Cons
Downloading documents can be difficult at times and the total tax paid to date figure appears to be incorrect although I am not sure if that's an issue with the system itself or with how the administrator set it up.

Pros
Xero's ecosystem is on another level. It integrates with more apps than any other cloud accounting platform I have used or seen which makes it incredibly versatile.
Cons
Reporting isn't as flexible as some competing products so that part could definitely be improved.

Our team sees Xero as the top accounting platform available for startups and small businesses.
Cons
At one of our companies, we handle inventory across several warehouses and it still relies on fairly expensive third-party apps to deliver strong inventory management and connect it properly with accounting. That part definitely has room for improvement.

“integrations but too complicated”
Pros
Xero is a very established name in accounting and it integrates with a huge number of banks and other tools that many businesses already use every day.
Cons
Even with that I ended up finding it too difficult to work with because of the complexity and the level of support available. I needed my Shopify orders to sync into it and have invoices generated automatically from them. I also wanted it to display VAT and other taxes so the accounting side would be much simpler. In the end, getting that set up felt impossible and I was left unsure whether it was actually the right option for what I needed. I eventually switched to different software.

Pros
Navigating Xero is very easy and everything I need is simple to locate. I can track and report on different income and expense categories, send invoices directly from within the platform and connect it straight to my bank and credit card accounts. Setting rules for bank reconciliation saves a lot of time and it's also really helpful that my accountant can log in directly instead of me having to prepare, print and send everything over.
Cons
Honestly I don't really have any complaints. It has been working reliably for me.

Using this product has been very easy and it is safe and secure. I am also able to manage my clients accounts from wherever I am which makes my work much more flexible.
Cons
The only downside is that the entry-level plan comes with limits on the number of invoices.

Pros
The platform is easy to use and billing is simple to manage. Also it gives us access to our accounting reports, integrates with our bank and lets us link our credit card which makes day to day use really convenient.
Cons
Costs can climb a little as you add more people to the system. Customer support also tends to take over 24 hours to respond although overall it's still a great tool to work with.
