powerful invoicing and financial control

Pros

Running a larger company becomes much more manageable with this software because it keeps financial transactions organized, helps maintain account balances properly and makes it simple to send computerized invoices.

Cons

One thing that could make it better is if it were free for every customer since some people are not able to afford buying it.

helpful integrations and support

Pros

Between the strong integrations and the responsive support team, Xero has made my day to day work much more manageable. It integrates really well with our credit card expense management system and our invoice scanning app which saves time and keeps things running efficiently. The support team has also been very helpful whenever needed.

Cons

An issue comes up when preparing BAS since it doesn't recognize the GST code GNR. Because of that I still have to manually calculate the final figure.

Pros

The platform is pretty easy to use and connecting it with other tools has been simple as well.

love the gusto integration

Pros

One of the best parts has been the Gusto integration and having support for multiple divisions is really helpful as well.

Cons

The way it handles bank reconciliation is not easy at all. They seem to use the term reconciliation when they really mean categorizing transactions which makes the actual monthly bank reconciliation process feel unclear and difficult to manage. I am still confused by how it's supposed to work and because of that I haven't been keeping up with it as regularly as I should.

simple setup and handy integrations

Pros

I find it pretty easy to use and the platform is very user friendly. The navigation makes sense and setting up the integrations was just as easy.

Cons

The biggest downside is probably the pricing. It's tiered based on payroll so costs can climb depending on your needs.

packed with tools for bigger teams

Pros

Loaded with features, this is an amazing accounting platform for larger businesses especially with payroll included. It works well for everyday bookkeeping, general management and handling a wide range of routine finance tasks.

Cons

Overall it's good software but it didn't really match what our business needed. We're a small company and it felt like there were a lot of extra features included that we'd never actually use, while still paying for them. That also made the interface feel more cluttered than we needed. It's not a fault with the software itself, it just wasn't the right fit for us.

flexible reporting clients enjoy

Pros

Using it is very easy and it works really well when clients want to take part in handling some of their own records. It's also excellent for management accounts especially because the reports can be customized to suit different needs.

Cons

One area that could be better is tracking changes made by clients or other team members. Things like back-posting invoices are not especially simple to follow.

Tool that works

Pros

Xero looks modern and performs really well. The software is very user friendly and it walks you through the core tasks in a way that makes accounting feel manageable even without a deep understanding of bookkeeping or transaction coding.

Cons

A small thing that could be better is having a more direct support option instead of relying mostly on the support forums. That said, it's only a minor complaint and overall everything has been very good.

useful payroll and BAS tools

Pros

The BAS return and payroll features have been really useful. When year-end reporting errors come up, it's fairly easy to go back through the records, find the entries and correct them.

Cons

Getting around the system to locate the right reports and pull the information I need can be frustrating. Reviewing supplier and customer account history also feels difficult. In other accounting programs, I am used to having clearly labeled 'Suppliers and 'Customers tabs where everything is grouped together and I haven't found it as simple to work with in that area.

powerful integrations and simple workflow

Pros

Xero is very easy to use and the platform integrates really well with other software tools and bank accounts. The integrations are detailed and useful which makes day to day accounting much more manageable.

Cons

One big downside is the complete lack of customer support. If something goes wrong, you're basically left to search online and work out the answer yourself. Bank feeds also duplicate transactions from time to time and fixing that means doing manual adjustments and entries so those feeds and integrations still need regular oversight. It also doesn't offer much flexibility for spreading annual costs or similar bills so those have to be journaled manually and the same issue applies to revenue.

quick learning curve and handy features

Pros

Getting started with it was quick and it didn't take much time to learn. I was able to move around the system with very little instruction and it includes most of the features I need in places that are easy to access.

Cons

The parts for editing or amending invoices were harder to locate than expected. I ended up having to search Google to figure out the right process.
