Very customizable

Pros

This software is incredibly comprehensive when it comes to data sources and everything runs with impressive fluidity. The level of display customization feels almost unlimited which makes it possible to build exactly the kind of reports and visuals needed. Even complex dashboards have become much simpler to read and analyze with it.

Cons

Setting everything up can sometimes get complicated especially when building a dashboard that has to handle multiple data sources at once.

Efficient analysis within microsoft stack

Pros

Being part of the Microsoft ecosystem is a big advantage especially if you already use other Microsoft tools. The pricing is also more affordable compared to many alternatives and the data analysis capabilities are very strong. On top of that the collaboration features are well set up and make it easier for teams to work together.

Cons

Using it often feels like the beginning of a deeper commitment to the Microsoft ecosystem. It also leans heavily on the cloud which may not suit every setup and the learning curve can be pretty steep at first.

a versatile software

Pros

It gives you a lot of flexibility when building dashboards and reports and managing user access levels works efficiently.

Cons

Compared with Looker, Power BI is kind of complicated to use and Looker offers stronger features and capabilities.

Dynamic dashboards

Pros

The part I liked most was how simple it was to connect different data sources and build dynamic dashboards.

Cons

It could improve the way DAX formulas are handled so the experience feels more user friendly.

powerful data connections

Pros

Power BI connects quickly to a variety of data sources and brings them together with visual tools that help create impressive dashboards. Sharing those dashboards with the team is simple and being able to embed them into other Office 365 products makes it even more useful.

Cons

Getting started can be a bit challenging although it becomes more manageable if you already know Power Query or Excel.

helpful integrations

Pros

Compared with Excel, the biggest advantage is being able to handle a large amount of data and present it in a very professional, visually appealing way. The integration with Microsoft 365, along with the ability to share work with colleagues, is also a major benefit.

Cons

Learning all of the features can take time and it's usually a good idea to take at least one course. That's true even if you already know Excel well since for smaller businesses Excel may still be enough.

Broad integration

Pros

One thing that really stands out is how many different data sources it can connect to, from Microsoft Excel and SQL Server to Oracle Database and IBM databases. That level of compatibility makes it useful in a wide range of situations. On top of that it lets you merge data from multiple supported sources which is a huge plus when your information is spread across different systems. Power BI also comes packed with a broad set of visualization options, including column charts, funnels, pie charts, donut charts, KPI visuals and more. Pretty much any type of data visualization you would want is already there. The interface is fairly user friendly too especially with the drag and drop features that make building reports more convenient. Another big advantage is that Power BI is available on both Android and iOS so you can check your data and make decisions even when you are away from your desk. I also appreciate the natural language query feature that lets you ask questions about your data in plain language. As expected, it fits very well into the Microsoft ecosystem so if your company already relies heavily on Microsoft products, adopting Power BI feels like a very natural transition.

Cons

That said, there is still a learning curve if you want to use Power BI effectively. To really get the most out of it, an organization usually needs someone who already knows the tool well.

Flexible data presentation

Pros

Creating dashboards and visualizations feels very easy. We can slice the data in multiple ways depending on the requests that come in which makes it really useful for answering different business needs.

Cons

The biggest challenge is learning all the DAX expressions. It often takes a lot of searching online to figure out which approach works best for our use case so having clearer guidance and a specific example for each DAX expression would be really helpful.

automated dashboards that save time

Pros

Having dashboards update automatically is a huge plus especially compared to rebuilding graphs manually every month. It cuts down on repetitive work and makes reporting much more efficient.

Cons

Moving over from Excel could be easier. It would help a lot if the function names stayed the same since that would make the transition feel more familiar and less frustrating.

versatile reporting

Pros

Has an interface that makes it simple to build many different kinds of reports. I also appreciate being able to switch between multiple data visualizations quickly, depending on how I want to look at the information. The option to choose specific data points within the same analysis is something I end up using quite a bit.

Cons

One frustrating part is not always knowing whether a feature is actually available under my corporate account. There have been times when I searched for instructions, tried to follow them and only later realized the feature wasn't included for me.

Great data connectivity

Pros

One of the biggest benefits for me has been the data connectivity especially the ability to integrate Power BI with my organization's databases.

Cons

The part I've struggled with most is the steep learning curve when trying to use it to its full potential. As a beginner, it's hard to build a well planned visualization right away and set up the correct relationship trees from the start.

Pros

This is a really powerful tool for working with data. It connects with a wide range of sources like Facebook, Google Analytics, SQL and even your own first party data which makes it very useful in one place.

Cons

Biggest downside is the complexity especially when it comes to the initial setup and configuration.

fun visuals

Pros

Taking time to go through a solid tutorial really matters if you want to understand everything Power BI can do. It's a very impressive platform that feels simple to use and is actually enjoyable to work with. One of the most valuable parts is how it analyzes your data and suggests insights, almost like having a statistician available at the click of a button. It makes it much easier to understand data and what it means in practice. It also helps managers and team members collaborate by building on visualizations others have already created and sharing their own observations. The free version does include some useful features but a premium license is needed to access the most insightful parts of the software.

Cons

Our organization only recently started using it and the biggest challenge so far has been getting people to move away from the tools they already know. That hesitation is more about user comfort with change than any problem with the application itself.

efficient data visualization

Pros

Biggest advantage for me was how broadly we can analyze data and turn it into useful information, in a way that feels much more complete than the more limited approach usually done in PowerPoint or Excel presentations.

Cons

A bit complex to work with since there is a lot of information on the screen and some of the tools feel unnecessary.

Pros

Power BI is a really strong tool for data visualization and the interface feels simple enough that it's not hard to understand how everything works.
