Client portal keeps projects moving

Pros

It helps me communicate job progress with subcontractors throughout a project. I can also use the client portal to keep owners informed, upload photos to show updates and manage variations and owner invoices in one place. Those features make day-to-day project communication feel much more organized and transparent.

Cons

Taxes are not available yet which is something I'd definitely like to see added. In my workflow, there are also no milestone schedule items although I can admit that may not be necessary for every job. Another improvement I'm still hoping for is the ability to see To-dos on the Gantt chart as floating points instead of just as an extra line.

Packed with helpful tools

Pros

I can keep up with everything from either my phone or my computer which makes the platform really convenient to use day to day. What stands out to me is the large number of tutorials available so whenever I need help, I can usually find guidance without much trouble. I also like that there are many different applications and features built in which gives me a lot of ways to use the software for my work.

Cons

At the same time, I feel like sometimes less would be better. From my perspective, there are so many icons and hidden functions that the system can feel a bit crowded. I would really appreciate it if the app were separated more clearly between the admin side and the construction side. That way, I could stay focused on the part I actually use and the crew on site would not have to sort through the administrative features that do not apply to them.

Helpful for the whole team

Pros

Buildertrend has been very user-friendly for everyone involved, whether I'm using it as the contractor, working with subcontractors or sharing updates with the buyer. I've found that it keeps things accessible for all sides which makes communication and day-to-day coordination much better.

Cons

I've noticed the subcontractor side still feels a bit limited in terms of features. I also think more reporting options would make the platform much more useful for tracking details and getting better project insights.

Contractor access and photo sharing

Pros

I've found it very user-friendly and it works well for our contractors because they can log in, view what they need and upload documents, photos and change updates without much trouble. It keeps everyone more connected and makes sharing project information a lot more convenient.

Cons

One issue I've run into is that when I download a large batch of photos into one file, it can take quite a while to load and sometimes it just times out. Because of that, I usually have to split the photos into several smaller files so they'll open faster which can be a bit frustrating.

Keeps improving

Pros

Our company has used it for several years and I'm still impressed by how they keep rolling out improvements month after month. We continue to be amazed by the ongoing updates and from my experience, Buildertrend stands out as the best app available for builders. It has consistently helped our team work better and I genuinely feel it keeps getting stronger over time.

Cons

Honestly I have a hard time coming up with anything negative about it because it has truly changed the way our business operates. If I had to point out one drawback, I'd say the mobile app can sometimes be a bit difficult for homeowners to use. Other than that, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive.

Owners portal keeps clients involved

Pros

There's a lot built into it and from what I've seen, it covers plenty of details that matter in day-to-day use. I especially like the owners portal because it helps clients feel included in the process instead of being left wondering what's going on. That feature really adds value and makes communication feel more connected.

Cons

What still holds it back for me is that I can't really make everyone use it consistently. In my experience subs, owners and vendors are not always tech-savvy enough to understand the benefits right away so adoption ends up being a challenge. Because of that, I've found that some of the value of the platform gets lost when not everyone is willing or able to engage with it.

Clients love the interface

Pros

What I like most about Buildertrend is the functionality it offers and how simple it feels for our staff to use day to day. The platform works well without requiring a lot of extra effort to learn which has made adoption much better across the team. I've also found that the client-facing interface is very good so customers can interact with updates and information in a way that feels clear and user-friendly.

Cons

It doesn't integrate with Xero as well as I'd like so that part could definitely be improved. GST handling also hasn't worked as well as it should which can make accounting tasks a bit more frustrating than expected.

Limited reporting tools

Pros

It handles a lot in one place, along with its really strong notification system. I found it helpful that there are plenty of ways for me to control how information gets delivered, shared and filtered depending on what I need to see. The all-in-one setup is honestly one of the best parts for me, both on the desktop version and in the app, because it keeps everything connected and accessible.

Cons

I can't give my subcontractors the same level of access or control that my internal team has. For instance, I would want my contractors to be able to submit a change order request the same way they can create an RFI and I'd also like them to make requested updates to the schedule when needed. On top of that, the reporting tools feel pretty limited and not especially useful for my needs. I really think more advanced reporting options are necessary especially for larger builders like us who are juggling multiple projects at the same time.

Reliable time tracking support

Pros

Its very user-friendly and quick to learn. Whenever I accidentally make a mistake or forget to clock in or out, I can usually get it corrected right away without any hassle. From my experience it's been a practical and dependable tool for managing that process.

Cons

The only downside I've noticed is that there can be a bit of a wait when clocking in at a jobsite although I understand that the system needs that time to pull in accurate information.

User-friendly setup and handy syncing

Pros

I've only used it once so far but my first experience has been really positive. From the start, I found it very simple to use and the layout felt user-friendly to me. What also stood out was how effortlessly it connects and syncs with other apps which makes the whole experience feel even more convenient.

Cons

At this point, I really haven't run into any issues yet. Since I'm still a new user, I'm in the process of learning my way around the system and understanding how everything works. That said when it comes to construction management, my experience so far has been very solid.

All client selections in one place

Pros

What I appreciate most about it is having all of my clients' options and selections stored in one place. I use Buildertrend regularly especially the job price summary, to go back through selections and confirm everything is being carried through correctly during the build. It also gives our clients a really helpful way to look through all of the custom options available to them. They can review everything on their own schedule and then we can sit down together in person to go over any questions they still have.

Cons

The system can occasionally take a bit longer than I'd like to load information.

Convenient owner access

Pros

I like that owners can log into the website and quickly check photos, schedules and meeting notes all in one place. Having that visibility available online makes communication better and helps everyone stay updated without needing constant follow-up.

Cons

What has been frustrating for me is the subcontractor list. It does not print in a format that works well for field staff which makes it less useful on the jobsite. I have also noticed that the system does not combine the owner's contact details with the subcontractor information so I end up having to look in multiple places for basic information.

Fantastic tools for builders

Pros

It helps me keep the business side of projects organized in one place. I use it for estimating, client communication, photo updates and invoicing and those core features have made a real difference in how I manage jobs. It keeps clients informed and helps me stay on top of the financial and project details without bouncing between multiple systems.

Cons

There are still a few things I'd love to see improved in Buildertrend. I'd like better support for bundling change orders into invoices and I think the email marketing tool could be stronger. In my workflow, follow-up reminders for estimates and leads would also be really helpful. I'd also appreciate free ACH transfers and it would be a big plus for me if a material and takeoff program were included directly as part of Buildertrend.

Made us more productive

Pros

it feels very simple to work in and it has made our day-to-day operations far more efficient and productive. We've been able to pull all of our spreadsheets into one centralized place which has saved me a lot of time and reduced the back-and-forth. Customer and trade partner information is now available with just a click and that convenience has made a real difference for our team. I've also been really impressed by the setup and support team so far. In my opinion, the Customer Care team genuinely seems invested in our success and that has made the whole experience even better.

Cons

I honestly can't say there's anything specific I dislike about it. From what I've seen so far, it has been delivering exactly what we hoped for and has met all of our expectations.

Flexible features and customization

Pros

I've found Buildertrend really easy to handle and it comes with a lot of features that make it work well for different kinds of projects. What I like most is how flexible it feels in day-to-day use and I've been able to customize it in ways that fit our workflow really well.

Cons

One thing that has been frustrating for me is the additional "owners" setup needed to create a separate architect login for a project. Since many of our projects are administered by architects, I feel like that part could be handled in a much better and more practical way.

Tracking billable hours perfectly

Pros

I no longer miss any of my workers' billable hours. Everything is captured exactly where it should be and I don't have to constantly think about keeping track of it myself.

Having stronger quoting features would make it even more helpful for my work.

Timesaving software

Pros

It supports the full process from start to finish especially with its use of IoT. I can keep all my project details, costs and customer communication together in one place which makes staying organized a lot easier for me and saves time during the day.

Cons

the time clock feature could be adjusted to fit our company's workflow better. For me it feels like it could use a bit more flexibility to match the way we actually operate.

Useful Xero integration

Pros

Lets me share information with both our internal team and our customers in a clear, user-friendly way. From my experience everything is presented in a format that feels simple and easy to follow which makes communication much better for everyone involved.

Cons

It doesn't support Australian GST which has been frustrating for our workflow. I also noticed that there aren't many accounting integrations available aside from Xero. That said after we switched over to Xero, I found the integration to be excellent and it has worked really well for us.

Everyone stays on the same page

Pros

It keeps my entire team, subcontractors, suppliers and homeowners aligned throughout the whole process. Having everything stored in one place makes a huge difference because I always know exactly where to go when I need information. It helps me stay organized, keeps communication clear and makes the day-to-day workflow feel much more connected for everyone involved.

Cons

The main issue I run into is that it sometimes logs me out in between sessions and since I'm in the system all day, every day, having to keep signing back in gets frustrating. It interrupts the flow of work and becomes annoying when I just need to jump back in quickly.

Organized hub for our projects

Pros

Buildertrend has made a huge difference for our company by keeping our estimating, files and communication together in one organized place. I honestly can't imagine how we would manage to keep everything straight without it. A few adjustments could still be made here and there but overall I've found it to be a really strong platform for our team.

Cons

I'd really like to see more flexibility on the estimating side especially when it comes to adding overhead markups. In my workflow, it would also help a lot if I could insert an additional cost code in the middle of an estimate instead of only being able to add it at the very end. Another thing that has frustrated me is invoicing because once an invoice has been released, I can't go back in and edit it. There have been several times when I created an invoice, noticed something needed to be changed and then had to delete the whole thing and start over with a new invoice.
