beautiful designs and flexible layouts

Pros

After comparing and testing most of the major website builders before moving away from WordPress, I realized many of them felt pretty similar on the surface. Once I actually tried them though, Squarespace clearly stood out for having the most visually attractive websites. That matters a lot for businesses where strong visuals are a big part of the marketing. The recent update that lets you overlap blocks and position them anywhere on the grid, no matter the page structure, has been a total game-changer for me and I absolutely love it.

Cons

My only real complaint is the way it handles multilingual websites. I ended up needing a third-party plugin which is not a deal breaker but it still feels odd that this was not built in from the start.

fresh designs and modern feel

Pros

After trying other website builders, they eventually started to feel outdated. Squarespace is beautiful, user friendly to work with and most importantly, fresh.

Cons

Customizing certain parts can be a little challenging at times.

fun builder with flexible designs

Pros

Managing content is easy, the site builder is user friendly, the designs can be customized in plenty of ways and the whole platform is genuinely enjoyable to work with.

Cons

The only downside was that documentation for certain features took a bit of digging to find.

It really couldn't be simpler to use. Pretty much anyone can put together a website with this.

At times the functionality feels a bit limited compared with WordPress.

building a site in no time

Pros

After trying WordPress, GoDaddy and Shopify, Squarespace was the one that finally clicked for me. It's very user friendly and I was able to bring my ideas to life almost right away. Really thankful for that!

Cons

Since I sold my computer, I do wish the mobile app offered all the same features as the full website. Still, I understand that kind of development takes time.

analytics and seo that deliver

Pros

One of the best parts of Squarespace is the analytics dashboard. It lets you see how many visits your website gets each month which devices people are using to view it and plenty of other helpful details. The SEO features also do a good job of helping your site get more clicks from Google. Setting everything up is very easy because the instructions are clear and simple to follow. You can invite multiple contributors to the site as well which helps a lot when collaborating with teammates. Overall it's a really good service for creating a professional looking website without spending too much and the building process is self-explanatory and quick to learn.

Cons

My biggest frustration with it is the lack of an undo button. If you make several changes and then mess something up by accident, there's no real way to reverse it not even Ctrl+Z works. It's also pretty common to forget to hit save so automatic saving would be a big improvement. Another limitation is that only one contributor can actively work on the website at a time which can sometimes create issues for teams.

versatile design and store features

Pros

Compared with Weebly and Shopify, Squarespace feels much more versatile. Shopify isn't something I'd pick for a simple landing page or basic contact form and Weebly wouldn't be my top option for running an online store. Squarespace does a really nice job of covering both sides, with user friendly tools, strong design flexibility, a fairly affordable price and the ability to work well for either type of project.

Cons

One thing that bothered me was having to pay just to send a second email marketing campaign or once you pass a certain number of emails sent. That feels like a feature that should stay free up to a reasonable subscriber limit, maybe around 1,000 to 5,000 contacts. With the current setup, the free email option doesn't really leave much room to make money from email marketing. If email marketing is a major priority for your online store, Shopify might be the better fit.

professional site without coding

Pros

Building a professional looking website with this is possible even without knowing all the ins and outs of coding. It saves me a lot of time and the customer support team has been really helpful whenever needed.

Cons

It's still being developed so they're continuing to roll out new features.

beautiful templates and polished blogs

Pros

Among competing website builders, this one has the nicest templates I have come across. It makes it possible to build a really beautiful blog and even with just basic knowledge, most people can use it without much trouble. The interface feels user friendly and there's also an active forum whenever questions come up or support is needed.

Cons

One downside is that there's no free plan and it does cost a bit more than some other platforms offering similar products.

custom layouts with a learning curve

Pros

There's a wide selection of website templates and the platform gives you plenty of ways to personalize your site. That flexibility was a plus although it also started to feel a bit overwhelming at times. With so much information packed in, things can get confusing when the steps aren't clearly explained.

Cons

navigating through each section is not easy from the start. The interface comes across as jumbled and not very user friendly and getting everything set up takes far too long. Even uploading individual items feels tedious and oddly cryptic. The tutorial videos didn't help much either and I ended up needing to hire an expert just to get through it.

user friendly website builder

Pros

One of the biggest benefits for us has been how user friendly it is. Since we don't have any website designers on staff, we were concerned that building and updating our site would be difficult. Instead Squarespace has been very simple to navigate. You really don't need to know any code to create or manage your website.

Cons

there really isn't anything we dislike about the software. We have not run into any problems with it at all.

fantastic templates and analytics

Pros

Building a website is fast with Squarespace and there are plenty of templates to choose from. The mobile and desktop preview pages are professional and helpful and the analytics make it simple to monitor website traffic.

Cons

My only real complaint is that you need to move up to a higher subscription tier if you want to use embed codes for external links.

design tools good, support frustrating

Pros

Building a site design is easy and the live preview works well Overall even though it can be a little buggy at times.

Cons

The PayPal integration won't connect and dealing with Support has been the worst part. The chatbot keeps repeating the same question and the reply from the representative didn't work at all as it felt like nothing more than a copied-and-pasted response.

Stand out tool

Pros

Squarespace comes with a broad range of beautifully crafted templates across many styles and industries which helps grab a visitor's attention right away and gives your website a strong first impression. Another big plus is that the templates are already responsive so they adjust well to tablets and mobile phones without needing separate versions for smart devices. It also includes a 14 day trial which gives you enough time to decide whether it's the right fit before paying for it.

Cons

One possible downside is that it doesn't include a manual editor specifically for mobile devices.

Way too limited templates

Pros

Building a responsive website with Squarespace is quick and easy, even as a web designer. I often rely on website builders like this to speed up the whole process.

Cons

The template selection is smaller than what other competitors offer and some templates come with very little built-in content. Because of that, I end up doing extra manual work again to get the website properly set up.

business essential for my site

Pros

Running my online business has been much more manageable with Squarespace as my website builder. It holds my personal story and branding, showcases my services, includes an inquiry form connected to my business email and keeps all of my podcast show notes organized through the blog feature. As someone who isn't very tech-savvy, I have still been able to use it comfortably because there are plenty of templates to start from and the directory tabs help walk you through each part of the site. I also connect Acuity Scheduling with Squarespace which lets potential clients book sales consultations or collaboration calls during my available hours. It has truly been an essential part of my business from the very beginning.

Cons

One thing I wish the website templates offered is the ability to manually drag borders and sections to make them larger or smaller with the mouse. I have wanted that same kind of control for uploaded images too since sometimes a photo appears larger than I'd prefer.
