client-friendly website editing

Pros

Squarespace has really done a fantastic job making the platform simple to learn. I can build a Squarespace site and then hand it off to my clients without much trouble. After showing them how to update text, they're able to handle certain changes on their own and they really appreciate having that kind of control.

Cons

A few of the newer restrictions in version 7.1 are frustrating and I still prefer some of the features that were available in 7.0.

versatile site builder with polished extras

Pros

Building a site with Squarespace feels very flexible thanks to the drag and drop editor and it makes it simple to put together something that fits exactly what you need. There are plenty of ways to personalize the look, from template styling to the color palette so the final site doesn't feel generic. It works well for all kinds of projects too, whether it's a blog, an online portfolio or something else entirely. Another big plus is having email, hosting and domain services included which makes it convenient to manage everything in one place and gives the website a more professional setup.

Cons

The editor can be a little inconsistent at times because the drag and drop experience doesn't always feel as user friendly as expected. Depending on what feature you're trying to add, it isn't always available to preview directly from the editor page. It's also frustrating to keep clicking back out just to access different menus.

clean website setup

Pros

Setting up a website is easy with Squarespace, even without any coding or web design background.

Cons

One downside is that websites built on it can end up looking a lot like other companies' sites.

website builder for small businesses

Pros

Building a website for my small business has been much more manageable with Squarespace. If you don't have any background in web design or site building, this platform really feels like a game changer.

Cons

One downside is that some features come at an extra cost.

friendly setup with strong customer tools

Pros

This was surprisingly easy to use, even with absolutely no background in web design or IT. Also there are plenty of guides that help us through the setup process. It even offers a lot of modern-looking templates that work well for many traditional or standard business types. The customer management tools are excellent especially if you already use a Square POS system in your store. I also really liked being able to run analytics on individual customers and use that information across Square platforms. If your ecommerce needs are fairly basic, this is a really great option.

Cons

Customization is one area that still needs quite a bit of work. You can personalize the site to a certain point but it mostly depends on already having all of your images, content and design elements prepared and ready to upload. That can feel pretty overwhelming if you have never handled anything like that before and when I attempted it, it did not turn out well. On top of that none of the available themes really felt like a good fit for our business or for the way we wanted to build ecommerce into what we do.

Pros

With how busy my schedule is, being able to put together a webpage quickly and without much hassle makes a huge difference and the results can really make an impact.

Cons

It would be better if the pricing were a bit lower though it still feels like great value overall.

modern designs and flexible updates

Pros

The modern templates look good and are simple to customize which makes building a professional site much easier. The backend is user friendly as well so clients can handle their own updates and day to day site management without much trouble.

Cons

At this point our agency doesn't feel that anything important is missing. Since we don't build many e-commerce websites, that would probably be the area we'd pay the most attention to in the future.

Pros

It's fast and simple enough that people at any skill level, even with no experience at all, can manage the software without much trouble.

Cons

At times I wish it would provide a printed receipt automatically instead of always asking or defaulting to an email receipt.

Best among rest

Pros

Among website design platforms, this is one of the best available. It's simple to work with, packed with strong functionality and suits both experienced users and complete beginners. I'd definitely recommend it for just about any kind of web design work.

Cons

The only downside is the recurring monthly fee so it's worth keeping that ongoing cost in mind.

stylish templates build confidence

Pros

Thanks to its excellent design, Squarespace helps individuals and businesses create their own websites especially if they're just getting started. The range of ready-made templates encourages creativity and makes it easier to organize the ideas and topics you want to present on your site. Its flexible framework gives users the confidence to manage their website and stay in control of the available tools and settings. Building a website with Squarespace feels very approachable. I had no previous experience, yet I was still able to put together a professional looking and visually appealing online portfolio. The more time I spend using the platform, the more confident I feel about taking on a more advanced portfolio design. It gives me the sense that I am fully in control of my site, even when I am still learning.

Cons

There were a few problems when setting certain web tags, formatting photos and organizing pages overall but we were able to sort them out with help from the support team. Aside from a few misunderstandings here and there, there really have not been many negative issues to deal with.

flexible editing for the whole office

Pros

After getting everything set up, anyone in the office can jump in to edit pages and add content. Before switching, we handled the site with a text editor and FTP so only one person could make updates and the whole process took forever. It's very simple to use.

Cons

Every now and then, we want to arrange a page in a certain way or add a specific kind of content and either we cannot figure out how to make it work or the platform just doesn't support it.

Pros

Switching over to Squarespace has been a game-changer for me. Designing, editing and customizing everything feels really simple and the themes available are absolutely stunning.

Cons

Some of the design controls especially when it comes to changing colors, are not as user friendly as I expected them to be.

flexible editor with creative control

Pros

The drag and drop website editor is something I really enjoy using. It makes building and adjusting pages feel user friendly.

Cons

One thing I really wish it had is the ability to duplicate sections while building a site. If I want to use the same image layout in multiple places, I end up repeating almost the whole process each time instead of simply copying the section I want to reuse.

designer-friendly portfolio platform

Pros

Building my site with Squarespace has genuinely played a huge role in my career. It helped me create the portfolio that got me my first full-time graphic design position and it's still the platform I rely on to present my work and attract freelance clients. The mix of simplicity and flexibility gives me, as a designer, the freedom to make a site that reflects both me and my small design business in the strongest way possible.

Cons

That said I have had to depend a lot on custom CSS to make my site look exactly how I want. That would be less of an issue if the CSS editing experience were better. The code window is tiny and working through roughly 400 lines of code is frustrating and hard to manage. On top of that Squarespace loads a lot of unused JavaScript by default that I have no way to remove. This hurts my site's load speed, creates a worse experience for visitors and can negatively affect SEO as well. It also causes serious slowdowns on my computer when I am using Safari which is why I ended up moving back to Chrome. Even with those drawbacks, if you're not planning to add code, aren't too worried about SEO and don't use Safari on desktop, I still have to give this one credit for delivering an overall brilliant experience.

Squarespace works really well for a simple website especially if you're building something photography-focused or any site that relies heavily on visuals.

handy card payments tool

Pros

A really useful tool that makes getting paid by card much more convenient in today's cashless world.

I don't have anything bad to say about it. I eventually switched to PayPal but I wasn't using this enough to take full advantage of everything it offered.
