“Able to be modified”

With over two years of experience using Athena as the EMR its adaptability through easily modifiable templates to meet the diverse documentation needs of our staff stands out.
Cons
The software's complex navigation can present challenges due to the diverse array of options available.

“Modern and less expensive”
Pros
It is a modern system that's significantly more efficient and easier to use than most EMRs. Because it doesn't require on-site hosting, it ends up being far less expensive and logistically simpler for practices to manage.
Cons
Even though I think it's an improvement I am well aware that all EMR platforms come with issues and a fair bit of clunkiness. athenaOne reduces many headaches but doesn't eliminate them entirely. I have run into a variety of odd technical quirks that can be pretty aggravating.

“good for cross-department tasks”
Pros
I like being able to assign tasks across multiple departments in the system.
Cons
Lately I have noticed that sometimes duplicate tasks get created on the same invoice which leads to inflated AR.

“extremely easy claims dashboard”
Pros
The claims dashboard is extremely easy to use as it brings every piece of information together in one central, convenient place.
Cons
Because the system is tied into so many other services I often get confused about who to contact as the provider or Aetna as and that uncertainty is frustrating. Still whenever I do reach out to Aetna with a question I generally find their interface easy to use and helpful.

“Quite user-friendly and regularly refined”
Pros
Overall I find the platform quite user-friendly and it seems Athenahealth is regularly making efforts to refine and organize the software.
Cons
One of the frustrations I have relates to faxing and some of the search features. For example, when I fax records to other Athenahealth providers from inside the system, there are no page breaks inserted between encounters which makes it difficult to sort a patient's chart and to correctly label each document. Honestly I think our team could benefit from more comprehensive training so we could take full advantage of the program's capabilities. Right now we probably aren't using all the available tools to make our workflow more efficient because we simply don't know how.

“Terrible customer service”
Pros
The EMR is fine as it's pretty much the same as the others I have used.
Cons
Customer service was terrible. I was grossly misled when I was sold the product, AthenaOne and after three years when I decided to leave I found I couldn't export patient data to a new EMR. For the past six weeks I have been attempting to get my patients' records copied as at minimum onto a Zip drive as but they seem indifferent now that I am leaving.

“Nothing to appreciate, awful service”
Pros
Honestly there's almost nothing I appreciate about them. I really cannot name a single thing I do.
Cons
As per me their customer service is awful - it often takes weeks for anyone to act for us. It's ridiculously expensive and mostly gives me headaches. It takes months to get staff trained. I have used multiple other EHR platforms and none approach this one's pricing. They assigned a rep to assist but ours was completely useless. A typical answer to our problems was, please call customer service which meant weeks would pass before anything progressed. Sometimes she'd tell us, I have spoken with my team and we cannot fix that for you. Getting anything resolved is a real chore. My team loathes working with them. They also require you to open a separate bank account with US Bank. If you're accustomed to Bank of America like we are, US Bank is terrible.
