“A true partnership for success”
Pros
I really like that Athena has a "skin in the game" model, meaning their pay is tied to their performance. The start-up costs were almost nothing and the support in the first year and beyond has been great. Their employees really engage with us to help our practice succeed and grow.
Cons
We've had to hire outside companies for some services that we feel it should be able to handle. That extra cost isn't ideal.

“An interactive all-in-one solution”
Pros
It's ineractive and easy to use. I like that all the features are in one product.
Cons
I dont like the format of the medical history section. Also the answers from patient self-check-in don't always match up properly with the history.

“Athena is a lifesaver!!”
Pros
Two years ago I had my first encounter with Athena Health when I visited my Primary Care doctor. The instructions for accessing my results were provided through their portal and I was eagerly awaiting them. To my delight I logged in and promptly found my results available. What made it truly convenient was that my doctor had included notes next to each result indicating if they were elevated or outside the normal range. I didn't have to wait for a phone call; I had immediate feedback right in the portal. I am grateful to Athena for making the entire process so effortless and seamless.
Cons
I have no complaints about Athena! It's extremely convenient.

“Bait and Switch”
Pros
The initial setup of the EMR was straightforward and the billing functionality was satisfactory at first.
Cons
Any requests for improvement are consistently ignored. For instance we were promised an Android app from the beginning but even after 13 years it remains an unfulfilled promise. They simply tell us to "put it on the suggestion board." However my reason for writing this review today is the sudden and significant price increase. Despite being assured that the price (a percentage of gross collections) would decrease over time they have once again raised the percentage they take. They attribute this to "inflation" but it's clear that they are simply taking a larger portion of the revenue without our consent and without engaging in contract negotiations. It's completely dishonest and we are left with no choice in the matter.

“pricing jump and ignored requests”
Pros
The EMR was relatively simple to get going at the start and the billing features were decent when we first rolled them out.
Cons
Any suggestions or improvement requests get brushed off completely. We were repeatedly told an Android app was coming soon and here we are over a decade later with the same answer-just "drop it on the suggestion board." The bigger reason I'm writing this now is the sudden, massive pricing increase. We were told the percentage they take from GROSS collections would decrease over time but instead they've increased it again. They're attributing the change to "inflation," but since their fee is based on a percentage of collections, inflation wouldn't selectively raise only their withholding-so it feels like they're simply taking a larger slice. It's also being implemented without any real contract negotiation and effectively against our will which makes the whole situation feel dishonest.

“Its great”
Pros
athena regularly requests client feedback (and does it in a few different ways), then follows through by acting on those suggestions. that feedback loop helps the product evolve into something more useful for the people who actually use it.
Cons
customer support chat/csc interactions can be frustrating. the support doesn't feel tailored to how advanced the user is so we usually end up reaching out only after trying multiple fixes on our side. the csc support starts with very basic responses and then adds extra time before escalating the problem to more capable teams.

“reliable cross-organization consistency”
Pros
Having one consistent platform experience across different organizations has been a big win for us. It makes collaboration and rollout feel simple since everyone's working from the same baseline.
Cons
The referral workflow is a bit messy because internal referrals get treated like external ones. Also, it would be better if future orders were configurable since that's not currently something we can control.

“Great all around”
Pros
Athena actively seeks and acts upon client feedback in various ways resulting in a more usercentric product development process.
Cons
Interactions with Customer Support CSC lack userspecific tailoring. We often resort to contacting support as a last option after trying various methods to resolve issues. CSC initiates with basic responses and takes additional time to escalate problems to a higher support tier.
