“Customer support”
Pros
The reason I opted for Athena is mainly for its customer support and the size of its network. Athena is a great system and easily adaptable. Its functions also help us reduce the need for extra employees.
Cons
Its template building is a bit difficult and takes time. Athenahealth is an expensive system but it provides a lot of features and functionality.

“Outstanding for note-taking and care”
Pros
As a clinical provider I consider this an outstanding EMR system that really shines for note-taking and managing patient carehandling orders, point-of-care interactions, radiology results, lab work, blood tests, immunization schedules and all necessary documentation.
Cons
There's not much I dislike about it but I do wish accessing lab results from the point-of-care interface was simpler and more direct for quicker use during patient visits.

“Smooth patient check-in and billing”
Pros
Moving to a new EMR required an adjustment for our office but after guidance from instructional videos, our team became comfortable. Now, six months after leaving our old software, we feel this change has been successful. Whenever issues popped up, we valued being able to call the helpline or post on message boards to walk through problems with a real person. Nobody enjoys IT headaches, yet Athena's support line consistently felt sincere and made frustrating moments manageable. Those calls weren't frequent but when necessary, the experience was surprisingly positive. In daily practice, Athena has smoothed patient check-in, helping reduce door-to-doctor time. Our clinicians appreciate pulling up a patient's full history and prior imaging quickly, arriving at appointments with a clear picture in minutes. We've also been thankful for Athena's billing features. while it doesn't handle every nuance, it has simplified much of the workflow. Now, six months in, we still recommend Athena to colleagues because it consistently supports our workflows and the initial training made the learning curve manageable. Overall the transition has gone very well for our sixteen-person neurology clinic.
Cons
It's been an expensive switch for us and even though after six months of using Athena it seems to justify the cost, we plan to keep checking in with our staff to see how opinions evolve. We've noticed occasional moments when the system feels sluggish and lags which can be frustrating during busy clinic hours. The platform pushes updates fairly oftenaslikely improvementsasbut those frequent changes can sometimes complicate things while we're still getting used to the new workflows.

Pros
The software's integration of EMR and PM under a single login is highly convenient offering a comprehensive and wellequipped solution complete with valuable reporting tools.

A compelling aspect of Athena is its single login for a fully integrated solution encompassing EMR and PM functionalities. The inclusion of robust reporting tools is also beneficial.

“Athena helps me daily”
Pros
In the realm of EMR systems Athena stands out for several reasons. It allows for swift and straightforward template modifications for patient encounters. Collaborating with the billing department to adjust CPT and ICD10 codes ensures compliance with everevolving insurance rules. The utilization of macros and the ability to structure routine instructions and messages efficiently are also highly valuable.
Cons
It's not specific to Athena but a global issue. Managing a vast catalog of labs and imaging studies each with its unique names and codes can be challenging for continuous charting. A unified catalog for labs is desired.

“EHR for Doctors Office”
Pros
The implementation process was straightforward with Athena providing valuable assistance in creating forms and templates. Setting up and modifying templates is a userfriendly process. The checkin to checkout workflow is thoughtfully organized for seamless patient treatment. Athena's handling of MIPS MACRA and Medicare data streamlines processes significantly reducing the staff's workload. Furthermore direct fax integration enhances efficiency and the system offers comprehensive reporting options.
Cons
There are hardly any aspects of the software that I dislike but it would be beneficial to have a feature for tracking letters sent to patients. This would enable the automated recording of sent letters eliminating the need for manual notations.

“Bells and whistles”
Pros
Athena's software is equipped with numerous features and continues to improve over time. The provision of free interfaces simplifies tasks for users. Athena demonstrates attentiveness to user feedback when enhancing the software to meet MIPS requirements. The implementation may be extensive but the support provided throughout each step is appreciated. Regular meetings with an account manager to address issues and financial matters contribute to a positive experience. Athena's forwardthinking approach is commendable and the Athena Marketplace offers useful addon features.
Cons
The tickler system for followup visits is susceptible to user errors and requires continuous review. Most recall appointment tools face challenges due to patient behavior. Task assignment overrides TAOs can be initially confusing and require filtering enhancements. It's essential to ascertain patient communication preferences early on to avoid overcommunication. Call campaigns may sometimes convey contradictory messages.

The partnership with Athena is seen as a true profitaligned collaboration and its cloudbased nature ensures it won't become obsolete.
