“TERRIBLE revenue cycle management”
Pros
Everything except for RCM is straightforward in this software.
Cons
Numerous issues are associated with RCM. I find myself performing the majority of the work while payments or correspondence take an extended 2 to 3 months for posting. Despite them taking a percentage of our revenue the situation is deemed unfair with pandemicrelated excuses not aligning with the timing of the issue.

“Tread Carefully and do not believe the sales rep”
Pros
The EMR offers good templates and the patient portal is fairly effective. However the implementation process was challenging due to the involvement of individuals with limited knowledge from other countries. I had to request assistance from someone else because my golive date was approaching and the initial contact couldn't address my inquiries.
Cons
The RCM and billing service is strongly discouraged due to the extent of dissatisfaction it generates.

“easy to use”
Pros
The software is designed for user friendliness speed and secure transactions. Remarkably no patients have expressed dissatisfaction with their billing statements through AthenaOne. These statements are conveniently accessed through links sent via SMS and email granting patients the flexibility to choose their preferred method for viewing their medical bills.
Cons
A suggested improvement involves allowing immediate patient review of settled bills while administrative staff retains access for seamless patient assistance.

“Unprofessional outputs and lost faxes”
Pros
athenaOne is only a little better than writing everything down by hand. In short there really is not much benefit.
Cons
Sometimes it feels like the whole interface was created by someone who has never worked as a specialist or dealt with patients directly. Plus I have tried to give feedback but the company does not act on it. Instead they make you submit ideas and let people vote on them which is absurd as the folks who have time to vote are often the ones least impacted by the real issues. My dictation software also gets disrupted now and then by glitches in their system which ruins my ability to document clinical encounters well. For me the order-entry screens are a headache and slower than handwriting so I still keep paper order sets in my office and default to those rather than using the interface. There are simple, trivial fixes that would solve many of these problems yet it does not feel like they're willing to make the physician experience better. If I decide to leave this practice when my contract ends, athena will be a major reason. The notes and outputs it generates look unprofessional and cannot be customized so the material we send back to referring doctors appears poorly formatted and there is nothing we can do about it. It also eliminates the ability to use a regular fax machine as everything that comes in is swallowed by the system and that has led to important information getting lost or buried. It's probably retrievable somewhere in the platform but after a year my staff still has no clear idea how to find or collate those incoming documents.
