Much better suited to individual practices

Pros

Athenahealth EHR is competitively priced and offers a decent range of features suitable for individual provider practices. Its integrated billing components developed as the software's initial focus are reliable.

Cons

The user interface and UI concepts in Athena appear outdated. Administrative interfaces also add extra work for organizations with multiple providers locations and specialties.

As part of the admin team the reporting feature is top notch.

Pros

I don't use this software from a clinical perspective but the layout is visually appealing. It includes an instant messaging feature for quick communication. Setting up and building reports from scratch is incredibly easy with the ability to export them to Excel or Tableau for further analysis. While prebuilt reports are available the software also provides a step-by-step report building feature. Athena generally does a good job defining fields although some trial and error may be required.

Cons

Although the software offers user-friendly reporting features there are instances where the data generated does not align logically. Reports may display 1 no-show with 0 booked slots and different report categories may include or exclude specific data creating inconsistencies.

Clinical staff in an outpatient office

Pros

This system is very user-friendly allowing you to multitask and view multiple sections of a patient's chart simultaneously.

Cons

Chart navigation can be challenging due to the overwhelming amount of information displayed on a single page.

It enables comfortable use of SOAP note formats and easy editing of notes as needed. Templates and medical terminology can also be utilized.

Physician who uses it at the hospital.

Pros

The intuitive interface saves time when inputting patient information. Communication with other departments is straightforward and the reports are useful.

Cons

The color scheme and background of Athena can be visually depressing. Adjusting font sizes for better readability especially for older users is difficult.

Time consuming

Pros

Entering data is easy with organized categories for problems medications medical history etc. Additionally there are multiple ways to search for patients.

Cons

There is a need to switch between multiple pages in Athena. For scheduling appointments you have to exit the chart and access the quick view. Similarly making a label requires leaving the chart. Additionally the available options for conditions surgeries and orders are limited.

All in One cloud based program.

Pros

Everything is on the cloud; login access to data storage. Reliable disaster recovery module in place. Price per user is reasonable with zero or limited add on fees. System updates and upgrades are included in your package.

Cons

Schedule module is a little tedious and troublesome to use. Especially for the lab and medical imaging departments. Only two options with built-in interfaces for PACs.

Secure. Secure Secure

Pros

It's clear that I'm a fan! It's secure and perfect for billing clients. The secure text messaging is excellent and it works seamlessly with my Apple Watch.

Cons

The price point may be higher compared to competitors but the extensive range of features justifies the cost.

Good but product but not the best

Pros

Finding different parts is easy to do and the updates have been well-executed. Overall a good experience.

Cons

The scheduling component lacks user-friendliness and the charging structure based on a percentage is confusing and problematic.

Mediocre

Pros

Navigating within the system is relatively easy and recent upgrades have improved functionality such as the ability to access the last patient's charts opened.

Cons

Lately the changes in the customer support structure have made it somewhat frustrating to reach a "live person." The level of knowledge and helpfulness of the support staff can vary greatly. While some representatives are excellent and provide valuable assistance others may struggle to address issues. Although it's beneficial to connect with a live person the process is not as straightforward as it used to be.

Athena is easy to use

Pros

I like how user-friendly it is and it offers many shortcuts for scheduling labs and more.

Cons

I find it inconvenient that lab orders cannot be grouped for printing requiring them to be printed one by one which is time-consuming.

Good Software

Pros

The system allows you to do everything you need. Customer service is generally good and the ticketing system is effective.

Cons

The software's pricing structure based on a percentage makes it difficult for small billing businesses to adopt. They require revenue information before providing a quote.

Nice EHR

Pros

The ability to fax orders directly through the app saves a lot of time. Additionally being able to chat with co-workers through Athena is like sending a text message.

Cons

When Athena experiences downtime we have to resort to paper charts which consumes a significant amount of time that could be utilized for other tasks.

Clincal is great Collector...not so much

Pros

The clinical side is fantastic with easy navigation and the ability to modify and create order sets. Access to other physician order sets as examples is also beneficial. Reporting is efficient.

Cons

The billing team in the Collector module lacks knowledge and understanding of coding basics. The customer service for payor enrollment is also subpar as it is outsourced to another country.

Promises broken.

Pros

Checking insurance eligibility and receiving immediate feedback to correct claims before submission is valuable. The billing software is excellent although you may lose some control over claims since Athena handles payments made to a controlled bank account.

Cons

Creating patient notes can be a challenging task due to the lack of customizable templates and the limited options available in the pre-installed templates. The billing team's responsiveness to issues is also lacking and the support provided is often slow. We have been facing unresolved issues since January which is quite frustrating. Additionally the software has certain limitations such as the inability to directly message patients or fax most documents. Chart export to a fax number is only possible if there is a pre-existing contact in the software and permission needs to be obtained through a form.

Worked in offices over the last couple years with this software

Pros

I like its attractive appearance. Switching between different offices and doctors is easy. Adding diagnostic pictures to monitor wounds and other conditions is a straightforward process.

Cons

While having templates is advantageous entering information into each template field requires manual mouse movements and clicks. Other software programs offer shortcuts like "F3" to navigate to specific fields saving time. Room assignments work well but can be time-consuming.
