“Definitely 5 stars from me”
Pros
Honestly It is hands down the best I've ever used. I've been working in Medical Administration for over 30 years and this is by far my favorite. What I love the most is that when a patient sends a message, I can add who they want to speak with and it keeps a full trail of everyone they've spoken to and whether or not they were taken care of.
Cons
At first I had a hard time learning Athena. I'd say this was more about the training, though. Once the right training is in place, it becomes a lot more efficient.

It was super easy to learn and use. Everything I need for scheduling, medical records and billing is all in one system. plus their customer support is amazing.
Cons
Some of the updates don't always seem to make sense for everyone, so it can be frustrating at times.

Pros
Athena is the best platform for community health resources in my city. It's been a great tool for smooth communication with my providers.
Cons
Athena really seems to dominate the community health field here in my area. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing but it's definitely the most popular software around the Pacific Northwest.

“Highly effective medical software”
Pros
I seriously couldn't do what I do without Athena. My company started about five years ago with zero patients. Now we have over 8600 patients! As a solo practitioner with a team of 20, we're able to take care of our community and it's all because of the support It gives us.
Cons
I don't have major issues with Athena but my practice is pretty extensive with a lot of billing items like EKGs, ABI tests, and diabetic retinal exams. Sometimes my billing department gets bogged down because the answers from Athena's support team aren't always as detailed as we need. I think it's because we require a bit more than the average practice though. My practice manager could explain this better.

I absolutely love Athena! They really dig deep into claims and have a great customer success team that helps solve any questions I have. My client success manager is wonderful and they're always coming up with innovative solutions and tools.
Cons
I can't think of any real issues. The only downside is the process of transferring data from one system to another. But that's pretty much standard with any EMR system. When our clinic launched, the data transfer process was time-consuming but Athena made it as easy as possible and I'm thankful we did it early on because I only had a year's worth of data to move.

Honestly I just like the name "Athena." It sounds strong. Also, the purple color theme throughout the interface is actually really nice and pleasing to look at for hours on end.
Cons
It goes down way too often and at the worst times like Monday afternoons. And when it does, their customer support is so slow it's basically useless.

“The better our practice gets, the more it costs us”
Pros
When we first signed up, it was less expensive than a lot of the other options we looked at. On top of that, it came with some really good features that made it a great value for our practice.
Cons
They keep increasing their costs based on my gross revenue. It feels like in medicine, the harder you work, the more everyone else takes a cut and you can't just raise your rates to match. They even charge primary care a higher percentage than specialists, which just feels like the rich getting richer. They do listen to suggestions sometimes but it's ridiculous that there's no "out of office" reply for patient messages or a way to send them to another provider. And they refuse to fix that.

For us as internal employees, the software is very efficient, fast and has a sleek feel. A huge plus is that it allows for a good amount of customization which you don't see often. We use it for most of our reports, letters and formatted templates.
Cons
Their recent updates to make things more efficient kind of backfired. Now it's a real pain to navigate through individual patient charts.
