Pros
This program is seriously so easy to use. I found my way around it right from the start, everything is so intuitive and user-friendly that I felt comfortable with it almost immediately.
Cons
Sometimes I get loading errors and it just freezes or pauses on me. I usually have to restart it to get it working again.

“great tech but slow support”
Pros
I've been really impressed with all the improvements and advances Athena has made over the years.
Cons
Getting through to customer service was incredibly difficult. We tried multiple channels and faced long wait times, making it a frustrating experience when we needed timely support.

“Deceptive business and poor service”
Pros
I like that it is an online EMR with a wide array of features and a built-in online fax system but that's about it.
Cons
My experience with their business practices left a lot to be desired for more. I signed a contract that took a percentage of my collections and after two years they unexpectedly increased my rates even though our agreement said they wouldn't. They then tried to pressure me into signing a new contract. On top of that their customer service is just poor as account managers change constantly so there is no continuity. Their so-called enhanced billing is misleading because I am still doing most of the backend and front-end billing work myself. Switching away from it is made very difficult, feeling like they hold you hostage. So I would definitely not recommend this to colleagues.

“Integration is no more a problem for us”
Pros
Many of our clients currently utilize this system. Since our lab can integrate with their existing patient system, our clients don't have to worry about learning a whole new system or transferring anything.
Cons

“Smooth and efficient in my perspective”
Pros
As a CCMA, I access the EMR before, during and after each visit. I perform tasks like prior authorizations, RX refills, procedure documentation, clinic check-in, injections documentation and much more through Athena. I find it easy to maneuver, document, update and communicate using Athena systems. The training provided by Athena representatives was sufficient, and I enjoy the smooth flow of working in the system.
Cons
In rare cases, I couldn't find the specific code or medication I was looking for in the system. While the database is extensive, there are occasional instances where I need to improvise.

A lot of our clients are already using this system. Since our lab can integrate with their current patient system, our clients don't have to stress about learning something completely new or transferring all their data.

“My all-in-one clinical hub”
Pros
As a CCMA, I'm in the EMR all the time, before, during and after each visit. I do everything in Athena, from prior authorizations and refilling prescriptions to documenting procedures and checking patients in. I find it easy to move around, document info, update records and communicate. The training from the Athena reps was really helpful and now I enjoy how everything in the system just flows smoothly.
Cons
Every once in a while, it doesn't have the exact code or medication I'm looking for. The database is huge but on those rare occasions, I have to improvise a bit.

I found the billing process in athenahealth to be fairly simple, both in terms of daily use and training new team members. The system simplifies otherwise complex billing tasks, making it manageable for different skill levels. While navigation is generally smooth, I feel that the addition of more shortcuts or quicker access to frequently used tools could further enhance the user experience, speeding up administrative work.
Cons
With athenaOne, you not only pay for the program but also for athena employees to handle your claims. However, I've found that they sometimes lack the skills and knowledge to effectively manage the accounts receivable (AR).
