“Physician who uses it at the hospital.”
Pros
It is intuitive, saving time with patient information input. Communication with other departments is easy, and the reports are good.
Cons
The color and background make it somewhat depressing to work on. Its hard to change font sizes for older peoples eyes.

“Initial use in medical practice trnsition”
Pros
Able to use SOAP note formats comfortably and edit notes as needed. It is also possible to use templates and medical terminology.
Cons
Learning to segment orders from thought, workflow. Sometimes going back is not as simple as it was when flipping a page.

“As part of the admin team, the reporting feature is top notch.”
Pros
I do not use this software from a clinical perspective, but the layout is visually appealing, and it has an IM feature for quick messages. Setting up reports and building them from scratch could not be simpler. Exporting reports to Excel or Tableau is very straightforward. It comes with prebuilt reports, and if you need to create a custom report, theres a feature that walks you through the steps.
Cons
Though the software has really intuitive reporting features, sometimes the data itself does not make sense. For instance, we ran a report for no-shows, and there were instances of 1 no-show/0 booked slot. There are also different report categories that include/exclude certain types of data. For example, you may not find certain billing data in a clinical category report.

“There are better products for less money. Paper charts are still better than Athena.”
Pros
You can create order sets (Doctor's orders) that include correct diagnoses, labs, X-rays, and prescriptions, which will enhance your efficiency and save time. You can also e-prescribe controlled medications with the help of your iPhone.
Cons
It is unnecessarily overpriced. You still need to pay your biller, or just use Athena as your biller and waste 20 cents (per dollar). Most of the terminology they use comes from the computer world, not the medical world. I would be embarrassed to run a company like Athena. We are currently searching for a new EMR system to replace Athena.

“I have used this software at two different facilities. Which I learned it at one an used at the other”
Pros
This software is the best once you learn the process. It helps that the customer service representatives are very helpful and will guide you through any issues.
Cons
The verification part is not as helpful as I thought. It is so complicated to understand.

“Its a great product that every collections agency should use.”
Pros
The training modules make it easy to use live. When I used Athena live, I was ready to assist my customers and patients.
Cons
There are no options to check box an amount. You have to enter each payment manually. It can be challenging to keep up, especially in a fast-paced environment.

“Much better suited to individual practices”
Pros
Athenahealth EHR is competitively priced with a decent feature set well-suited to an individual provider practice. Its integrated billing components, being the first part of the software developed, are solid.
Cons
The interface and many of the UI control concepts are outdated on the user front end. The administrative interfaces are similarly outdated and create a lot of extra work for organizations with many providers, locations, specialties, etc.

“Mediocre”
Pros
It is relatively easy to navigate within the system, and with some upgrades in functionality, it has improved, e.g., upgrades with the last patient's charts opened, etc.
Cons
Recently, the customer support structure has changed, which is somewhat frustrating when trying to reach a "live person." It also depends on the person you get and their level of knowledge such as one person can be really great and super helpful, while the other person may literally not know what to do. Its great when you get a live person, but even getting to a live person is not as easy as it used to be.

“Nice EHR”
Pros
Being able to fax orders through the app instead of manually saves a lot of time! Plus, the Athena chat with co-workers is like texting.
Cons
When Athena goes down, we have to switch to paper charts, which takes up a lot of time that could be used for other tasks.

“Good Software”
Pros
You can accomplish everything you need in the system. The customer service is usually good, and the ticketing system is effective.
Cons
They charge by percentage, which limits small billing businesses from getting this software. They never give you a quote unless they see your revenue.

“Athena is easy to use”
Pros
I like that it's very user-friendly and includes numerous shortcuts for scheduling, labs, and other tasks.
Cons
I do not like that lab orders cannot be grouped for printing all at once; sometimes you have to print them one by one, which is time-consuming.

Pros
You can probably tell that I like it! It is secure and excellent for billing my clients. The secure text messaging is great and compatible with my Apple Watch.
Cons
It is a bit pricey compared to competitors, but probably worth it given the vast array of features present.

“The cloud”
Pros
The cloud-based system offers disaster recovery, a price per patient with no additional fees, and includes updates in the price.
Cons
The scheduler is somewhat tricky to use, especially for the lab and medical imaging departments, with only two choices for built-in interfaces for PACS.

“Clincal is great, Collector...not so much”
Pros
The clinical side is excellent, easy to navigate, and order sets are simple to modify and create. Access to other physicians' order sets as examples is also beneficial.
Cons
The billing team is uneducated, outsourced from another country, and does not understand coding basics. Payor Enrollment Customer Service is also lacking.
