“Up and running!”
Pros
The idea of changing EHR systems was daunting, but our switch to Athena was wonderful. We love the system. The transmission of info from our first EHR to this one was complete and accurate. We could decide how we wanted it to conform to our needs. The trainers are fantastic and have returned several times to broaden our use and experience. We were slow at first, but the system is intuitive and easy for both experienced and new staff to figure out. Athena has built-in several paths to each task, so it appeals to a wide range of staff.
Cons
I get comfortable in my routine, and then Athena shows up for a refresher course, and suddenly I have a whole new set of tricks! It is a bit faster and a lot better.

“Was Better years ago”
Pros
Obtaining all insurance information quickly was easier years ago. Signing up with insurance companies and getting claims processed within 24 hours of submission was also simple.
Cons
Support focuses more on the mechanical aspects of the program but is unable to evaluate certain medical aspects.

“Promises broken.”
Pros
Obtaining insurance eligibility and getting immediate feedback to correct claims before submission is great. The billing software is very effective, but you lose control of the claims since Athena has payments made to a bank account they manage.
Cons
Patient notes are very difficult to customize, and the pre-installed templates are awkward and lack options. The billing team is unresponsive when there are issues, and support is slow as we have had an unresolved issue since January. The system also lacks the ability to message patients directly, fax most documents, or export charts to a fax number unless it is a pre-existing contact in the software.

“Athena pros and cons”
Pros
I like that we can do everything in one system. Scheduling is easy and fast, and checking patient insurance on demand is very convenient.
Cons
We have had a persistent glitch for more than six months when processing copays. It randomly gives an error message and does not communicate with our credit card terminal, and no one at Athena has been able to fix this. Its very frustrating to keep explaining the issue without getting any answers or resolution.

“Worked in offices over the last couple years with this software”
Pros
I like the aesthetics. It is easy to switch between different offices and doctors. Adding diagnostic pictures for monitoring wounds and other issues is very simple.
Cons
It is nice to have templates, but when entering data, you have to move the mouse and click where you want it. Other software allows options like using "F2" to skip to fields that need to be populated. The room assignments work well but are a bit time-consuming.

“Excellent but complex”
Pros
Athena covers all aspects of a medical practice, large or small. It incorporates everything an office needs to accomplish and strives to make it comprehensive.
Cons
The accounting portion is extremely complex and hard to learn, taking a lot of time to master. It requires constant attention to detail and can quickly get out of control if not monitored.

“Postive Pro's, Countless Cons”
Pros
Athena Clinicals simplifies communication with Athena Text, secure messaging, Patient Case options, and special documentation options for all patient and clinical staff needs.
Cons
The medical records system is a painful process for both patients and clinical staff through Athena. Scanning documents often does not show up in the charting system, and it only works successfully with Athena-compatible providers most of the time, making the process tedious and error-prone.

“I have been on Athena for over a year and it is a step above my last system”
Pros
It is easy to use, with global functionality and lots of useful data. I have not even learned to use all its features yet.
Cons
There are a lot of buttons to click until you get your flow right. There was no formal training on the product; we sort of learned as we went.

“Easy to use and accessible on any platform.”
Pros
Enhanced workflows make documentation easy. Automatic patient identification, a rich patient snapshot view, and continuation of care with patient engagement tools are all excellent features.
Cons
Clinical decision support alerts need improvement. The layout and design are not good, and there are too many noise alerts and suggestions.
