The biggest win with Doxy.me is that patients get the same dedicated link to click every single time no passwords and no user IDs to hunt down. Anyone can forget login details and I constantly had to resend information before. After just one or two Doxy.me sessions though, the login issues basically disappeared. Now I get frustrated when my providers try to make people follow a 17 step process just to join a session. Also, the service has been remarkably resilient, it can take a beating and still keep going. There are days when I'm connected through Doxy.me for up to 5 hours for teletherapy and it stays steady and smooth for the full time.

Cons

In the beginning, calls sometimes dropped or wouldn't start unless I tried logging in multiple times. That happens extremely rarely now I haven't had the problem in months. Doxy.me deserves credit here and I also appreciate that they keep checking in about whether you're running into issues because the product has clearly gotten more reliable over time.

I really enjoy how doxy.me gives me a single link to use every time. Day to day use feels simple overall and it's clearly built for the needs of clinicians. It also stands out to me because it's priced substantially lower than some other popular platforms that don't really cater to clinicians. The "pay by the day" option is the part I appreciate most it offers a lot of flexibility when you're still growing your caseload. I also checked it from the client side and it comes across as professional while still being easy for clients to join using their own devices.

When I first log in, the camera and microphone are already turned on. I'd prefer a setting that defaults them to off.

Doxy.me is hard to criticize. I've been using the free plan they offer and even though the resolution isn't the very top available, it's still good enough for real therapy sessions. There aren't extra features like document sharing or group meetings but that's not something I personally need. What really matters is that it's HIPAA compliant which should stay important as things continue to normalize after the COVID period so it helps keep telehealth legally covered. Another plus is that, unlike many other video services, the patient doesn't have to download any software just to join the call. Clients also seem to find the connection and navigation simple.

Cons

The one trade off is that the video quality/resolution isn't the highest. It also appears to react a bit more to unstable internet or Wi Fi than some competing platforms. Still, the pricing is hard to beat. I'd suggest keeping a couple of backup platforms available since any service can have occasional hiccups.

You can have a video call within seconds without an account or login required.

Cons

If either party has a poor internet connection, older computer, or unstable netbook/PC, the video call may not work, making it impossible to have an appointment. Sometimes, if the connection isn't strong enough, you may have to resort to a regular phone call, which defeats the purpose.

I found Doxy.me very easy to start using. At first, I had a bunch of drops and hangs on my Apple MacBook Pro with OS 10, but my husband found a free patch on the Apple user board, installed it, and this fixed the issue.

Honestly, I can't think of anything that bothers me. It would be cool if you could set a different background like on Zoom to avoid worrying about what's behind you during a professional encounter, but to be honest, it looks too weird on Zoom to use it as a therapist anyway.
