uncluttered interface

Pros

Found it user friendly because the interface is simple and uncluttered. It's reliable for day-to-day use and whenever support is needed, the team has been very helpful and responsive.

Cons

At this point I really don't have any major complaints. The issues that came up in the past seem to have been addressed and the company keeps updating the platform regularly which shows they're always working to improve it.

Free plan perfect for starting out

Pros

Having a free version was a huge bonus for getting my new practice up and running. The free plan includes enough features to cover the basics and my clients were able to use it without any trouble too.

Cons

The free plan definitely has some limits but they do offer paid options that make sense once a practice starts growing and needs more.

allows easy connection with physicians

Pros

It makes it convenient for providers to see patients remotely. Patients can connect with their physicians without the inconvenience of leaving the comfort and privacy of home. Since it is HIPAA compliant, patient confidentiality is protected while still allowing efficient care to be delivered.

Cons

It would be even more useful if patients could complete assessments online and upload them for the physician to review ahead of time.

Don't have to share personal info

Pros

I use it regularly and it's very simple for my clients to join. Another big plus is that they don't have to share any personal identifying information.

Cons

At times the video quality gets blurry. A few times each month, I end up having to stop using the platform and move the session over to a phone call.

issues with camera access

Pros

The interface looks appealing and I do appreciate that it's HIPAA compliant. Beyond those two points though, there really isn't much else that stood out positively for me.

Cons

The biggest problem was that doxy.me cut off browser access to my camera twice for no clear reason. It ended up disabling camera use across any page I had open in Chrome. Both times, I had to clear cookies and restart everything just to get the camera working again. None of the support articles covered this issue which made it even more frustrating. Because of that, I'm switching back to the product I used before. It may not look as nice and the quality may be lower but at least it's dependable.

HIPAA compliance gives me peace of mind

Pros

It's reassuring to know the software is HIPAA compliant.

Cons

Because it runs in the browser, it can take a little longer to log in and get a session started.

Free plan offers a lot of functionality

Pros

Great for both me as a clinician and for my patients. The platform is very user-friendly and the fact that it usually works without requiring any downloads is a huge advantage. On top of that, the free plan offers a lot of useful functionality. I would definitely recommend it.

Cons

From time to time, there are small call quality issues but most of the time it has worked well for both me and my patients.

handy messaging feature

Pros

Using it has been really simple, with very few glitches and it's been a solid product for the cost. The ability to message users is also a very useful feature.

Cons

At times there's trouble getting the camera to connect and there isn't a way to save a log of the patients or users you've already seen.

Connection issues and poor support

Pros

At first, the platform was simple to use and just as simple to explain to clients which made me feel very optimistic about using it.

Cons

Things began well but a couple of months ago it stopped connecting properly. It first started freezing and then eventually I couldn't connect at all. Customer service couldn't give me a real explanation and instead suggested that my client and I switch to newer devices even though it had been working fine before. They also failed to follow through on the test call they had scheduled with me two days earlier. Overall it was very disappointing.

constant call drops and poor compatibility

Pros

The Doxy.me website and sign-in process are simple for both patients and therapists to get through.

Cons

Calls don't stay connected for more than an hour and most of the time they drop after just 15 minutes. It also doesn't work well with anything other than Apple devices.

support team is always available

Pros

I first heard about it at an ethics conference for counselors and I was glad to learn they will sign a BAA to help maintain confidentiality, unlike Skype or FaceTime. That makes it possible for me to meet virtually with my residents and talk through confidential client information without concern. The free version has also been perfect for my situation since I'm retired and only need access for a few hours each month to see my residents. Getting started was very simple, signing the BAA was simple and the platform itself has been very easy to use. My residents can also enter my virtual "waiting room" without any hassle. On top of that, there are hardly any glitches, the video and audio are almost always excellent and customer support is consistently available when needed. I've recommended doxy.me many times to colleagues and have even included their website in a bi-monthly newsletter article I write for my local counselor association.

Cons

Honestly I can't think of anything I dislike about it.

accessible from phone

Pros

Its user friendly for everyone. I can access it from my phone and on the client side, it's as simple as clicking a single link to join the session.

Cons

There isn't much I actively dislike about it. The only issue I run into from time to time is connection problems and occasional audio trouble although I'm not completely sure that's caused by Doxy.me since it could just be related to the user's computer setup.

Browser-based convenience with waiting room

Pros

Being browser-based is amazing. My clients are glad they don't need to install an app and I really appreciate having the waiting room feature as well.

Cons

At times the video freezes and the audio cuts out which is a serious problem for online therapy sessions. I've already checked my router and internet speed so that doesn't seem to be the cause. It may be happening on the client's side.

easy to set up an account

Pros

Clients can get into it without any trouble and setting up an account is pretty quick. Signing in on my end is simple too and the connection rarely drops.

Cons

Like most platforms, it does lose connection once in a while. That's really the only downside I've run into with the program.

Custom templates and helpful tutorials

Pros

The credit card processing integration works really well and the customized note templates have been a huge help. The tutorials are also very helpful and make it simple to get comfortable with the platform.

Cons

The part I like least is that there still isn't a good way to write notes efficiently for group sessions.

perfect for patients who can't visit

Pros

Having a free, user-friendly telehealth platform like this has been fantastic. It's especially helpful for seeing patients who are away at school or when bad weather makes in-person visits difficult. I'm really happy to have this available as an option.

Cons

There have been times when the video was pretty choppy and early on I often ran into connection issues. That said the connection has seemed better lately.

Easy for clients who arent comfortable with technology

Pros

Its easy to learn and my clients can join without downloading anything. That makes a big difference especially since I work with a wide variety of clients, including people who are not very comfortable with technology.

Cons

The connection can be inconsistent. Calls sometimes freeze so I usually need to keep another backup service available just in case.

boosted my productivity

Pros

Being able to connect with anyone from anywhere has great. It makes scheduling much more convenient especially when people are in different time zones and it has definitely boosted my productivity a lot.

Cons

At times the video can be a bit choppy or laggy though that seems more related to the internet connection on one side or the other. The picture quality can also be inconsistent sometimes it looks clear and other times not as much.

reliable for overseas sessions

Pros

Working overseas with an expat population means internet quality can be all over the place and Doxy has been fairly dependable in that setting.

Cons

There are times when Skype performs a lot better. Doxy can become very pixelated and freeze up and if my client and I switch over to Skype in the middle of a session, the connection is usually much better.
