“lets me extract every piece of clinical information
Pros
As an analyst, being able to pull up every piece of clinical information I need such as orders, faces, reports, even the images has been enormously helpful. It serves as my go to hub when I am reviewing medical records and I have found the auditing and reporting features to be exceptionally powerful and useful for the kinds of analyses I perform.
Cons
The complexity of EPIC is something I constantly bump up against. it's powerful but also one of the most complicated EMR systems I have used in terms of both setup and day-to-day use. Because each organization gets a customized EPIC build, the training I took in Wisconsin ended up feeling nearly useless since our production environment looked and behaved so differently from their demo. Moving between hospital systems was tough for me because my new employer's EPIC instance felt very unlike my last one. There's also a heavy degree of compartmentalization that can be intimidating. If I need a change in our build, it has to be submitted and then reviewed by local engineers who frequently have to consult EPIC support to implement it. That means something as trivial as adjusting a worklist or changing a procedure code can, in my experience, stretch out into weeks or even months. It isn't the worst system but I get frustrated when I compare it to places where users and admins are allowed more direct control over their EMR.

“Automatically brings in completed details
Pros
I love that it automatically brings in details from sections I have already completed which saves me a ton of time.
Cons
My biggest problem is the limited number of dropdown choices in some parts of the software which slows me down. More selectable options would really cut down on time spent, particularly in healthcare settings where extensive documentation is constantly required.

“Simple to navigate!
Pros
What I appreciate most about this software is how simple it is to navigate. I also value being able to build my own templates which speeds up charting for clinicians.
Cons
I find the required training before using the system in the office frustrating. I think it would be far more helpful to have an on-site trainer available in real time so I can better get used to the platform.

“Incredibly easy and user friendly system
Pros
This EMR is incredibly easy to use and genuinely one of the most user friendly systems I have worked with. Its RCM functionality is unmatched and even auto-generates the accruals I need without issue. Plus I appreciate the clear, automated executive dashboards that present information in an easily digestible way.
Cons
While I recognize it's part of what makes the product successful, I do feel the price is by far the highest on the market and it lacks extensive customization options.

“packed with time-saving features
Pros
I really value features like Care Everywhere and the speed with which I can finish charts and I find the interface to be highly customizable so it fits my routine. There are often several different ways to do the same thing which sometimes feels like overkill but more often gives me helpful options. Many parts can be tweaked and I can show or hide a ton of settings. Epic will auto-generate details I probably won't need most of the time, yet when I actually need those specifics it's convenient to have them available. I am able to pull up result reviews without opening the full patient chart and if that side panel let me enter more information it would make it possible to complete an entire chart without waiting for the main chart to load. That would also allow me to keep an eye on my list or tracker without constantly clicking back into the chart.
Cons
I find the system slow to load charts and to exit them which is especially frustrating because there's a limit to how many charts I can have open at once. Simple tasks can require a surprising number of clicks and that feels annoying when I am trying to move quickly. I have also noticed a lot of variation in how other users set up and navigate Epic, so it's hard to know where something should appear on someone else's screen. At times the interface feels cluttered with too much information and even though I have a large monitor at work it still seems like I need an even bigger one so I am not constantly resizing windows.

“highly customizable
Pros
From my experience, this electronic medical record system is incredibly customizable, letting me tailor many aspects to fit our workflow. What I appreciate most is that Epic connects across numerous health systems no matter where they are located. When a patient from out of town arrives without any notes about their medical history, recent operations, medications or allergies, Epic usually has the information I need. I have also found the mobile app really handy for checking results while I am away from the hospital or office.
Cons
I have found Epic has quite a steep learning curve and getting proficient takes significant time working within the system before you really understand all the ins and outs. On top of that, it's prone to generating many error messages and I notice that irrelevant alerts sometimes pop up seemingly at random which can be distracting.
