Epic is incredibly feature-rich and very sophisticated. They've added an integrated video conferencing feature within the platform which I find really handy. I am also able to pull up patient charts from any clinician throughout the entire hospital network very easily which saves a lot of time.

it can be hard at times to remember all the tools and how to operate them properly. I needed formal training and also had to invest quite a bit of time to feel comfortable using the system day-to-day.

I rely on the prescription order entry and the charting documentation, they make managing medication orders and patient notes much easier in my workflow.

inter-personnel messaging is awkward and difficult to use. It doesn't create or save single threaded conversations like modern email platforms do, so I end up wading through a pile of separate messages instead of just opening one continuous thread.

“User friendly with a paper directory feel

Pros

I am absolutely smitten with how user-friendly it is as using Epic feels effortless. It really mimics a paper directory which I find comforting and the side tabs are a feature I especially enjoy. In my files I maintain a flawless record of pathology findings so when I need to pull up biopsy results, locating them is pretty simple and fast. I also like that it runs on both Mac and PC which makes life simpler. As more colleagues shift to remote work, interacting with this tool from home has become much more convenient, so overall it fits well with how we work today.

Cons

One thing that really frustrates me is that I am only able to view four medical records at once. Ideally it would let me open at least five which is better yet six or seven will be amazing. But once the fourth patient tab is open, the system forces you to close pages before you can open a graph which interrupts my workflow. Also, navigating in the Epic environment feels sluggish when opening and closing tabs. It often seems to crawl along which is annoying during a busy session.
