Ease of use makes it the best EHR out there

Pros

I used to be a trainer in hospitals and private clinics for this software and I have realized that its ease of use is amongst the top percentile of EHR software. This is one-stop software for all your needs.

Cons

The cost. Data migration into the system was also very time consuming, We had to manually scan and upload all paper charts.

Versatile and full-featured emr platform

Pros

As an analyst working with Epic, I find it one of the most versatile and full?featured EMR platforms Ive come across. I help configure and tailor the system to fit our health networks needs and that process is pretty simple. Plus everything made even more manageable by the solid support and resources Epic provides to teams like ours.

Cons

From my experience, Epic's pricing is always a sensitive issue. I have to make sure we can afford the system while still securing the necessary accommodations to meet our infrastructure and workflow requirements. The major drawback for me is that Epic pushes its standard framework which limits how much we can customize the setup.

User friendly but not accessible visually

Pros

I find it very user-friendly, with easy access and plenty of detail.

Cons

However, I find it's not accessible for people with visual impairments because some elements are too small. It also pre-populates far too many fields by default and I wish those could be pared down.

Efficient EHR

Pros

I love how this software helps to deliver medical records so efficiently. It’s so easy to use that I haven’t found anything else that can work as efficiently as Epic EHR. I also like that it has many different features for all parties in the patient chart to work more efficiently.

Cons

I found that the system can be a bit tedious sometimes which does make it an issue. Some functions can be difficult to find and training on this system is a grueling task. But, I also think that it’s well worth it, once you learn it. Just make sure you have enough time to go through all the training, though.

Pros

EpicCare is without a doubt way ahead of its game, in comparison to other competitors in the market. The idea behind the system design is simplified yet innovative which has proved to be of great convenience for its clients in healthcare and the patients. Setting up orders for patients has been made incredibly easy in the new updates. Epic has made it so simple to perform a wide variety of tasks, from prescription renewal, appointment scheduling to organizing records history and tracking encounters.

Cons

User support/administration isnt entirely open to easy to apply changes that are mentioned with regards to basic undertakings that could be made simpler by the option of a button or checkbox on specific pages. There have been instances when it goes out of service, which can be very troublesome especially during the clinic hours.

Really simple to pull up screens

Pros

it's really simple to pull up the screen I want. I can jump into order history or patient history and even dig into more detailed information by opening the patient's chart.

Cons

I find that when I am scrolling to pick a dosing time, I cannot view the whole screen at once. I end up having to swipe side to side to see the day and then swipe back to check the times which is annoying.

Some bugs but overall good

Pros

I love how simple the functionality of this software is. It makes life so much easier. Its ease of use is definitely a plus point of Epic. It has a very simple application interface, but it gets the job done just the way I want it to. It is an overall good software which I would endorse for basic use.

Cons

Although I am still working out the bugs with the recent transitions, I feel it can be of great help if the functionality was explained in training in more detail. The software is also too simple when it comes to the user interface and could use some changes there to make it better.

Unlimited possibilities with Epic

Pros

I found Epic to be extremely versatile in the ability to provide a lot of functions to me via the healthcare settings. The new updates that have been introduced make setting up orders for patients so much easier. I find it to be amazing in every sense. From medication reconciliation and appointment scheduling to its organization of encounters and medical history, Epic can do everything.

Cons

While the software is great, the customer support/service is not very receptive to user-friendly changes that are requested. When it comes to simple tasks that could be made easier by the input of a button or checkbox in certain areas, Epic has not realized it can be much friendlier.

Link up with major healthcare systems

Pros

We were able to link up with other major healthcare systems through Epic which let us pull records from outside clinics and significantly improved our clinic's efficiency so we can provide better care to patients. Its scheduling and charting tools outperformed other healthcare software we've used.

Cons

I needed a full day of training to feel comfortable using it but that instruction was extremely valuable and made learning the system much easier.

like storing and pulling data

Pros

I appreciate that Epic stores data and lets me pull it into other areas. It clearly displays who performed each action and the exact time. I also appreciate how simple and quick it is to access the information I need without issue.

Cons

It's my least favorite aspect of Epic when it crashes. On those occasions it can create extra work for staff because the system isn't functioning properly.

Great program but costly

Pros

Epic truly lives by its name. It’s super easy to use and has made life so much easier once you learn the ins and outs of this software. Really, the opportunities are endless with this EHR and I am sure my fellow employees will agree with me. Dot phrases can significantly cut down on documentation time, which is a major plus. Easy to use after some training and that is all that counts.

Cons

Although this software is great, it does require some training and learning before use to make the most of what this software is capable of. It only works well for you once you are familiarized with it otherwise forget understanding how to use it. The cost too is slightly high, but then again so is any large scale software.

A great system

Pros

Epic brings all the ease of maneuvering throughout the system in its simplistic software. The best part is that only a little education about the program was needed and the rest was quite self-explanatory. A lot of its different aspects such as the patient banner helps to quickly analyze the patient at hand – this is such a blessing for us. It has been a great system to bring the organization together.

Cons

The software just needs some changes and they need it pronto. For example, certain features throughout different organizations allow for a very general physical assessment, where the option is between ‘regular and irregular’, instead, Epic uses the option of no change or normal – this can become an issue if not looked at correctly.

Average and difficult to use

Pros

Although the system is quite average, it is the customization which I like in Epic. The layout and templates are tailor-fitted, which was good thinking on their part. Also, the charting is clear and patient tracking is easy. I would say that these things make Epic a fair system to check out.

Cons

I found the functionality of the software average at best; it can be so much better. You really need to be very well versed on the ins and out to customize it, and that’s a task at hand for anyone, not computer-savvy. The challenges are really on usability it proves that Epic is not an easy system to learn.

EPIC

Pros

I am happy with EPIC and the way it works. It has made things a lot easier for us and saves a lot of our time. It is easy to navigate and once you learn how it works, everything becomes pretty simple and easy. The patient information adding is great as you can add all the required information. The reports are great. It is an amazing product.

Cons

The system can be overwhelming, there is a lot to take in and remember all the keys, its short cut keys and all the features, it’s a lot. The upgrades that come seems to me quite useless most of the times, because all the upgrade does is enhance colors or change icons etc, so they shouldn’t bother upgrading until they’ve actually added something useful to the product.

Helpful for safe medication administration

Pros

This system is really helpful for ensuring medications are given safely because it links drug details directly to each medication and makes charting simple and user-friendly. Also there are so many different flowsheets to choose from that I can usually find one that fits the situation. When certain fields aren't useful, I can hide them or mark them as complete which keeps things tidy. It also connects with our monitors and devices so vital signs and other patient data are pulled in automatically. Plus I appreciate how it supports messaging across the interdisciplinary team and stores contact info and there are multiple routes to reach the same place in the chart.

Cons

In my experience, some of the charting and flowsheets feel unnecessarily repetitive which can slow me down. Also, when a flowsheet or part of the chart gets hidden it can be surprisingly tricky to figure out exactly how to unhide or reactivate it. I also think it takes quite a while to get the right custom EPIC build in place for our institution, so we deal with frequent upgrades and a steep learning curve whenever a new version is rolled out.

Powerful storage with robust dot phrases

Pros

Epic is powerful as it can store almost any piece of information you want to throw at it. I love how much data the charts can display. One of my favorite parts is how robust the dot phrases are. They transform my note-writing time down dramatically. Customer service has been excellent, fast, helpful and reliable. We back Epic and for us the benefits clearly outnumber the drawbacks.

Cons

I find it useful but it isn't always easy to locate what I need as you have to be in the right 'context' and navigate the chart in a specific order to uncover some items.

Absolutely love epic for clinicians

Pros

I absolutely love Epic. Actually almost everyone at my hospital is a fan and we're moving over to this platform very soon. What really sells it to me is how it cuts down on pointless clicks as clinicians can be so frustrated by extra clicking. When I am seeing patients in clinic I want to finish notes quickly so my attention stays on the patient rather than the screen. It helps with that by laying out information in a sensible sequence and it lets you compose notes much like a Word document where you can type freely. Writing prescriptions is easy too and the tech support team has been amazing.

Cons

In my experience, some functions can be tricky to track down and at our hospital the training is limited to just two days, so I found we needed more hands-on time afterward to feel fully confident using the system.

Interesting Software

Pros

I think I really enjoy the different features there were on this software and how many different aspects there are to customize your EPIC sign-in to your liking. I absolutely loved the custom tool bar and the different drop downs that I can pin in the order I liked as well. I feel for many like me, who identify as a part of the younger generation, I feel the software was super easy to learn and there wasn’t really a learning curve there.

Cons

I feel that while it’s easy to use, the functionality of Epic can be much better. Also, customer service needs to pick up their pace. I personally did not have any problems but other employees have complained about the waiting time on this software’s support line.
