“Excellent interdisciplinary platform
Pros
I find it an excellent interdisciplinary platform as it provides phone numbers for other providers, alerts me when a colleague is accessing a patient's chart as I try to open it and supplies the contact details so I can reach out to that person. It's really convenient to have the patient's entire record consolidated in one place.
Cons
In my department there feels like an unnecessary amount of repetition. I have to input diagnosis codes every single time we see the patient, even when they come in weekly for the exact same service which ends up being time-consuming and redundant.

“Simple to move between features
Pros
What I appreciate is how simple it is to move between features and the fact there are several different methods to complete tasks which lets me pick the approach that works best for my needs
Cons
I don't really have any major or infuriating issues with the software. mostly I notice small, perhaps trivial annoyances that some might call petty

“Really useful for revenue cycle
Pros
I have found it really useful for handling the revenue cycle as keeping track of dues, copay amounts, co-payer details and monitoring all submitted bills.
Cons
Personally, I feel it's lagging behind competitors in the market, slow to adapt to evolving needs and generally not proactive about introducing the updates we require.

“Big advantage as most hospitals run it
Pros
Most hospitals and clinics around my city run on EPIC and I find that to be a big advantage. When patients end up at more than one site, staff at the other facility can look up their medical history and pick up on critical details. I like that the electronic system lets clinicians share information without having to be on the phone or meet in person and it provides access to records from multiple locations. That functionality is really important for our organization because our providers often care for patients at several different sites and need reliable, shared information.
Cons
Overall, the platform has smoothed communication for administrators, providers and other healthcare professionals, so I genuinely don't have any complaints about EPIC. It has helped coordination and reduced friction in our workflows which I appreciate.

“Extremely easy to pick up and use
Pros
It is extremely easy to pick up and use, without a steep learning curve. The flowsheets are simple to navigate and offer the best charting tools. Frankly, this is the best EMR I have ever used.
Cons
In my experience, it can take quite some time before it's customized for the particular facility where I work. Right after installation it's generic and requires numerous updates to make it fit our setting.

“Relied on epic across all departments
Pros
At our hospital we relied on the Epic system across all departments. Training new staff was easy and the software let us keep tabs on insurance details and record every patient visit directly within the system.
Cons
I didn't find many downsides to this EMR as it served our hospital really well. My main complaint was the slow customer support response whenever problems popped up which could be frustrating during critical moments.

“Easy to pull up and compare lab results
Pros
I find it easy to pull up and compare current and past lab results and I also like that records from other facilities can be imported so everything's kept in one spot.
Cons
When I am trying to look up patients with hyphenated names, it can be frustrating because I have to type their name exactly right for the system to bring up the correct person.

“Makes storing data easy but outdated
Pros
This software makes storing and managing patient data pretty easy. It also lets me generate reports whenever necessary.
Cons
I am not a fan of how the software feels overall. I get the impression it's somewhat dated. I think the layout could be tidied up and organized more effectively.

“Appreciate viewing detailed treatment options
Pros
What I appreciate is being able to view patient treatment options and notes, including the exact day, time and which provider recorded them. I find this level of detail useful when making decisions about patient management.
Cons
What frustrates me is that it's difficult to tell which treatment options are part of protocol or recommended versus those that are considered non-preferred.

“Great EMR for in-patient data
Pros
The flow sheets are of great help to me, and so easy to work with. Makes it easy to go through the reports. Color coding revolutionizes the organization of compartments and the MAR makes it so easy to read.
Cons
Reviewing orders can be difficult to do. Even though there are separate options for managing orders and viewing orders history, it is still at times hard to review all the order details the way they were put. It would also be very helpful if they offered a TAR (treatment administration record). It would help keep records of the treatments such as skin care or injury /wound treatment.

“Better for inpatient not outpatient.
Pros
It is simple and easy once trained. The nursing and physician notes are easily accessible and is placed in one place. On the right side of the screen there is a QUICK summary toolbar which really easy to use and it also saves a lot of our chart reviewing time. It is a good product to use.
Cons
It is not really the best for therapy notes. The inpatient is much better than the outpatient as for the outpatient it is not therapy friendly at all. Have to create our own templates and phrases which is very time consuming, but once done eases out the process.

“Quickly view notes with handy summary
Pros
I can quickly view nursing and physician notes all together in one place and I really like the handy 'quick' summary toolbar on the right side of the screen since it saves me a lot of time when I am reviewing charts.
Cons
For outpatient work it's really not therapy-friendly, whereas inpatient use is much smoother. Outpatient documentation is scattered and inconsistently formatted, so it routinely takes me around 45 minutes to complete an evaluation note. I also have to create my own 'smart phrases' or templates. that helps once they're set up but building them is time consuming.

“Completely focused on patients
Pros
I am impressed that it's completely focused on patients. I find that every piece of information I need is attached to the patient record rather than buried in the application itself and I can share that record with other sites that use Epic.
Cons
Honestly, it often feels like there are too many clicks to accomplish routine tasks and I don't see enough timely updates and centralized support flowing from Epic out to the various sites. I also think end users like me would benefit from much better training.

“Everything available in one spot
Pros
Everything I need is available in one spot. As a clinician having notes and updates from every team involved with the patient helps me deliver more comprehensive care. The layout and tabbed interface are user friendly and simple to navigate and fast too.
Cons
The system is constantly changing and I find it hard to keep up. Although I can customize almost everything, it requires so many steps that I almost give up.

“Impressive product for wide range of users
Pros
I find Epic Systems has built an impressive product that supports a wide range of users and in my experience the functionality and overall usability are outstanding.
Cons
From my perspective, Epic Systems has tended to operate as a closed platform and I have found it difficult for organizations like mine to innovate because the build is so restrictive.

“Really impressed with excellent notes
Pros
I am really impressed with the programming. the notes I add to patients' charts are excellent, the system is thorough, easy to navigate and full of helpful detail.
Cons
There isn't much negative to report. I do wish the program downloaded more quickly, because aside from that small slowdown, I find it a solid piece of software.

“It is, as the name suggests, epic.
Pros
Great for multiple physicians-based clinics, hospitals, and health facilities. Epic is user-friendly and allows you to easily keep tabs over all your data once you learn to work the system. Transferring patient data across different sites is made super convenient with Epic. Patients have easy access to the portal.
Cons
The service is costly and the learning curve is quite steep. They offer training and conferences that have separate charges. the various screens to access patient data or perform a task, for example, placing orders is tedious.

“Homecare Therapy
Pros
The homecare system of EPIC is relatively new to all the other options which is an advantage for us because they’re currently open to suggestions and they have implemented them as well. It is a good system to work with and the team is really great. I can easily access information of patients and follow their patient care, it has cut down the amount of calls that I would have had to make just to keep track.
Cons
While charting there aren’t any required settings which kind of makes it a bit difficult as I don’t want to miss out any details and it takes a lot of time to make sure that I’ve gotten everything on it.

“Simple to reach out to other clinicians
Pros
It is simple to reach out to other clinicians in our network and I can easily view their notes. plus there are numerous features that make composing documentation fast and easy.
Cons
Managing my schedule and patient caseload is a struggle and I have trouble identifying who canceled or didn't show up which makes tracking follow-ups challenging.
