“Easy and convenient”
Pros
It feels easy and convenient especially compared with other EHR systems that tend to be more complicated.
Cons
One downside is that the software still can't calculate chronic care management.

“Accessible EHR solution”
Pros
Using this EHR has been very easy. It's easily the most accessible tool I've worked with and everything from uploading to filing and editing patient information is quick and concise.
Cons
Every now and then it runs into bugs especially when faxes or scanned files are too large. A more capable system for handling bigger file sizes would improve it by a mile.

“Startup clinic fit”
Pros
Getting started with it takes very little effort and there's hardly any training needed. It's honestly one of the better healthcare management systems available. The interface is very simple, the setup is easy and it works especially well for startup clinics.
Cons
It's very beginner-friendly but there isn't much flexibility when it comes to configuring it for large-scale systems. On top of that, the pricing is a bit on the expensive side.

“All-in-one scheduling”
Pros
Having billing, scheduling and patient records all in one place makes this platform really convenient to use. It does a great job of helping me stay on top of patient information and overall it has been comparable to other EMR systems I've worked with before.
Cons
One thing that holds it back is that it isn't as automated as some of the other software I've used in the past. The interface could also use some improvement and I'd like to see more options added for patient management.

“Easy to learn”
Pros
Compared with other options, this one is very user-friendly and easy to learn.
Cons
Even though it's simple to use, the software feels a little outdated and is missing features such as care everywhere.

“Support with navigation issues”
Pros
Round-the-clock customer support is there whenever issues come up and they usually provide fast and effective solutions. There are also plenty of videos and online resources that explain how to use it which helps a lot. On top of that, it offers very good value for the price.
Cons
Getting to a specific function takes too many clicks which ends up slowing down the workflow. It also needs a strong internet speed to run properly. The interface could definitely be improved so selecting certain functions feels simpler and more direct.

“Clinician workflow nightmare”
Pros
Honestly, the biggest upside for me was eventually getting away from it. It was such a frustrating system that leaving the practice also meant not having to deal with this software anymore. Pretty much every clinician in our clinic disliked it and the only group that seemed satisfied with it was billing which tells you a lot about what the program was really built to prioritize.
Cons
Using it felt very inefficient because everything took far too many clicks. The layout was buried inside nested windows with fixed sizes and moving between things like the ordering screen, ICD-10 window and your note was awkward to the point that you couldn't work naturally. It would also constantly ask whether to save changes every single time you switched tabs even when nothing had been changed. Notes became absurdly bloated too something as simple as a UTI or URI could turn into five pages. Another huge issue was how finds locked after 7 days. If you needed to work on an older chart, lab or message, you had to stop what you were doing, close everything out, log in again and manually unlock the encounter. Even basic patient messaging was badly designed. There was no real message center so instead you had to create an Encounter and enter a "Telephone Message." Replying to one didn't function anything like email and messages weren't threaded at all. They just lived as separate finds that eventually locked which made tracking conversations incredibly difficult. Looking up an old message was basically impossible because you had to open a giant list containing every Telephone Message ever created for that patient. The anticoagulation flowsheet was another mess. It generated page after page of INR values and doses and they weren't even reliably displayed in chronological order. On top of that, the system froze or crashed multiple times a week with no warning and no explanation which regularly disrupted clinical workflow. Support was practically nonexistent. Because we were an FQHC, the company would not even work with us directly and instead forced us through a third-party organization called OSIS that had no authority to actually change the software. Every request for customization or improvement was met with the same response, "working as designed." Since the system couldn't even handle basic health maintenance tracking for primary care, our clinic had to add extra plug-ins which only made it slower and caused even more crashes. It was so inefficient that the practice ended up hiring scribes for every clinician and even then people were still taking home another one to two hours of work every night.

“great clinic tool”
Pros
Working at the front desk in a clinic, I really appreciate the practice management and EHR parts of this software. They're clearly distinct but still work well together which helps a lot during busy shifts. It's important for me to add notes to patient charts while checking in new patients and keeping everything moving and this program supports that workflow well.
Cons
A few of the key features take more clicks to reach than they should, instead of being available through a single button for quicker access. In a setting where every second matters, having important tools buried in menus can slow things down. The interface also feels dated since it hasn't really changed in years and the mobile experience could definitely be better.

“Constantly improving”
Pros
The platform stands out for its overall functionality and how much it can be tailored to match the needs of almost any organization even with very specific workflows. It's also encouraging to see that they keep listening to customer feedback and building more default features into the product which helps strengthen the core platform over time.
Cons
That level of customization is definitely a double-edged sword. While it can make the system work much better for a business, it can also make maintenance and upgrades more complicated. Still, as they continue to incorporate client ideas and feedback, the base functionality should keep growing. I'd really like to see more built-in practice settings that support custom workflows without needing to create custom templates.

“EHR and billing hub”
Pros
Having the EHR and billing together in a single system has been really helpful because there's no need to juggle two separate platforms. The onboarding process also went very well and the trainers I worked with were excellent.
Cons
Reporting side has been frustrating. The reports aren't very useful, they're hard to work with and the overall experience isn't very user-friendly. The prebuilt reports don't always give what's needed and creating a custom report is difficult too. The reports section really stinks.

“Flexible on-premise setup”
Pros
From a developer's perspective, the flexibility here really stands out and the on-premise deployment gives us the freedom to tailor the software to exactly what we need. Very few EMR platforms actually allow this level of customization which makes it especially valuable for our team.
Cons
One drawback is the steep learning curve. The product has gone through many versions over the years and the differences between them can be pretty substantial. Because of that, tracking down the right documentation for a specific version can be tedious and take a lot of time.

“Highly customizable EHR”
Pros
Across just about any healthcare specialty, this EHR delivers a great solution. Being able to tailor the templates and documents to fit specific workflows and individual needs is a big advantage. On top of that, the user community is genuinely helpful when you need practical, real-world support.
Cons
Like many EMR and practice management platforms, they're always looking for additional revenue opportunities. One example is the extra fees they charge for interfaces with other systems.

“Telehealth and portal win”
Pros
One thing that really helps is being able to jump from one program to another which makes it much more convenient for providers to update and edit their work. I also appreciate that the company invested in Televideo and Telehealth well before COVID and OTTO has been a really great application. The new patient portal has also been a very positive addition.
Cons
At the same time, the interface could use a serious refresh. It has looked the same for a long time, rather than moving toward a better GUI. A more modern web-based layout with tabs would make it much easier to manage and stronger cross-functionality with other modules would be a big improvement.

“Billing insight boost”
Pros
Updating records and carrying over information from a previous visit is very convenient. It also works well with dictation software which makes documentation easier. The built-in billing system is a big plus especially being able to review submitted claims and quickly check the revenue that has been collected.
Cons
Clicking through each organ system doesn't really fit my workflow because it takes more time than using a premade template. To get around that, I created templates for each part of the SOAP note and those work perfectly well in the freehand typing section.

“Knowledgeable support staff”
Pros
Whenever I reach out to support, I end up speaking with someone in the US who really understands the system. They're able to answer my questions clearly and usually fix the issue pretty quickly.
Cons
The payment posting side could definitely use improvement because there are very few workarounds available. Even with 20 years of billing experience across different systems, this one still took me well over a year to fully learn.

“simple for telemedicine”
Pros
Getting trained was easy with the videos and handouts and I didn't have to travel anywhere to do it. The customer support has been excellent, the system feels very simple and it works really well on Mac. Starting telemedicine visits was also very simple.
Cons
I'd just like an easier way to integrate data with our state health registry.

“Flawless design”
Pros
This EHR software not only caters to all aspects of our EHR and administrative tasks in medical practices but also saves our providers time which eventually allow them to focus towards patient care.

I just wish there were more open APIs that allows software development with compatible proprietary products. And the best thing is that NextGen seems open to exploring such opportunities.
