“Customizable according to your needs
Pros
One of the biggest advantages is how customizable it is. It works especially well for practices that want a lot of control and flexibility since templates, workflows and reports can all be adjusted to match specific needs.
Cons
There is definitely a learning curve though. New users can feel pretty overwhelmed in the beginning and it is not very beginner-friendly. It takes time to train staff and really understand how the workflows are set up.

“slow reporting function
Pros
Medical note connected to a claim is linked right inside the claim itself which makes that specific note quick to pull up and review. The area for adding notes to an individual claim also does its job well.
Cons
reporting tools are a big frustration. Reports take far too long to load and the functionality feels very limited. Posting takebacks is also difficult and the balance ends up sitting under the wrong insurance responsibility. On top of that, the whole process for sending and reviewing claims feels overly tedious.

“My go to tool!
Pros
I can set up this system to work exactly how we want. We can change the templates and workflows to fit our needs perfectly and it plays nice with all our other software. The reports are really powerful and the tools for keeping patients involved are a huge plus for us.
Cons
The interface feels a bit old-fashioned sometimes and it can be confusing when you're new. For some tasks, it takes more clicks than it should and could be a lot simpler.

Pros
I absolutely love how easy and convenient this tool is. The customer support team is also amazing whenever we need help. It just makes the whole process of writing patient charts so much easier and faster.

Yeah, it freezes up on me every now and then but even with that little hiccup, it's still totally worth it.

Pros
I've noticed that the workflows are really solid and they keep getting better over time. The reporting works well the interfaces are user-friendly and it integrates smoothly with other systems which makes everything a lot easier.

There aren't many specialty areas in the system, which can be a bit limiting for what we need.

Pros
I'm really happy to have such great support from NextGen. Anytime I've needed assistance, they've been there for me and I can count on them to get things resolved quickly.
Cons
We've had some struggles with the RCM services from 2017 to 2023 and honestly, working with NextGen IT on our interface connections in 2022-2023 was frustrating.

“Reliable EMR but still making improvements
Pros
I really appreciate the breadth of the solution, it covers so many different aspects of what we need. Overall it feels like a complete solution.
Cons
The patient portal feels pretty basic and doesn't integrate well with the rest of the system. I think it really needs better analytics and more advanced features. Plus I feel like the architecture could use an update to be more web-based and use modern cloud technologies. Support also needs improvement.

“How NextGeN works for a medium-sized clinic
Pros
One of the best things about NextGen is the ability to fully customize templates and documents. With a bit of SQL and Crystal Reports knowledge, I can generate really meaningful, actionable reports.
Cons
Since Thoma Bravo took over, they let go of a lot of experienced support staff and it's slowed down the integration of things like Medfusion's Patient Portal. Now, it feels like a lot of support is outsourced and honestly, I don't think the technicians have the experience I need.

“Nice templates but tech support is lacking.
Pros
The ability to customize templates is definitely one of my favorite features. It's such a time-saver and really lets me make the system work exactly the way I need it to.
Cons
The number of issues that pop up on a daily basis can be really annoying. The quality of support has definitely gone downhill, especially after they let go of so many staff members. We get really frustrated when we open a support ticket, explain everything we've tried and all they send back is a basic user guide that doesn't even solve the issue.

Pros
I like how integrated we are with NextGen and over time, I've built up a solid knowledge base about it.
Cons
The quality of support has been getting worse for years. The reps keep changing and I feel like all the institutional knowledge has disappeared because of outsourcing. My team has had so many tickets go completely unanswered and when we follow up, they're just marked as known issues and forgotten about.

“19 & a half years using NextGen Enterprise
Pros
I appreciate how they stay on top of regulations and requirements. It feels like they're always trying to innovate and improve the product each year. They've nailed MIPS requirements and the workflows that help us meet those goals.
Cons
If you're hosted by NextGen like we are, there can be issues with lag. We're on a shared server with other clients, so it's not always the fastest. They also seem to rush out features without proper testing and that ends up causing problems at least once or twice a year.

“Not efficient
Pros
I like a lot of features but some things feel a bit too complicated with too many clicks. Reporting is great but I feel like it's almost there. The financial dashboard is fantastic but I wish I could easily get charges and payments in more detail to reconcile them easily. It's a good platform but still needs some fine-tuning to be really amazing. Less clicks to get things done and not having to repeat tasks across different areas would make it a lot smoother.
Cons
There are so many clicks and steps to get to what I need. The system feels outdated and it would be great if it was more streamlined.

Pros
I love how customizable and configurable it is. The fact that we can create our own templates if NextGen doesn't already have one that fits our needs is a huge bonus.

Pros
NextGen is great tool that allows us to customize it as per our needs. But for all the modifications additional investment is required or you must hire a programmer who knows the process or pay for the services.

“Top-notch and affordable
Pros
As per my experience I found NextGen easy to maneuver. Plus it has high-quality functionality and wide range of integration platforms. Also the software is easy to customize and has proven to be very useful for us.
Cons
The aesthetics of the software is not the best. As an outdated 32-bit application, we feel like it needs a modern update something similar to EPIC software. Plus its interface feels a bit clunky which requires more clicks compared to other EMR systems. Additionally the permission settings could benefit from a thorough overhaul to prevent potential mistakes.

This EHR software not only caters to all aspects of our EHR and administrative tasks in medical practices but also saves our providers time which eventually allow them to focus towards patient care.
