“Slow support”
Pros
The platform itself was cloud based and it let me enter information through free text without much trouble.
Cons
Getting help turned into a long process. I had to keep following up with my regional representative just to get a response and he seemed like he didn't have time to deal with my issue. I was planning to retire so I needed my records archived but the support experience fell apart across departments. My representative and the technical backup team from NextGen didn't coordinate with billing and billing's perspective was that I should have notified them sooner to avoid staying in the yearly billing cycle. It quickly became clear that the departments weren't communicating with each other. Billing could have used the phone calls and emails I'd already exchanged with two other departments and then closed my account within a month or two but instead they charged me for the entire year.

“Powerful But Steep Learning Curve”
Pros
NextGen stands out for its robustness and high level of customization, making it a versatile EHR and practice management suite. Hosting it on premise with a powerful SQL server enhances its performance.
Cons
The software has a challenging learning curve, and its advisable to have an onsite Subject Matter Expert SME. Licensing costs are high, and it demands substantial server and PC resources for optimal performance.

“Very intuitive healthcare EMR”
Pros
NextGen impresses me with its intuitive user interface, catering to new users. It offers various approaches and tabs to suit different user preferences, making it favored by many ophthalmic clinics.
Cons
Integrating glasses prescriptions and optical sales within the same EMR system would improve efficiency, as the current setup can lead to issues with charting.

“NextGen Healthcare”
Pros
NextGens cloudbased nature, comprehensive integration of clinical and billing aspects, regular updates, and responsive customer support contribute to a generally positive experience.
Cons
The user interface on the clinical side has room for improvement. Frequent downtime incidents, even if less consistent than before, still impact office operations.

Pros
NextGen Office is my favorite software because I like it for its ease of completing patient notes during examinations.
Cons
Occasional slowness and screen freezes during peak global usage times are noted issues. Furthermore, customized reports are reported to be malfunctioning.

“How I spent my summer vacation OR Why I like my Nextgen Software program”
Pros
NextGen Office's design by physicians in the SOAP format offers an intuitive experience. It is praised for its support for freelancing the subjective paragraph and excellent tech support.
Cons
The software lacks a 5-day option in the Rx number of days section and the absence of integration for glasses prescriptions and optical sales in one EMR system is noted.

“its great”
Pros
It's nice that they act as their own clearinghouse. That setup lets me retrieve the data and access the EOB directly which cuts down a ton of time.
Cons
That said, the alerting could be much better this app really needs a more obvious, pop up, in your face notification system. Right now, their alerts feel very poorly designed.

“helps us”
Pros
Being able to add an alert directly in a patient's chart is a huge win. It lets the biller or front/back office immediately see if there are any account concerns, like copays or insurance eligibility issues. The Success Community is also a solid resource whenever you run into questions or notice an error responses come quickly and you can even label how urgent the problem is. Overall, it keeps everyone aligned and reduces the back and forth when something doesn't look right.
Cons
One scheduling snag, when a date of service is marked as rescheduled, that status doesn't appear as rescheduled to the doctor. The doctor then assumes the patient was actually seen on the original date and moves forward with creating notes. After the note is finalized, when the biller submits claims, it may end up showing up incorrectly as a claim.

“user-friendly tool”
Pros
It feels user friendly and simple to work with and the support team is consistently available. Whenever issues come up, responses are quick and help is right there.
Cons
There's a bit of an initial learning curve when getting started and self training is needed to get fully comfortable with the software.

“fast scheduling and billing”
Pros
The appointment scheduling and billing section is genuinely solid and doesn't take much time to work through.
Cons
Reporting side feels limited there aren't enough options to customize reports for specific needs, like generating a patient focused report for a particular time frame. Also, there's no way to write off an entire patient balance at once. Instead, you have to shift each individual charge from insurance to the patient and then write off each charge separately which ends up being pretty time consuming.

“quick to learn”
Pros
System is simple to pick up and easy to use day to day so getting started didn't take long at all.
Cons
I'm not happy with the end of night reports. It would make more sense if all payments were entered in the system that day, instead of only showing payments tied to patients being checked in or out. Also, the statements don't break down how payments were made (like check vs. cash vs. credit card). The app says you can edit payments but that feature doesn't actually work when something needs changing you have to void the payment and post it again.

“incredible results”
Pros
Built in ROS and exams let me connect my immunizations right away which saves a lot of time.
Cons
Copying notes from a previous visit isn't available so if I need to adjust details for the current note, I have to hunt back through the prior OV to make sure the hx flows better. Also, labs can't be linked into an OV.

“Helpful support”
Pros
The support team was genuinely helpful in getting everything set up and running. I also appreciate that the software is cloud based so I can log in from anywhere and all my information stays stored in the cloud. When issues pop up, I've noticed they're sometimes resolved automatically without needing a call which is a nice surprise.
Cons
A few of the form fields could be more user friendly entering certain details feels a bit dated. For example, phone numbers and Social Security numbers require moving through fields in a specific order (like going from area code to zip code and then to the next field) rather than letting you skip ahead directly. I don't have much comparison since I haven't used other electronic health systems yet.
