“I have used NextGen for 14 years. I love the product. It keeps evolving to meet our needs.
Pros
The availability of more robust billing features and continuous addition of clinical content contribute to exceptional patient care.
Cons
The software can be slow at times especially when dealing with larger organizations. Additionally the women's health templates require improvements to better suit our needs.

“Too many clicks cause frustration
Pros
If I had to choose one thing I appreciate about it, I'd say it's how well organized everything is.
Cons
I find myself doing so many clicks that my hand actually starts to ache.

“Uncomplicated and simple to learn
Pros
NextGen Healthcare is a user-friendly, uncomplicated tool to operate and it was really simple for me to learn how to use.
Cons
A drawback I have noticed is that, despite the electronic medical system being user-friendly, too few healthcare organizations adopt it and that lack of widespread use makes sharing patient information and communicating between systems difficult.

“Good practice management, poor scalability
Pros
the Practice Management part of NextGen meets our needs and requirements well. I have heard mixed reactions about the EHR side, though we offset some of the criticism by using customized templates on a regular basis.
Cons
Scalability has been a struggle for us and the company's invoicing is overly complex indeed.

“Practical all-in-one community tool
Pros
According to me NextGen has been a practical, user-friendly software application for our community pharmacies and even some hospitals. I also like that it's well-built and HIPAA-compliant, serving as an all in one tool. The interface is pretty easy to navigate and offers useful customization options.
Cons
Occasionally the system runs slowly and demands support or periodic maintenance which has on a few occasions delayed my workflow and set me behind schedule.

“Quick and simple but have so many steps
Pros
I am really happy with this software as it's quick to respond and simple to use.
Cons
There are a lot of needless steps to complete and I'd prefer having everything visible on a single page.

“Powerful with handy interface tools
Pros
It was pretty easy to pick up most features and the interface tools are genuinely handy. Plus it performs really well when working with patients and overall I consider it a powerful product.
Cons
There are times when I find that some features require a fair amount of practice to use simply. For instance, locating patients based on a particular condition isn't very easy at first.

“Quick access to medical backgrounds
Pros
As a dentist I really like how quickly I can switch from Dentrix to NextGen to pull up a patient's medical background. Diagnosis lists, current medications, allergies and lab results appear in seconds. Because of this I rarely have to request a lengthy medical consult just to find something simple like an A1c result which saves time for everyone.
Cons
There are times I run into glitches with the program. For instance it can be frustrating to search for patients when birth dates and Social Security numbers are very similar and locating the correct record becomes difficult. It also isn't always obvious whether someone is already a patient of record which occasionally leaves me uncertain about how to proceed.

“Impeccable scheduling module and billing system
Pros
It is a well-built system offering a variety of approaches to schedule patients. There are some plug-in providers that get along with it, there can be numerous integrations into the framework making the client experience pleasant. It offers optional tools you can purchase to upgrade connection with patients for example, a Patient Portal. The system is solid and is well integrated with the EHR Nextgen product.
Cons
The billing system is however spot on, its layout is very hard to navigate. You have to be well equipped with the ways to work around it. You cannot be expected to operate it without proper training since it is a complex system. The sum cost of services employed is very high.

“Makes my job pretty stress free
Pros
Using it makes my job pretty stress free. Also I see real improvements in the revenue cycle while achieving better patient outcomes at lower cost. I also love its value-based care approach overall.
Cons
I haven't run into many aspects of NextGen that bother me. The main challenge I face is carving out enough time to properly train staff so they can use the system effectively.
