“Always entering tickets and waiting”
Pros
There are multiple areas within NextGen to enter data. The ability to create and use templates is appreciated as is the drug reconciliation feature. On the PM side the reporting and flexibility are valued. Task management is also useful and could be implemented further. Improving file maintenance would be helpful for review and continuous updates.
Cons
Due to the complexity of the workflow in various areas the system does not always function smoothly. To support clients offering more training and best practices would be beneficial for issue resolution.

“Great moving into the future”
Pros
The software's reporting ability and data retrieval capabilities are crucial for meeting the needs of an FQHC and providing better patient service. Accurate data retrieval for various reports is essential.
Cons
Improved understanding and capabilities for retrieving information for FQHC reporting are needed. There should be better reporting statistics.

“I manage Behavioral Health in primary care at an FQHC”
Pros
The fact that a majority of FQHCs use the software helps establish a common language among other BH programs.
Cons
The difficulty in customizing the software and the loss of customizations during upgrades are major drawbacks. Having used NextGen at three FQHCs I have consistently faced challenges in getting my customizations accepted.

“an easy transition and flow”
Pros
The ease of access and appealing appearance are highly regarded. The software allows for completing all necessary workflow functions efficiently.
Cons
The ability to edit templates based on specialty is problematic. As a practice with multiple specialties it is complicated to meet the unique needs of each clinic without investing significant time and effort.

“Used by our FQHC. Lots of clicks but seems to be improving.”
Pros
The ability to save exam templates and phrases send them directly to the patient portal and various workflow options are notable features.
Cons
There are numerous clicks required and the separation of history from the SOAP note necessitates switching between windows during documentation. Tasking for handcuffs is fast and convenient but telephone tasking (which becomes part of the patient chart) is more cumbersome.

“I have used NextGen for 14 years. I love the product. It keeps evolving to meet our needs.”
Pros
The availability of more robust billing features and continuous addition of clinical content contribute to exceptional patient care.

“Uncomplicated and simple to learn”
Pros
NextGen Healthcare is a user-friendly, uncomplicated tool to operate and it was really simple for me to learn how to use.
Cons
A drawback I have noticed is that, despite the electronic medical system being user-friendly, too few healthcare organizations adopt it and that lack of widespread use makes sharing patient information and communicating between systems difficult.

“Good practice management, poor scalability”
Pros
the Practice Management part of NextGen meets our needs and requirements well. I have heard mixed reactions about the EHR side, though we offset some of the criticism by using customized templates on a regular basis.
Cons
Scalability has been a struggle for us and the company's invoicing is overly complex indeed.

“Practical all-in-one community tool”
Pros
According to me NextGen has been a practical, user-friendly software application for our community pharmacies and even some hospitals. I also like that it's well-built and HIPAA-compliant, serving as an all in one tool. The interface is pretty easy to navigate and offers useful customization options.
Cons
Occasionally the system runs slowly and demands support or periodic maintenance which has on a few occasions delayed my workflow and set me behind schedule.

“Powerful with handy interface tools”
Pros
It was pretty easy to pick up most features and the interface tools are genuinely handy. Plus it performs really well when working with patients and overall I consider it a powerful product.
Cons
There are times when I find that some features require a fair amount of practice to use simply. For instance, locating patients based on a particular condition isn't very easy at first.

“Quick access to medical backgrounds”
Pros
As a dentist I really like how quickly I can switch from Dentrix to NextGen to pull up a patient's medical background. Diagnosis lists, current medications, allergies and lab results appear in seconds. Because of this I rarely have to request a lengthy medical consult just to find something simple like an A1c result which saves time for everyone.
Cons
There are times I run into glitches with the program. For instance it can be frustrating to search for patients when birth dates and Social Security numbers are very similar and locating the correct record becomes difficult. It also isn't always obvious whether someone is already a patient of record which occasionally leaves me uncertain about how to proceed.
