“Highly customizable for rheumatology”
Pros
I really appreciate how customizable NextGen is. Working in a rheumatology clinic, we've relied on NextGen for the last six years and my overall impression has been positive. Even though the platform didn't come preconfigured for our specialty, I managed to build and tweak templates myself to match our workflow without much trouble.
Cons
Sometimes the system feels stubborn. I have faceed SQL errors fairly often and while those problems might stem from our hosting rather than the application itself we're not certain, they haven't been a major disruption overall, so they haven't seriously impacted our day-to-day operations.

“Comprehensive with lots of pop ups”
Pros
This system has everything necessary for eye care including optical insurance billing patient portal and emailed prescriptions.
Cons
Often I find myself entering the same information multiple times across different templates or sections to fulfill meaningful use requirements. Its frustrating that one answer doesnt populate all the necessary fields.

NextGen allows us to tailor templates documents and reports to our clinics workflow. The Cardiology templates provide a quick overview of a patients cardiac history and procedures. Participating in weekly focus group meetings helps shape future product development.

“20 Years with the same Electonic Medical Record - NextGen”
Pros
We started using NextGen long before the era of mandates for electronic medical records. The systems flexibility allowed physicians to practice as they preferred. Adapting to Meaningful Use regulations required some adjustment but overall the experience has been positive since 1996.
Cons
My schedule often doesnt align with NextGens support schedule. As a nurse practitioner with limited administrative time I struggle to find opportunities to seek support.

Medical Practice, 500+ employees
“Extremely slow”
Pros
it managed to finish the key tasks before the Patient Portal went live, successfully delivering the CCD, ADT and appointment data files and they also assisted with setting up Direct.
Cons
We found it extremely slow to address our needs, often taking ages even to assign a team member to an issue. Ultimately we only got the feeds integrated into the product thanks to the third-party assistance from TempDev and their unresponsiveness forced us to rely heavily on TempDev's external team for troubleshooting and implementation support.
