I used this on a couple of my external rotations in school.

Pros

I love that you can freely type anything, which removes the annoyance of clicking different boxes.

Cons

I do not like the way you have to go back through old exams. I think it could be made a lot simpler than it is now to see previous exams.

Use for scheduling

Pros

We use it for scheduling at our clinic. The scheduling is HIPAA compliant as well. It isn’t cost-effective at all for a person who is a solo practitioner like me. You can access from anywhere as it is cloud-based, this helps me remotely access my schedule when not at work. I would love to use all the features of product, but after I properly get started.

Cons

There aren’t any complaints as such about this product.

Our clinic used the free component for scheduling

Pros

It ensures HIPAA compliance for scheduling and offers remote access to check your schedule when not at work. It helped our office manager coordinate multiple clinicians' schedules.

Cons

Our clinic did not opt to pay for this service, which would allow us to chart! I wish they did as paper notes are the worst! No real complaints about this software.

Acceptable product while it was free but now.....

Pros

It used to be free, and I liked the ability to create my own templates. E-prescribing was straightforward, and entering lab orders and integrating lab results was smooth.

Cons

They went from being free to charging the full amount annually in advance. This price increase has shut out many small solo practices. The cost is for one physician license plus three additional licensed employees. Wouldn't it be fairer if the cost was truly per user? I do not want to subsidize larger offices. Customer service has been horrible since late last year. The provided templates are of very low quality, including lots of misspelled words. There are new spaces for LGBTQ data but nothing for advance care planning and limited space to provide emergency contacts. Not very easy to use for documenting geriatric patients. No structured section for preventive care with reminders when overdue. The immunization section was not updated routinely, like with new herpes zoster guidelines. Making a lab result flowsheet was terrible. Everything was la carte: needed a separate clearinghouse for billing, had to purchase additional documents, etc. Hopefully, they will come up with a different pricing structure. I have gone elsewhere for now but might return if its cheaper. They should charge people for using MIPS separately. Why should I have to pay for the tech development of features I don't use when basic items are missing?

User Friendly Software

Pros

Learning this software for my new job was a breeze. I love how I can easily switch between tabs and scan files to store them electronically.

Cons

The only thing I can think of is it would be nice to scan files directly into the program instead of scanning, saving to the PC, then uploading. Other than that, all is good!

Practice Fusion

Pros

It is relatively easy to use, and we continue using it because we started when it was free. It's good for the price.

Cons

Occasionally, there are software issues with uploading size, organizing documents, and not being able to see past and current results simultaneously. The software looks and feels old and outdated.

It is always easy to use! I have no complaints from my staff, who find it very intuitive all the time.

Cons

We have no current cons. We are happy with the product and would definitely recommend it in the future.

Practice Fusion is perfect, for some practices

Pros

I loved the features, and its low cost to consumers is always a pro! Its easy to get started and onboard the team, with lots of functionality.

Cons

It is just okay; it is not the best we have ever worked with. It is difficult to access through our phones, and it was not the most pleasant interface experience.

Practice Fusion was only okay because it was free

Pros

It used to be free, but not anymore. Customer service is quite good, and it is compatible with Updox.

Cons

It takes a million steps to accomplish a small goal. No ability to use Quixx to chart, so everything must be typed out. Templates are not easy to construct.

Not a Good Choice for Mental Health Professionals

Pros

It allowed me to use it at no charge for many years, which was helpful for me as a solo practitioner with high overhead costs.

Cons

This software is not built with mental health in mind. There is no way to customize the interface for my specific needs. There were a lot of annoying pop-ups that did not apply to mental health providers. The most frustrating thing was working with the calendar. It was impossible to review my schedule on my mobile phone because the calendar was not optimized for mobile. The client search feature did not work well. No matter how many times I typed in certain clients' names, the search box would not recognize or find them. Also, there was no quick way to add a client unless I had all the pertinent client data on hand. Most solo MH providers are wearing all the (hats) in the practice and are trying to schedule new clients in the one or two minutes they have between sessions. Sometimes all we have is a name and contact number. My biggest complaint is that client data cannot be exported via CSV or Excel format. This is a big issue when you have to change software.

Pros

I customized templates myself to optimize the charting workflow, which was much more efficient and accurate than the new EHR I started using. I only needed charting and billing for exam payment before, but now I need a full EHR for dispensing and inventory management. PF stopped offering the free version just as I needed these features. I can still view my previous charting and appointment records, which is good. However, I am a bit frustrated with the new charting method and am considering keeping both EHRs for peace of mind.

Cons

Obviously not free anymore. Free forever? I didn't even believe it from the beginning. It sounds right to get paid by advertisement, but it is not something that is sufficient and guaranteed forever.

Review

Pros

It is a good software, you can easily customize it according to your requirements. They have templates that make things easier for you like entering data or information and saves your time as well. I needed the charting and billing functionality before but now I also need the dispensary and inventory managing functionality. I have to use the complete EMR for my practice to get the best of it. After quite a while Practice Fusion stopped offering the free version, but I still don’t use the paid version. Even though I don’t use the paid version I am glad that I can still access the charting and appointments and patient records through the free version.

Cons

It isn’t free anymore. We might have thought of it to be free forever, but we all are wrong here. It is weird when you don’t pay at first and now you have to pay for it.

NOT for mental health

Pros

It didn’t cost me at all for all the years that I used it, which was very helpful and reasonable for me being a solo practitioner. There are other EMRs out there that cost you a lot even when the system is not working right for you, so in this regard this is a great system, which you can use without paying.

Cons

The system is not at all for mental health professionals. I tried to customize it according to my needs but even then, it didn’t work for me. It has not been designed keeping mental health in mind, so if you are someone working in mental health you need to find something else for you, as this is what I have done. I’ve looked for other EMRs and they suit my practice much better, and work for me better than Practice Fusion. I am sure Practice Fusion would work better for practices that it was made for.

I worked with this system at a contact lens practice. I really liked it.

Pros

I like this system because it is very intuitive. I can copy and paste from previous exams and easily review past exams.

Cons

I do not like that the exam form or patient information does not carry over from the previous exam.

NOT EXTREMELY COMPLICATED TO USE BUT NOT SIMPLE OR VERY EASY TO USE EITHER

Pros

It used to be free, but now there is a charge. They offer online chat for questions, but it is sometimes not easy to use.

Cons

They now charge per provider and do not teach how to achieve credits under MIPS by clicking the right choices on the screen. This product has a lot of options, but you don't know if you are clicking the right button until much later, no immediate feedback. Patients mention that this program made the patient portal difficult to establish and open, which is required for EHR MIPS reporting this year. This is a huge downside, especially for the older population who are not computer savvy.

Practice Fusion Free

Pros

There's no cost for the basic service. You see ads, but they're not intrusive. It works well for a small practice.

Cons

It was not well-suited for pediatrics. The templates did not meet our office needs. Improvements may have been made since I last used this software.

now expensive EHR for features

Pros

I used to love PF because it was free and easy to fax or email chart notes to other providers. It had easily customizable templates, could integrate billing, and helped catch chart notes with no superbill submitted quite easily.

Cons

I do not like the new pricing structure. It is much more expensive than similar EHRs, and the interface is not as nice or as easy to use across different devices.

A bit much but comprehensive

Pros

I never have trouble finding a spot to put information. The ability to see past appointments is great. I also enjoy the pin function for keeping up with important info.

Cons

It demands too much. It would be nice to disable unneeded sections of the charts. You can't see which doctor the past appointments were with.

Great software considering that it is free.

Pros

It was very easy to get used to. I could autopopulate referrals and previous prescriptions, among other things. Entering vitals was simple, and encounters and the superbill were easy to grasp as a beginner. The scheduler was also straightforward.

Cons

It freezes up more than it should. Entering patient demographics involves many cumbersome steps. Getting access codes for the patient portal is a bit confusing, especially for those who aren't tech-savvy. The scheduler has flaws; it's hard to learn how to double-book since it defaults to increments that might not match your practice.
