Faster documentation

Pros

Putting together visit notes is much quicker with this and it lets practitioners keep using the same terms and descriptions they've always relied on when writing their notes.

Cons

At times, my clients say they wish they had built their IT knowledge base more thoroughly from the start though they also know they can always go back and improve anything that needs a clearer description.

Evolving platform

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how it helps me refine and adjust the way I work with patients. Because of that, my notes keep getting better over time as I use the system more. On top of that, the vendor has consistently been very responsive whenever I've needed support.

Cons

My only real challenge has been getting other people trained on it. The younger crowd seems to pick it up much faster while older physicians tend to be more fixed in their habits and expect the software to support doing things the way they're already used to.

Keeps up with us

Pros

After comparing just about every EHR vendor out there, I landed on this one because it fit my clinic better than anything else. It lets me practice medicine and chart quickly especially when I need to complete complex notes without getting slowed down. One of the biggest reasons I chose it was that it can adapt as my needs change so it feels like a system I can keep growing with. It also seems to learn from the way I work instead of forcing me to adjust to it which has made a huge difference day to day. Overall, choosing it has been one of the best decisions I've made for the clinic. My favorite thing about it is the 100% customizability and it's very user-friendly when I'm right in front of patients which makes my workday a lot easier.

Cons

There really isn't much for me to complain about. Like any system, it's not perfect but the more I use it, the better it fits the way I work and the more it benefits my clinic.

Adaptive charting

Pros

One thing that really stands out is how the system can be taught to chart the way each physician prefers. The more it gets used, the more it seems to learn and adapt. Every provider can tailor the settings, language, assessments and plans to match their own style. It fits into the way a clinic already operates while helping improve workflow and overall office performance.

Cons

I really do not have any major complaints and plenty of others I know seem to feel the same way.

Finally the right fit

Pros

Being able to chart the way I actually want has been incredibly satisfying especially after dealing with endless dropdowns in our previous system. It's much faster and for the first time in my career I'm finishing my charts right in the exam room. Templates might be fine for practices that only handle a limited set of diagnoses but that's not how our office works since we manage a wide range of customized tests and treatment plans. This system picked up on all of that and even more. I've also started documenting things I never used to include before and those notes automatically go out as alerts to my staff whenever follow-up is needed. It's honestly difficult to explain because so many other EHRs seem identical on the surface so if you can, make sure to see this one in action live or in person.

Cons

One thing to watch for is making sure your billing company, labs and related partners are up to date. Our billing setup was outdated and that made the linking process more difficult than it should have been.

Happier office workflow

Pros

Right away, this software made a noticeable difference in our office. It keeps everyone communicating better, prompts us to ask the right questions and makes sure we don't lose track of patient follow-ups. Patients really notice and appreciate that and it has saved us a lot of time. The biggest benefit for me is not having to stay late at the office finishing paperwork.

Cons

This isn't really a problem with the software itself but Meaningful Use can definitely be frustrating. It's worth working closely with your trainer because it can be configured to be much more automatic and manageable. We ended up wasting time trying to sort it out by ourselves.

Inventive collaboration

Pros

Using the software gets more simple over time especially now that you can view, borrow and build on ideas from other users. That's probably one of the most creative improvements they've made. The technical help and training support are incredibly strong too, they really feel like some of the best out there. My partner and I are currently learning Version 6 online with an instructor and she's actually the same person who trained me about five years ago. I'm genuinely happy she's still there; it feels like reconnecting with an old friend.

Cons

Back in the early days, around the mid-1990s, the program was pretty basic and limited to a single computer. It's amazing to see how much that has changed.

EMR flexibility win

Pros

After comparing a number of vendors, this non-template-based EMR ended up being the most sensible choice. It lets me tailor the program to fit exactly what I need which was a big advantage. A lot of the other options I looked at were limited to templates and would even charge extra for any customization.

Cons

Up to this point, nothing about using it has been disappointing or unsatisfying.

Better patient care

Pros

One thing that really stands out is how much this helps with practicing medicine. It not only speeds me up but also helps me do a better job overall. I especially appreciate being able to build a hypothetical case, add different workup and treatment suggestions and then pull that up again when I run into a similar case later.

Cons

Getting comfortable with the program did take some time at first. Still, the more I use it, the more I appreciate it and at this point I can't imagine going back to a template-based program.

Concept-driven charting

Pros

Instead of forcing you to think in templates, this system feels built around how the mind actually works. Before words or structured forms, there is a clinical concept and that idea gets connected to the diagnosis and then translated into language. At its core, it works like a concept processor which makes the link between the physician's thinking and the documentation feel much more natural. Since doctors are trained in different ways, they often approach the same diagnosis with different mental models and this system seems to account for that well. It also keeps evolving along with changes in medicine which makes it feel aligned with real clinical practice.

Cons

Like every EMR, it still has to keep up with constant and sometimes unreasonable government regulation changes. The platform was founded by an MD, Dr. Richard Low and its development has clearly been physician-directed, with doctors testing it in real clinics rather than it being designed only from a technical perspective. Even so, all of those regulatory requirements have slowed down that physician-led evolution and pushed the product to serve government bureaucracy more than the actual needs of physicians.

Outstanding flexibility

Pros

It lets every provider follow their own medical practice style when handling patient documentation and treatment protocols which makes it a really good fit for different workflows. The support and training they provide have been outstanding as well.

Cons

Honestly, there's nothing to complain about. We've been very satisfied with it.

Remembers preferences

Pros

Unlike most brainless EMRs, this one actually follows your way of thinking. It remembers what was done the last time so each day doesn't feel like you're starting from scratch again.

Cons

The biggest downside is the speed. You really need the latest SSD, a very fast processor and a strong network to keep it running well.

Excellent training

Pros

Right from the start, the customer service has been outstanding. The team is polite, responds quickly whenever I have a question and their training is better than anything I've seen from other providers. I never have to wait long to get answers and everyone is so warm and welcoming that it honestly feels like I'm talking to family.

Cons

I don't have any complaints about this product.

Chronic care standout

Pros

Charting moves quickly and the way it handles chronic conditions is excellent. In our neurology and sleep clinic, we manage very complex cases that need long-term treatment and it does a really good job capturing the right diagnoses along with the proper recommendations and guidelines. It also pulls in most of the fields from previous cases which saves a lot of time since you're not re-entering the same information again and again.

Cons

Don't have much to complain about. The only adjustment is that it requires a different way of thinking compared with other EHRs I've used. The training is less about learning the buttons and features and more about figuring out how to translate your own knowledge and workflow into the system. Once that clicks and you understand that you're essentially building it around your process, it becomes very manageable.

Paperless transformation

Pros

Turning our paper forms into an electronic version was very easy. The trainers were always accessible when we needed help and I really appreciated that they used TeamViewer during the process.

Cons

Nothing specific comes to mind right away. Any software will have its challenges and the biggest one here has really been the provider deciding how they want the template to be set up.

Cross-platform charting

Pros

Working as an independent trainer with providers from all specialties, I've seen how this software lets them document in their own words and in the way that feels most natural to them which is something I haven't seen from other programs. It also runs on just about any device, whether that's an iPad, laptop, desktop or nearly any other platform. Another thing that really stands out is how well it adapts to user feedback, I've watched it incorporate suggestions in a way that most software simply doesn't.

Cons

Can't come up with any real downsides. It's incredibly versatile and does a strong job of meeting the needs of providers across a wide range of specialties.

Clinic automation win

Pros

Running a neurology practice with four part-time providers and very busy patient schedules would be much harder without this system. As the office manager, one of the biggest benefits for us has been the automation. We've been using it since 2008 and over time it has really adapted to the way our clinic operates. The more we've used it, the faster it has become and that has helped us increase the number of patients we're able to see year after year.

Cons

Honestly, there haven't been any major downsides for us because it has truly made a big difference in our practice. We did run into an issue with our old billing system but since it can work with any billing platform, their team helped us pick a better option. Since then, the office has been running very well and I especially appreciate that it works with our billing in the background.

Reliable and flexible

Pros

After 15 years of using it, I can say the support has consistently been quick and dependable. The software is very flexible and the development team has always been receptive and responsive to user ideas and suggestions.

Cons

I don't have any real complaints here; the pricing feels fair and the product itself has been excellent.

Real workflow savings

Pros

One thing that really works for me is how simple it is to use. It lets me work the way I prefer instead of forcing me through standard templates and that flexibility has made a huge difference. It has noticeably sped up my day-to-day work and ended up saving me thousands over the course of the year.

Cons

The team has been responsive whenever I reach out and I appreciate that they actually fold my suggestions into product development. My frustration is really with the government rules around what qualifies as meaningful use for EMR, not with the software itself.
