“Charting done right”

Pros

With the concept processor, documenting a standard office visit takes just one or two clicks. Since every physician has a different style of practicing and charting, the template-free EHR gives you the flexibility to document the way you prefer instead of forcing you into a system where you have to check off 100 boxes.

Cons

Honestly, it's difficult to point to any real downside. The support team is excellent and the software has clearly been built with input from practicing doctors for other doctors. They listen to suggestions from users and have made countless updates and improvements over the years I've worked with them. It really feels like they're committed to creating the best possible software for physician satisfaction and usability.

“Fast and improving”

Pros

One thing that really stands out is the speed. Tasks get completed very quickly because it takes far fewer clicks than many other EMRs I evaluated. I began using it early on, when the product was still in the first stages of development and I've seen how quickly it has improved while continuing to meet meaningful requirements very well.

Cons

Concept-based templates are also a plus since I can build them however I want.

“Smart EHR queries”

Pros

This tool feels very complete. It generates SOAP notes quickly through its non-template concept processor which is a big advantage. Since it keeps data in a relational database, everything can be reached through SQL queries. That setup, together with the wide range of practice advisories, helps the software meet Medicare Meaningful Use requirements. I also appreciate that it includes a query builder for creating custom reports while the built-in data miner offers ready-made queries that already cover Meaningful Use standards so I do not have to build them myself unless I want to. The practice advisories or Clinical Practice Guidelines, also work well as a Clinical Decision Support System. Another useful feature is dynamic fields which let me store patient-specific details like preferred language and smoking status. On top of that, the Knowledge Exchanger makes it possible to share one user's database work with another user by importing it into a different EMR setup.

Cons

There is very little here to complain about. The program has been around for 20 years and its development has continued to keep pace with the needs of a user-friendly EMR that can adapt well to many different kinds of practices.

“Physician-focused flexibility”

Pros

Right from the start, this has felt like a flexible, transparent and adaptable system that's both professional and physician-managed. Compared with other EMRs, this approach is far ahead and keeps gaining traction every day. It gives physicians room to maintain their independent thinking and to me, that's exactly what medicine should support.

Cons

Over the years, it has made it through several presidential administrations and the heavy federal regulations that came with them. Those requirements haven't hurt its quality at all; if anything, they helped drive the Concept Processor forward and made it even better than relying on templates.

“Flexible and reliable”

Pros

It's really flexible and I can pretty much always figure out a way to make it do what I need.

Cons

Getting the billing interface set up and running took longer than expected but once it was in place, it worked really well.

“Family practice fit”

Pros

It really works well to document a patient's medical record in my own words and in my usual practice style. It adapts very well across different medical specialties and for Family Practice in particular, it helps me thoroughly and efficiently document multiple chronic conditions.

Cons

I don't have any complaints about the product or the vendor's service. Support, training and ongoing product improvements have all been handled very well.

“Affordable practice solution”

Pros

One of the biggest advantages for me has been the price and the support. I also appreciate that it isn't built around limited templates so I could configure it to match the way I actually practice medicine instead of being forced into whatever structure some software designer thinks a medical practice should follow.

Cons

At times, it can be a little hard to figure out. It also takes a significant amount of time upfront to set everything up the way you want but that investment does pay off later on.

“Unique and responsive”

Pros

This doesn't feel like a template at all and the tech support team is quick to respond whenever needed.

Cons

There was one small miscommunication with tech support but aside from that, I absolutely love it.
