“Lots of poorly thought software logic - Gusto unwilling to fix”
Pros
The Gusto wallet is excellent for tracking time and the HR team is responsive to questions.
Cons
There are several broken logic issues in the system and updates sometimes cause unexpected problems. Compliance with California labor law is also lacking.

“Don't Waste Your Time - Either pay for Pro or Don't choose Gusto”

I appreciate that Gusto handles filing payroll tax forms.

Customer service is terrible with long wait times and language barriers. An issue with payroll blockage due to a software error remains unresolved.

“Support needs work”
Pros
I'm glad they handle filing the payroll tax forms for you because that part helps take a big administrative load off.
Cons
Customer support has been a mess... very long wait times and it's been frustrating trying to get help from representatives who don't seem to be fluent in English as a first language. There also doesn't feel like there's any real commitment to seeing problems through to a resolution. One of my clients had payroll blocked due to an error in Gusto's system, it flagged that I wasn't paying the bill but it turned out to be a software issue on Gusto's side and there was nothing I could do to correct it. I contacted them at the very start of the month and was told it would be fixed in a few days. By month-end, the problem still wasn't resolved so I called again and was told they'd open a ticket. A week later, the issue was still unresolved.... and as of me writing this, it hasn't been sorted out yet. The bigger problem is that none of this was caused by my client or by me yet the client ended up paying the price since we couldn't process payroll on time. No one escalated it or took ownership to get it resolved. If you have a dedicated account rep, I've heard things work better but without that, it feels like a risky purchase. It turned out to be one of the costliest mistakes I've seen (besides maybe choosing QuickBooks Payroll instead).

“onboarding made simple”
Pros
Being able to onboard new hires is a huge help. It saves a lot of time and I don't have to stress about staying compliant or chasing down the latest paperwork. The system handles the tax payments and generates the W2s automatically which genuinely makes my day-to-day a lot easier. Thanks for that!
Cons
The initial transfer was a bit bumpy, with a few glitches along the way. Once those issues were sorted out, the whole process settled down and runs fairly smoothly.

“convenient to use”
Pros
Standout part of this tool for us is that our clients genuinely find it simple to use and they've been really pleased after switching from their previous payroll providers. It's been a smooth transition overall and the feedback we get has been consistently positive.
Cons
We did run into some support and setup headaches in early 2021 when we were trying to get help onboarding our small business clients but those problems have been largely fixed since then.

“quite affordable”
Pros
It's really quick to use and the pricing feels reasonable. The platform includes a complete set of benefits like a 401(k), health insurance and other perks all in one place which makes setup and day-to-day management much simpler.
Cons
Feature-wise it's strong but the HR tools could be more capable especially the document section. Organizing files there could use a better system or workflow to make it more adaptive.
