Gusto is the ally you require to develop and support your team.

Pros

Managing payroll and onboarding new contractors and employees is incredibly straightforward with Gusto.

Cons

The service is lacking when faced with complications, especially regarding state tax filings. Gusto's response to urgent tax issues from the state was unsatisfactory. Although they offered to cover any fines resulting from delays, this approach is not ideal.

Gusto payroll review

Pros

Gusto seamlessly integrates with QuickBooks Online and simplifies the onboarding process for new clients/employees.

Cons

The reports are complex to decipher, and I've struggled to find what I need. I'm not a fan of how their journal entries function.

Practical and easy to use

Pros

Using Gusto as a contractor was a breeze in terms of setup and usability.

Cons

The process was a bit convoluted, but I managed to figure it out after consulting support.

Made work easier

Pros

Switching to Gusto from ADP felt surprisingly painless. The platform is simple to manage both as an admin and as an employee. After moving over, we've cut down a ton of those repetitive chores... like constantly updating employee contact details and handling bank information changes... because employees can update what they need themselves. Staff members can log into their accounts anytime to make updates and the mobile app is also simple enough that our team actually uses it regularly.

Cons

The one snag is that the app doesn't include every feature available on the website. A few employees prefer using only the mobile app and often ask us to update items that they can't change unless they use the website.

Pros

Processing payroll and managing W2s and 1099s for tax filing is straightforward and affordable for small businesses.

Cons

There's nothing to dislike about the payroll software. It streamlines my job, and customer service promptly resolves any issues.

my review...

Pros

Coming in as a first time payroll administrator, I really enjoy using this platform. The interface is simple to learn and the support team has been genuinely helpful throughout.

Cons

One thing I'd change, there's no option to terminate an employee while still paying out over an extended period without manually figuring out the calculations. That workaround takes extra effort.

easy setup payroll but law reminders

Pros

Using it has felt simple and it's been a big help since I stopped trying to handle everything on my own years ago. The team has consistently been very responsive and supportive which made the whole transition a lot smoother.

Cons

Navigation can be a little tricky at first until you learn where everything is. Also, as the company has grown, it's taken longer to reach customer service and getting problems resolved can be more difficult than it used to be.

Basic and broken

Pros

Gusto handles the absolute basics smoothly but falls short compared to competitors in every other aspect.

Cons

Gusto resembles a wedding planner with 10 Instagram-worthy wedding packages to choose from. If you desire something elegant yet straightforward with no customizations, you'll adore it. However, complications arise when you wish to expand beyond the usual, like having more bridesmaids, choosing an unfamiliar venue, or incorporating new traditions. Gusto struggles with these, turning them into messy situations. While it handles the basics well, venturing off the beaten path can lead to regrets, especially with its customer service.

No Customer Support

Pros

It has the potential to be a great product, but unfortunately, the customer support is lacking.

Cons

They failed to pay my taxes, resulting in penalties that I had to cover myself. Despite multiple attempts to contact them, they have provided zero assistance. Integration issues with QuickBooks were also blamed on the software.

terrible support

Pros

It might work as a product but the customer support experience has been rough.

Cons

They didn't pay my taxes when they were supposed to. I ended up covering the taxes myself and I also got hit with a penalty because the payment wasn't handled. Since then, I've reached out 10 times total (email and phone combined) and the only response I've gotten has been promises, no real help. They're still holding onto my money for the tax payment while refusing to call me back. Also, the integration with QuickBooks failed and it blamed the issue on QuickBooks.

not recommended

Pros

Looks nice and handles the absolute basics without any issues. It really does meet the "pretty" and simple requirements reliably which is probably the biggest reason people talk about it at all.

Cons

It feels like a wedding planner offering several Instagram-friendly, pre-packaged options. If you only need something that's visually appealing and cookie-cutter with minimal customization, it may work well for you. Once you need anything outside the standard setup... like adding more "bridesmaids" than usual (i.e., changing roles or structure), selecting a venue it hasn't worked with, booking catering earlier than their usual schedule or incorporating religious traditions it isn't familiar with, the whole process falls apart. Support doesn't seem equipped to handle those edge cases, they try but it turns into a frustrating mess and you end up wishing you had never started. Overall, it's hard to find many HR tools/providers that care about all parts of HR without eventually causing regret. Most businesses want at least a little flexibility and Gusto breaks down badly when things aren't perfectly standard especially when customer service gets involved.

Great payroll tool

Pros

I started my job in November and used it for the last nine months. I was honestly surprised by how simple it is to track my hours and get paid. I also really like having the Gusto Wallet option, having a separate card and savings account linked to my payroll makes everything feel more organized. Compared to the other tools I've used on previous jobs, it is on a different level and actually competes.

Cons

My role rounds time by 15 minutes but I can't enter those rounded minutes at the exact time I clock out. The system won't let me log future hours so I end up wishing there were an option to handle small increments like that... especially for cases where rounding kicks in right after I leave.

Pros

It's user-friendly. I switched from trying to manage everything myself years ago, and Gusto has been incredibly helpful.

Cons

It can be challenging to navigate at times until you become accustomed to it. As they've expanded, getting in touch with customer service and resolving issues has become more difficult.

Essential for Small Businesses

Pros

Gusto's ease of use simplifies payroll and employee onboarding, and although their customer service dipped briefly, it has since improved.

Cons

I wish scheduling and time tracking were included to avoid using separate software and integrating them.

Payroll Made Easy

Pros

Gusto offers many useful features, including the ability to manage payroll, hiring, and tax information from anywhere. Reminder emails and individual accounts for staff streamline processes, making direct deposit a time-saving convenience.

Cons

Integrating with Gusto was smooth, though reaching a live person for help can be challenging.

tax compliance handled well

Pros

Setup is simple and it works well for a typical small business owner. It also takes care of the tax documents and helps keep everything compliant so you're not scrambling at the last minute.

Cons

No real features stood out as a downside.. everything from payroll to onboarding to tax compliance felt well covered and the whole process stayed simple.

easy to use

Pros

This feels really simple and gets the job done efficiently. It's honestly a refreshing change in today's digital landscape, everything flows without feeling overcomplicated.

Cons

On the mid tier plans, there's no room to reach a representative. I was hoping to discuss my filings with a live person but instead the only option I get is email follow-ups after my ticket has been responded to and when that response comes through.

Great tool for payroll management!

Pros

Transitioning from ADP to Gusto was seamless. The software is user-friendly for both admins and employees. Since switching, we've significantly reduced tedious tasks like updating employee information, thanks to Gusto's intuitive platform. The mobile app is also incredibly user-friendly and widely used by our employees.

Cons

My only gripe is that the app lacks some features available on the website. Many employees prefer using the app and request updates to match the website's functionality.
