How does eClinicalWorks Work?

eClinicalWorks is designed to help healthcare providers manage patient information, schedule appointments, document patient visits, prescribe medications, and perform other tasks related to managing a healthcare practice. Here's a general overview of how eClinicalWorks works:

  • Patient information is entered into the system by the healthcare provider or office staff. This includes demographic information, medical history, and insurance information
  • The healthcare provider uses the system to document patient visits, including assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans
  • The system generates electronic progress notes, which can be used to track the patient's treatment over time
  • The system can be used to prescribe medications, which can be sent directly to the pharmacy
  • The system can be used to schedule appointments and send appointment reminders to patients
  • The system can also be used to track patient billing and insurance claims, as well as manage financial reports and other business-related tasks

Overall, eClinicalWorks is designed to help healthcare providers streamline their workflow and improve the quality of care they provide to patients.

Who is eClinicalWorks For?

eClinicalWorks is used by a wide range of healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, specialty care physicians, hospitals, health centers, and other facilities. It is designed to meet the needs of a variety of medical practices, including solo practices, small to medium-sized groups, and larger healthcare systems.
The platform is also well-suited for primary care practices, as it includes tools for managing patient demographics, medical histories, appointment scheduling, e-prescribing, and electronic progress notes. Is eClinicalWorks Right for You?

eClinicalWorks is a popular EHR software widely-used in the healthcare industry, with a range of features spanning from population health management to customized patient portals. The platform is compatible with Mac, Chrome, and Window browsers, and is also accessible on mobile devices.
Many user reviews have recommended the software for its overall functionality and comprehensive tools, noting how easy it is to fill out notes, auto-populate data, code for medical billing, and handle messaging and e-prescriptions. In addition, many doctors have found the appointment scheduling feature beneficial, as it allows them to see which patients will be coming in each day with ease.
However, some have pointed out the eClinicalWorks’ user interface to be rather cluttered or confusing, making it more difficult for first-time users to navigate. There is also no easy way to track the authorization process.

This EMR is functional and contributes to productivity, offering a fairly intuitive experience.

Cons

Unfortunately, discontinuing services with this EMR has proven to be a significant challenge. Pros

Using the software, I found it helpful to order labs, imaging, and connect to diagnoses. The ICD 10 generator was useful, and the notes section adequately allowed me to document onset and workup.

Cons

Unfortunately, building the physical exam and review of systems from scratch while interviewing the patient was not easy and relied heavily on templates. The developers frequently changed the layout and appearance without improving functionality, which created new problems with each update. The software lacks seamless integration for quality measures and health maintenance, requiring manual input. Additionally, there were many patches and quirks, and it seemed like user feedback from physicians or providers was not considered. The program also had issues with frequent freezing.

Pros

One positive aspect was the follow-up on problem resolutions. They made an effort to check if the issues were resolved.

Cons

The invoicing process should be approached with caution. It involves a complex procedure and time element when terminating a provider. They even require an interview with the terminating medical provider. All notifications must be within a certain timeframe, and any mistakes can result in continued invoicing for the terminating provider.
