NetDocuments is a cloud-native document management system built for law firms. It helps legal teams organize documents and stay compliant. Some users note that email integration can take time to configure, while search and document retrieval are widely praised. In May 2026, NetDocuments launched a legal context graph that maps relationships across documents and matters to enrich legal AI context.
Our Verdict
NetDocuments is best suited for law firms, in-house legal departments, and public sector legal teams handling large volumes of sensitive documents. While smaller firms generally report good value, some larger organizations note that storage costs can increase over time. We recommend it for mid-to-large legal teams that prioritize document security, compliance, and AI-driven capabilities over out-of-the-box affordability.

This comprehensive platform helps law firms and in-house legal departments streamline document organization, enhance team productivity, and maintain compliance while reducing manual administrative tasks through intelligent automation and integrated legal AI assistance.
What Is NetDocuments Best For?
The platform stands out for its ‘Ethical Walls’ functionality that lets firms set strict access boundaries at the matter or workspace level. Only authorized users can view restricted content. These controls apply consistently across the system, including AI tools. This makes the software a strong fit for firms managing conflicts of interest or confidential client separations.
How Much Does NetDocuments Cost?
NetDocuments price is estimated to range between $50 and $65/user/month. Its plans can be customized to meet the unique requirements of different organizations.
In addition to the base subscription cost, organizations should also factor in the following potential additional expenses:
- Implementation: $1,000–$5,000 for SMBs and $5,000–$20,000+ for enterprises, depending on complexity
- Custom Integration: $5,000–$30,000+

“Not Worth the Switch”
Pros
Search functionality is really great and finds what I need quickly. Saving documents is pretty easy most of the time. I appreciate how the compare feature works easily, you can use it within the system or externally if needed. Downloading email attachments is super simple and hassle free.
Cons
Setting up new clients and matters takes way too many steps compared to what I'm used to. The help function is unnecessarily complicated and hard to navigate. During migration, they didn't automatically transfer all my subfolder levels, only gave me clients and matters initially. Had to fight with them to get the rest set up which cost me extra money. When they finally created the subfolders, most only had cryptic short names instead of the descriptive ones I had before. They also created a bunch of document type folders based on old settings that I don't actually need, cluttering everything up. Now I can't figure out how to create new subfolders, save documents to existing ones, or even open them except through search. They couldn't replicate my Outlook integration that automatically deleted emails after saving them. The document list shows fewer items per page now which is really annoying. Those auto generated Doc Type folders are completely useless. I'm also concerned about storage limits and whether costs will increase as I save more files, or if I'll need to download things for offline storage. Support has been practically non existent throughout this whole process.

“slow tool and disappointing support experience”
Pros
Interface is really easy and simple for me. Having all my documents centralized in one location saves me tons of time. I can attach and send multiple documents via email with just a single click which is incredibly convenient.
Cons
The app runs pretty slow most of the time. It crashes way too often which gets really frustrating. I need a ton of bandwidth to run it properly. And don't even get me started on trying to upload documents from my computer, it's absolutely terrible and takes forever.

“Great DMs with mixed results”
Pros
It has been a game changer for our organization, dramatically enhancing how we file, store and search for documents. The improvement in our workflow efficiency has been remarkable.
Cons
I wish the Outlook plugin was stronger, I found myself constantly jumping out to the web browser way more than I wanted to (especially compared to iManage that I used before). Also the thing that bothers me is that how I have to organize everything into seperate cabinets for different matters.
