style sheets save tons of time

Pros

The style sheet creation feature saves a lot of time for me and really speeds things up.

Cons

If two style options are being used at once, it could be more obvious which one the editor is currently working in.

helpful style and consistency checks

Pros

One thing I appreciate is that I only need to run it a single time. It gives me great recommendations for improving my documents especially when editing. It also handles style and consistency for me in a way that other programs usually don't cover.

Cons

sometimes it can get stuck and the overall process may feel a bit slow.

Flawless writing support

Pros

After trying this tool once it turned out to be really helpful for me. It reviewed my grammar, punctuation and writing style very quickly and overall I had a very good experience with it.

Cons

Since I was only using the 14-day free trial I would have preferred a bit more time to properly see how well it could fit into my regular workflow.

flexible house-style formatting

Pros

How the formatting style can be adjusted worked really well for me.. and the rules can be fine-tuned to match a specific house style.

Cons

Rarely but the program can be a bit too aggressive with its suggestions and it occasionally tries to make changes that could end up being incorrect.

consistency check catches everything

Pros

Most of the time I rely on the Check Consistency feature. I use separate tools for spelling, style and grammar but this one still manages to catch mistakes for me that those other programs miss.

Cons

I still haven't figured out how to customize it the way I want yet.

Regular checking saves time!!

Pros

When I use it to proofread verbatim proceedings transcripts for stenographers I know I'm only using a small part of what the software can actually do. Even so, two features really help me speed up transcript prep before I start reading, the consistency checks and the customizable style sheets.

Cons

One area that could be more simple is setting up and editing the style sheets. I was able to work it out but it definitely took some trial and error to understand how to categorize the specific task or check I wanted. For instance, spelling quirks seem like they should go under "Preferred Spelling," but based on how I want them handled, they may actually need to be entered under "Spelling Variations."

great final editing sweep

Pros

It's been a really useful tool for me especially as a last pass on a Word document to catch things I may have overlooked. I've mostly used it for basic checks since many of my clients have custom style requirements that I still need to handle manually but it definitely does a great job for me as a final review step at the end of editing.

Cons

The biggest downside is the amount of time it takes to process and that doesn't seem to improve even when the document is 50,000 words shorter. Another frustration is that certain perfectly reasonable style choices get flagged as contradictions, like when a compound word appears hyphenated as a modifier in one place and unhyphenated as a standalone word elsewhere. I end up having to click through far too many of those. I really wish the software could recognize that kind of variation and ignore it. Since I also can't edit anything directly in the program, the slow processing becomes even more inconvenient. Sometimes it takes hours to finish and when I'm working on a tight deadline, that makes it hard to justify running it at all.

Helpful for catching hidden spaces

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how well it spots tiny hidden spaces for me between punctuation and words that are usually hard to notice.

Cons

It does miss some names now and then when they're spelled in different ways.

Perfect support for tight deadlines

Pros

Working as a freelance translator usually means dealing with very tight deadlines for me and this software helps by catching language and presentation issues before I send anything out. It picks up grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, consistency and formatting errors for me which gives me more time to focus on transferring meaning accurately from the source language to the target language, as well as checking the logic and factual content. The style guides are also very useful to me and I really value being able to create a house style for individual clients.

fantastic support for copyediting

Pros

Using this has taken a lot of stress out of my work and it's very easy to use. I rely on it as both an initial and final check when I'm copyediting or proofreading. It's especially useful that I can set up separate dictionaries for different English variants, like British, American and Canadian, as well as client-specific terminology.

Cons

Setup does take some time at the beginning since there are plenty of choices to work through and it also takes extra time for each client-specific dictionary and English variant unless you stick with the preloaded dictionary options.

Dialect support and precise checks

Pros

Being able to work with different dialects has been very useful for me. It also does a really good job for me catching stray gaps at the ends of lines and spotting inconsistencies with hyphenation and spelling.

Cons

I honestly haven't run into any issues while using it and no drawbacks come to mind.

consistent edits and big time savings

Pros

One of the biggest benefits for our company has been keeping our documents consistent and making sure punctuation and grammar are always up to standard. I've rolled it out across our team and have also recommended it to several friends who work as editors and proposal managers because it really improves the final editing stage for proposals. Before using it, I was mostly relying on manually eyeballing my last round of edits but now it saves me around 2 to 3 hours of work.

Cons

Every now and then the acronym list doesn't capture every acronym so I have to go back and add a few manually. It's not a major issue but it can be a little frustrating at times.

Simple checks and faster editing

Pros

It's very simple for me to work with. The interface is user-friendly and simple, guiding me through the different checks, highlighting errors and inconsistencies and suggesting alternative corrections. At the same time, the final choice always stays with me. If I need more advanced functionality, it's also highly customizable, with checks that can be adapted to each project and to an individual author's style. When multiple people are writing to a house style, it helps us maintain consistency within documents and across them as well. It runs very fast too for me which saves a lot of time. It has definitely aligned my editing workflow and improved my productivity. I work as a professional proofreader and copyeditor and it has brought real value to my business though it would be useful for anyone who writes or reviews text.

Cons

custom styles boost my writing

Pros

Running my own consulting work means I need something that catches the mistakes I often overlook when reviewing my own documents and this does exactly that for me. It's simple for me to work with and clearly improves the overall quality of what I produce. The customizable styles are especially valuable to me because I can adapt the software for different clients, each of whom has their own preferences around wording, acronyms, punctuation and ways of working.

Cons

One thing that would make it even better is if the software could automatically update those customizable styles based on the choices made during a document review.

editorial consistency booster

Pros

One of the hardest parts of editing for me is that my brain tends to read what it expects to see instead of what's actually on the page. This tool helps me catch areas I might have overlooked. It's especially useful for me for keeping things consistent and the custom style sheet lets me make sure I'm applying everything the right way.

Cons

It can take a bit of time to load when I'm using it alongside Microsoft Word. After that though, it works without any real issues.

indispensable for final checks

Pros

Right at the start of a project, I use it to clean up the file and highlight anything that might need attention for me. Then I run through it again at the end to make sure no mistakes have slipped in during editing or proofreading. One feature I really appreciate is being able to customize styles for different clients. I genuinely wouldn't want to work without it!

Reliable writing backup

Pros

No matter how many times I go through a text, there are usually still a few inconsistencies left behind for me. This helps me catch issues with abbreviations, punctuation and spelling preferences and it really feels like having an extra brain checking things for me.

Cons

My only downside is that it still isn't available in Hungarian which is another language I work in.

valuable chapter-by-chapter support

Pros

Before I sit down to read a book or chapter in full, it's really helpful for me to run it through this first. It lets me make easy corrections ahead of time and also flags things that could come up later. When it's something I may need to decide while reading or discuss with the author, I can drop in a comment instead of changing it right away. I'm sure I'm not using every feature it offers but even so, it has definitely been worth it for me.

Cons

Nothing specific comes to mind as a downside. Like I mentioned, I probably don't take advantage of everything it can do but it still feels like a very valuable tool.

Catches the mistakes I miss

Pros

It helps me catch errors that would usually slip past me unnoticed.

Cons

A big frustration is that my word processor often crashes halfway through a review, usually at the worst possible moment when I'm rushing to deliver work to clients. That makes the whole process really frustrating and time-consuming.
