“Storyline has come a long way

Articulate has put significant effort into developing a comprehensive suite of tools that most e-learning professionals will find indispensable, including Storyline, Rise, and Review. While the Content Library is generally useful, it becomes somewhat limited when working in a specialized industry.

Cons

Rise lacks several features that would make it preferable to Storyline for rapid development. Storyline's slow development pace in day-to-day work leads to heavier reliance on Rise, despite its limitations. Improvements are needed to enhance Rise's functionality and compete with other products on the market.

Pros

This tool is incredibly easy to adopt and use for training purposes. It's our go-to for creating training programs across various initiatives at our organization. The suite of products helps us create final eLearning courses for stakeholders effortlessly. Whether it's video creation capabilities in Peek and Replay 360 or crafting interactive content in Storyline and Rise, Articulate 360 streamlines the process. The Review feature makes it exceptionally easy for stakeholders to provide feedback on the material created. The availability of different templates and media in the Content Library facilitates the creation of professional-looking and cohesive programs.

Cons

Logging in can be a major pain point, with occasional errors likely stemming from strict organizational information security and networking guidelines regarding cloud-based systems.

Pros

It's incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. I've developed several interactive modules using the software, and the content library of high-resolution images enhances the quality of the output.

Cons

One issue encountered while capturing screens and conducting simulations is that the published content blurs during on-screen interactions, particularly in the Chrome browser. These issues have been logged, and hopefully, the latest update will address them.

Pros

It's incredibly easy to use, with advanced actions in highly interactive courses being straightforward to design and build. Having prior experience as a developer in Flash allows for creativity in course design, and I've yet to encounter anything that cannot be achieved using triggers and variables. Compared to Adobe Captivate, which often required additional coding for similar functionality, Articulate 360 is a superior choice.

Cons

Occasionally, course files become corrupted and cannot be saved, although this happens infrequently. Saving a new version of the course often resolves the issue, but intensive overnight work on a course build has led to file corruption, necessitating starting the build from scratch.

Pros

Storyline is the easiest yet most comprehensive e-learning software I use and recommend to my clients. It's straightforward and encompasses most functionalities needed in an e-learning module.

Cons

The desktop version's cost is quite steep, requiring companies that aren't cloud-friendly to manage and allocate licenses.

This software package is user-friendly and doesn't require a master's degree to develop courses. Its compatibility with PowerPoint simplifies the process of transitioning existing training materials into online courses. The tech support is responsive and effective when needed.

Over the years, I've encountered issues with crashing and freezing, which seem to be common problems with the software.

The features offered are excellent for designing e-learning courses, with an overall user-friendly interface. The ability to publish in multiple formats, including SCORM and PPT, streamlines the creation of e-learning courses.

Cons

While generally user-friendly, some features are missing from Storyline, requiring the use of JavaScript. Ideally, if the software can perform a function, it should be achievable within the software itself.

It's incredibly easy to use, almost intuitive. If you understand how to use PowerPoint, you'll feel right at home with this software. With a wealth of built-in functionality compared to Captivate, you can publish impressive courses with minimal effort. By investing time in learning its advanced features, you can craft stunning courses. I've been using this software since version 1, and it keeps getting better. The user forum is an invaluable resource, and the support is attentive.

Cons

Upgrades have occasionally caused issues with our lessons, such as crashing when quizzes or surveys are included. Previous upgrades caused compatibility issues with our LMS, leading to lessons not being tracked or warnings being sent. While not entirely Articulate's fault, these compatibility issues caused significant inconvenience.

I value the polished and professional aesthetics of the presentation/training module offered by this product. It serves as a powerful learning tool, leaving a lasting impact on learners.

Cons

Since it's a robust program, becoming proficient does take some time. However, the more I use it, the easier it gets. Expecting to jump in without needing a fair bit of training isn't realistic.

“Rise is on the Rise

Pros

Having been in the L&D industry for over 10 years, I've long been a fan of Storyline and am now enjoying the additions being made to Rise, such as branch scenarios.

Cons

Accessibility does not yet meet WCAG standards, which is a priority for us. We hope to see further adaptation of these capabilities.

Because it's such a robust program, there's a learning curve to becoming proficient. However, the more you use it, the smoother it gets. Don't expect to master it without some training initially.

This subscription simplifies the development of fantastic eLearning courses. Whether it's quick cloud-based courses in Rise or more intricate course development in Storyline, it doesn't get any easier.

Cons

As usual, the subscription cost could be lower, but fortunately, it's not exorbitant. I wish they'd eliminate Quizmaker already.

Storyline anchors the suite, albeit with a learning curve, yet supported by a robust online community and outstanding webinars.

Continual updates with Articulate have had their drawbacks. After one update, my ability to preview content in Articulate Storyline 360 malfunctioned. Previewing content and understanding the timing of elements on a slide are crucial. Fortunately, I could uninstall the update and revert to an earlier version, but it meant missing out on new features. Technical support's handling of the issue was subpar, and I often had to rely on trial and error to find solutions. While the initial issue has mostly been resolved, some lingering problems remain. Nonetheless, the Articulate Community surpasses the typical technical support responses.

Small or medium-sized businesses with infrequent e-learning needs might struggle with the ongoing subscription cost. Lowering the price point would be beneficial.

Cons

The continuous updates from Articulate caused some issues for me as a user. After a routine update, I found that my ability to preview content in Articulate Storyline 360 wasn't working properly. Although this issue has mostly been resolved, there are still lingering problems. However, the Articulate Community has been more helpful than technical support.

There's an online and offline tool variant, with the online version being regularly updated. However, the offline version takes longer to receive updates, so users need to plan module development accordingly.

Perhaps the interface feels a bit outdated, like it's from ten years ago. However, for creative individuals, it's still possible to undertake significant projects. Some features are limited, so if you require complex tasks, this might not be the ideal software.
