“Timestamped coaching for kinesiology

Pros

As a college professor working in the intensely hands-on area of Kinesiology, this tool completely changed how I could teach during the COVID-19 lockdown because my strength-and-conditioning classes rely heavily on demonstrating and correcting exercise and resistance-training technique. When in-person instruction became impossible, I was at a loss for how to evaluate and coach my students remotely, then I discovered this tool which let my students upload recordings of them performing and coaching exercises so that I could watch, annotate and give time-stamped video feedback and live critiques, effectively mirroring the interaction I'd have in a gym or lab. Given how well it preserved the teaching dynamics and allowed me to address technical faults and provide individualized guidance, I would absolutely suggest this tool to colleagues and anyone trying to adapt to digital or distance learning environments.

I haven't come across any drawbacks in my experience using this tool so far.

I find the interface easy and simple, so I needed very little training to feel comfortable navigating and using it effectively.

Cons

For me having tags and similar settings locked down by the admin restricts how precisely I can respond which often keeps me from providing as accurate an answer as I'd like.

I've found this tool to be an invaluable tool for video review in our research work since it lets every member of the research team quickly pull up recordings and add time-stamped annotations, moreover I appreciate that the platform congreatates everyone's comments so I can view annotations from all contributors in a single, shared workspace.

Cons

Although I don't have any real complaints about the functionality and generally think the software works wonderfully, I would like the ability to upload much larger file sizes into the system because the current upload limits can be restrictive for some of our high-resolution video material.

I sometimes wish there were an option to type comments while the video continued playing because having to pause to write can break the flow, yet I also appreciated that automatic pausing since it ensured I didn't miss any important moments.

For me the application is remarkably easy to navigate and the team behind it ranks among the most supportive colleagues I've ever come across which makes collaborating on issues a real pleasure. I also appreciate the flexibility to tailor markers and to insert targeted comments through several different methods because that level of customization allows me to deliver feedback that is specifically aimed at each learner's needs.

Cons

However, I find the terminology somewhat restrictive, I rely on this platform with both pre-service students in training programs as well as with practicing, licensed professionals and the binary labels "teacher" and "student" simply aren't appropriate across those different roles.

“Easy pandemic presentation setup

When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit and in-person presentations suddenly weren't an option, I had to move my students presentations into a format that my classmates and I could easily watch and grade, I found this tool easy to set up and, after sharing a brief demo video, students were quickly submitting their projects without fuss. The built-in timer made keeping to allotted times simpler and being able to record directly within the app removed extra technical steps. Several students didn't have webcams on their laptops but were still able to capture their presentations using their phones which worked smoothly. I use this tool regularly in my classes now and fully intend to keep using it going forward.

Cons

Like most applications, it came with a bit of a learning curve for me at first, although my students picked up the workflow much faster than I did, I wasn't long before I felt comfortable navigating the features and felt confident using the tool for assignments.

I've seen this tool significantly improve how instructors deliver feedback on students' skill demonstrations, turning what used to be vague commentary into clear, actionable guidance, it's also incredibly easy for both teachers and learners to navigate, making it easy to adopt in practice. One of the features I value most is the ability to leave time-stamped feedback on video demonstrations of professional skills and the option to keep those comments hidden until you're ready to release them is genuinely helpful, I'd strongly recommend it.

At the time of our launch, we couldn't integrate this tool with our LMS.

However, I sometimes struggle to understand certain functions because a few features are not simple and take more time than I'd like to figure out.

What I appreciate most about this program is the sheer convenience it offers because it allows me to stay in class and complete punctual observations without the time sink of traveling and I'm able to assess a student intern in real time which during this Covid season has been the single most incredible part of overseeing interns.

I've yet to discover any capability missing from the software that I wish it had, although the most tedious step for our team was importing our rubrics into the system, once we figured out the process it flowed smoothly and honestly I can't think of any specific feature of it that I dislike.

“Zoom screen-sharing struggles

When I'm unable to conduct an in-person lesson observation having video recordings to rely on is incredibly helpful because they allow me to review the teaching afterwards and still gather the insights I need.

Cons

I find it really tough to share my screen and play a video during a Zoom meeting, since it often leads to awkward lag and technical issues that disrupt the presentation flow.

Pros

I really value how easy it is for me to link this tool's grading tools with the Canvas LMS, since that simple integration saves time and reduces friction.

Cons

For my part, I truly don't have any complaints because in my experience it's an excellent platform for providing feedback on and grading ASL videos, making the whole process much smoother.

My teacher candidates often struggle to successfully upload their videos and dealing with customer support about these issues can take a lot of time, in one recent instance I had a support agent walk me through steps that proved unrelated to the real problem which ended up wasting a significant amount of my time.

I've found this tool incredibly easy to use and full of useful features that make running interactive presentations in my class much smoother, students can upload their slides, classmates are able to leave comments and ask questions and then presenters can return to address those points which overall encourages lively discussion and keeps engagement high on an online platform.

One aspect that frustrates me is the commenting restrictions because when the platform enforces a minimum word count or a required level of interaction it can feel forced and additionally the rule that longer comments are only allowed toward the end of the video often leaves students uncertain about when to leave thoughtful feedback which can be confusing during a live session.

During my intensive conference interpreter training, I relied on this tool a lot and what I appreciated above all was how it simplified both giving and receiving feedback, using it never felt complicated.

When it froze I would sometimes lose recordings which was frustrating and although there appears to be a mechanism to handle brief internet outages, in my experience it didn't kick in reliably or operate as easily as I'd hoped.

What really stands out to me is the breadth of functionality and the feature set the program provides, I can customize rubrics for both teachers and students, leave time-synced comments and access analytics that show how markers are interacting with submissions which helps me track assessment practices. I also love that my feedback isn't limited to text, I can record audio or video comments as neededpowerful it's easy and fast to upload video source materials into the system.

Cons

On the downside, group interpretations don't seem to work correctly and I wish that feature functioned as expected because it would be very useful. Occasionally the platform is glitchy, I find myself refreshing the page to see new submissions and often have to reset student attempts when microphones fail or the computer freezes during recording. It would save me a lot of time if I could simply hide certain assignments without having to set a start date beyond the semester which feels tough.

I really appreciate that students can play together live and have their sessions recorded simultaneously which lets me capture real-time ensemble performances additionally, I can leave comments tied to specific moments and have those annotations tagged for easy reference.

Cons

Unfortunately, the expense makes it hard for us to justify continuing and our district has chosen not to renew the program now that we've returned to in-person schooling.

Honestly I can pause any video at an exact timestamp and provide comments and a rating on a colleague's clinical or consultant demonstration which makes feedback precise and contextual.

As a user, I've noticed that background live group conversations are audible during sessions and when I copied content and the rubric from other faculty it became somewhat confusing to reconcile.

This tool offers a handy environment where students can record videos and get feedback from their professor as well as classmates, I value how simple it is to use, the ability to leave time-stamped comments and the slide-sync capability and above all I find the instructor interface particularly simple and easy to navigate.

I've heard from several classmates that they come across problems uploading videos to this tool when using a phone or an iPad and this recurring mobile upload issue can be pretty frustrating for those trying to work from their devices.
