No notifications about activities in the virtual classroom

Pros

I love how easy it is to join online classes and upload files.

Cons

I don't like that the software doesn't notify me about activities in the virtual classroom which makes it easy to miss important tasks.

Provides valuable insights

Pros

One of the features I like the most is that it tells us in real time who accessed the platform, at what times and which sections they entered. It also shows how many clicks each user made within the site. I find it easy to use even without having extensive experience with this kind of platform. For teachers creating their course content, it clearly indicates which types of materials attracted attention and highlights the areas that need improvement in order to better engage students. It gives me actionable insights for improving lessons.

Cons

I find the free version a bit complex because of the ads, that's really my only complaint. If you want to get the most out of the platform, I would seriously consider upgrading to the paid plan.

Helped me through Covid

Pros

During my university years, I really relied on Moodle especially once Covid-18 hit because it made accessing course materials incredibly simple, submitting tests and formal exams easy to manage and attending virtual classes much more convenient and reliable.

Cons

Overall it ran smoothly for my needs throughout my courses.

Good for tracking a student's academic progress

Pros

I appreciate that students can study online, finish assignments and safely attempt and submit course work through the platform which noticeably lightens the administrative workload. I also find it to be a solid and reliable tool for tracking a student's academic progress.

Cons

I find that when Moodle is self-hosted, the institution ends up covering internet costs which over time becomes quite costly because many courses include videos students need to stream from various locations. To avoid that expense, I recommend using a third-party hosting provider to run Moodle as a practical solution.

Amazing community chat feature

Pros

What I like most is the community chat for educators, being able to upload evaluations and assessments and how simple it makes sharing different files with colleagues and students.

Cons

I feel the platform hasn't moved into selling cloud-based library materials yet and if it did commercialize library content in the cloud it could enter markets for educational materials, books and library resources.

Reports could improve

Pros

I find the tool really well optimized for users. It feels fast and tailored to what I need in daily use.

Cons

Speaking for myself, I'd say the way reports are displayed could use a clearer, more user-friendly layout and presentation.

Full-featured program

Pros

It's user-friendly, full-featured and comes with plugin tools that suit their intended uses.

Cons

I mostly like it but I do face problems when using the app on mobile devices at certain moments, that's essentially the only drawback I notice.

Inconvenient when the internet goes down

Pros

Honestly I've found this platform really practical. I mostly use it for school. It's simple and user-friendly and there are even help guides that make it simple to move around and to figure out how to upload assignments or documents. For me it's free because my university provides access which makes it even more convenient.

Cons

When my internet cuts out, it becomes a bit of a headache because I can't tell whether my work actually saved. Sometimes that's caused by the platform being under frequent maintenance which adds to the uncertainty. Another annoying limitation is the cap on file size when uploading, it can be restrictive when I try to submit larger documents or media.

Cons

Accessing large datasets can be difficult and I sometimes can't open certain files at all.

Dated layout

Pros

What I like most is how it breaks my courses into modules and gives each one its own mini-portal so I can go to a single spot to find all the relevant readings and assignments for that class.

Cons

Honestly I found the interface pretty clunky. Jumping between modules wasn't smooth and tasks like checking my grades meant drilling into each assignment's results page which felt like an overly long process. The overall layout came across as dated and I didn't always find it user-friendly.

Easy access to courses

Pros

I can quickly get into my courses and finish the coursework without any issues.

Cons

Submitting assignments can be frustrating because, on occasion, the images I attach fail to load correctly. That's the aspect I dislike most about it. I've heard other people experience the same glitch. That said perhaps it's been addressed since I haven't come across that problem in quite some time.

Offers a lot of resources

Pros

I really like how simple the interface is, the variety of resources it offers, the quickness in verifying information and its ability to accept virtually any file type.

Cons

It can be imprecise on exams since saved responses are accepted as correct exactly as entered by me, even when they don't follow proper grammar rules.

Does the job

Pros

I use this platform through a partner company to take my online courses and it provides a lot of tools for delivering knowledge and online training.

Cons

Although it's a bit more complex and not as visually appealing as some other platforms, I still find it serves its purpose very well.

Cost us nothing

Pros

In our situation we only needed to provide a server to host it so it cost our company next to nothing.

It's not particularly refined but I understand that's the trade-off for the low price.

So many bugs

Pros

Its nice to be able to work offline. I would like it to be improved by adding an option that lets me choose the storage mode on my device.

Cons

I consider this app useless because it's riddled with bugs. Every time I try to connect there's always something that goes wrong.

Centralized spot for everything

Pros

It serves as a single, centralized spot where I can access all my course materials, download assignment briefs and keep track of developments and research topics.

Cons

I've run into security restrictions with Moodle at many universities that clash with workplace or office security systems so I can't log in from most work devices. I'm frequently forced to use a personal computer or a campus machine to access the platform which is frustrating and seriously limits my ability to check things remotely instead of having to go into the university every time.

Feature-rich open-source LMS

Pros

I've found it to be an excellent open-source LMS with a rich set of features that make it accessible for teachers and students alike. Beyond letting me build courses and support learners, it offers a vast array of pedagogical tools for teaching knowledge, skills and competencies.

Cons

I wouldn't rely on it for large-scale projects. It tends to serve small to medium-sized colleges or universities reasonably well but when an institution grows much larger or when the goal is to centralize and run all classes across an entire city, the platform can struggle and doesn't scale reliably.
