outdated email tools

Pros

Compared with other options on the market, the price is very budget-friendly. that affordable pricing is a big reason we've continued using it for so many years, well over a decade.

Cons

Even the smallest changes to emails designed in Dreamweaver can't be made in the back end. Every edit has to be done in Dreamweaver first, then the email has to be exported and imported all over again. The heat maps were also broken for months and instead of actually fixing the problem, they just gave us a credit. Overall, the platform hasn't kept up with modern advances in email technology.

Strong automation for customer follow-up

Pros

One of the biggest strengths is how well it handles automation and workflows for follow-up. It lets us reach out to people, keep in touch with them throughout the entire process and also put together newsletters and emails without much hassle.

Cons

Design side could definitely use a refresh. The WYSIWYG editor feels pretty outdated and creating emails that look polished and visually impressive is tough unless you already have strong design skills or know your way around something like Photoshop. It works really well as it is but if you want your emails to truly stand out, the design tools feel pretty limited.

Free start with helpful training

Pros

Being able to get started for free was a big plus. Their video tutorials and email training campaigns gave me a lot to work with right away and I also appreciate that the pricing can scale up later as your customer base grows.

Cons

At the beginning, I was a little confused about the difference between Campaigns and Email Blasts but that cleared up pretty quickly once I went through the video training.

A practical choice for startups

Pros

The biggest plus for me is the free account. That alone makes it much easier to recommend to my clients especially since a lot of the people I work with are on tighter budgets. It gives them a practical way to get started with email marketing right away which is something every business really should be doing at this point.

Cons

One limitation I've always noticed is that you can't send one email campaign to several lists at the same time. Instead, I have to duplicate the campaign and send it again for each list. It's manageable and not a huge hassle but it is still a bit inconvenient. That said I've only run into this while using the free version so I'm not sure whether that changes on a paid plan.

Easy autoresponders with room to grow

Pros

Autoresponder setup doesn't get much easier than it does with this platform. The interface is attractive, the setup process is easy and the free plan allows unlimited sends to up to 2,000 subscribers. For anyone starting from scratch, it's an excellent way to build a list. Features like drag-and-drop email editing, dependable delivery and detailed diagnostics add even more value.

Cons

Since it's a freemium platform, it naturally pushes its paid plans so the free version is slightly restricted though not by much. The free tier has a cap on how many subscribers you can manage and only supports one audience although you can split that audience up so it's not a huge issue. It's also strict about spam so it's definitely not the right choice if your goal is to send unwanted mass emails.

Simple but limited automation

Pros

Ease of use is easily one of its strongest qualities. Navigating the platform is easy although pricing can become higher than some competing email marketing tools because costs increase with list size. The automation and segmentation capabilities are fairly basic so it may not be ideal for highly advanced marketing workflows or multichannel campaigns.

Cons

Training resources are quite limited and the tutorial videos only cover very basic material. They are not especially useful for digital marketing professionals who need deeper guidance. On top of that, the customer support is really terrible.

More than just email campaigns

Pros

A powerful collection of email marketing features makes this platform stand out. The postcard functionality has been particularly useful, allowing us to send physical mail to donors quickly and with minimal effort.

Cons

Pricing went up quite a bit and since we weren't fully using all the available features, it became hard to justify the cost.

Beginner-friendly with powerful insights

Pros

Even users without coding experience can become productive quickly. The available guides and tutorials simplify the learning process while detailed reporting helps track campaign performance and benchmark results against industry averages. Integrations with platforms like Google Analytics and Shopify are another major advantage and the generous free plan is more than sufficient for many small businesses.

Cons

It feels a bit minor to criticize the feature limits when the Free plan offers so much but I still wish there were a 14- or 30-day trial for the paid plans. That would make it much easier to figure out whether upgrading is actually worth the investment.

Scales smoothly with business growth

Pros

Launching campaigns and managing contacts was surprisingly simple from day one. The free version works well for smaller mailing lists while the reasonably priced upgrades have allowed us to scale comfortably as our database has grown into the tens of thousands.

Cons

Unsubscribe process feels awkward because it runs through a separate tool with its own database. It also doesn't sync with our CRM right away so we end up having to do the work twice.

Email marketing made easy

Pros

Creating and sending email blasts requires very little technical knowledge. Building lists is easy, designing attractive campaigns is easy and the open-tracking functionality provides valuable engagement insights.

Cons

Managing subscriptions and unsubscribes can be a bit tricky. On top of that, the cost climbs pretty quickly as your lists grow and before long it can end up being much pricier than other email marketing tools like Constant Contact.

Affordable analytics for better results

Pros

What stands out most is the combination of affordability and detailed performance reporting. The platform handles high-volume email sending efficiently while providing the data needed to measure campaign success and understand audience engagement.

Cons

I'd still like to see the template library grow. The current selection is fairly great but having more options would help reduce the chances of customers coming across the same design more than once.

Excellent value for small businesses

Pros

For a small business looking to maximize value, this has been a great discovery. The free plan covers everything I need, performs reliably and delivers excellent functionality without adding to my budget.

Cons

Only downside is the learning curve but that's pretty much it. And honestly, that's expected anytime you're trying to learn something new.

Free plan with lasting value

Pros

Small businesses can get a lot of value from the free plan. The monthly sending limits are usually sufficient for lighter email marketing needs and the platform has become significantly more user-friendly over the years. While there is still room for improvement, the experience is far smoother than it once was.

Cons

Account area on the website used to be extremely hard to navigate and it was frustrating trying to figure out where to go for different tasks. Even creating newsletters felt unnecessarily complicated. That said it has gotten noticeably better over time.

Professional internal communications made simple

Pros

Creating professional-looking staff communications has been remarkably easy. Even without graphic design experience, it's possible to build polished emails quickly. The reporting tools are especially helpful for tracking opens, link clicks and document acknowledgments while the survey functionality has also proven useful.

Cons

One thing that would really help is the option to send a single email to several tags at once while still keeping contacts organized under separate tags. It's also a little difficult to locate and review survey responses.

Great tool...

Pros

One of the biggest advantages is how much room there is to grow before costs become a factor. The platform has continued to expand its feature set over the years making it increasingly useful. The generous subscriber allowance before paid plans become necessary provides plenty of flexibility. One lesson I learned however, is the importance of using current, permission-based contact lists, as outdated lists can lead to complaints and account issues.

Cons

A frustrating part of the platform is how quickly your account can be taken down after even a negative report or a few complaints. In our case, once we emailed a few hundred people from a Tales of Extraordinary Women event, we got some negative reports and then saw a wave of unsubscribes right away on the first day. That can make the system feel pretty unforgiving. The bigger challenge I'm still trying to solve is how to get potential customers, clients, or readers interested enough to open the emails and actually sign up willingly for the services or content being offered.

Analytics that drive better campaigns

Pros

When the goal is reaching the right clients and driving more sales, this software really gets the job done. It helps you build email marketing campaigns without much hassle and one of the biggest advantages is having all your campaign analytics in a single place. You can track how many emails were opened, how many bounced and even how long recipients kept the emails open. The analytics features make it much easier to tell which email content is performing well and which campaigns need improvement.

Cons

Getting started can be a bit limiting for new users because there is no longer a free version that lets you use your own custom code. That means you have to rely on the large template library they offer and while there are plenty of options some templates still do not fit certain design needs very well.

A powerful tool for bulk outreach

Pros

This has been one of the best tools I've used for digital marketing especially for email campaigns. It lets us send emails to a large number of customers all at once which makes bulk outreach much more efficient and practical.

Cons

The part I like the least is that automation requires a monthly subscription and the service pricing feels a bit expensive.

Simple and reliable for WordPress

Pros

Nothing especially flashy here but it handles what I need on my WordPress site and that's really enough for me. It's a great, easy mail client that gets the job done.

Cons

I don't really have any complaints. It works well for my WordPress site, covers what I need and serves as a simple mail client.

Free and easy to adopt

Pros

Getting started with it is free and uncomplicated which is a big plus. The templates feel very fluid and the platform is highly user-friendly so I'd definitely recommend it for email marketing.

Cons

There are quite a few free templates available but accessing a wider selection requires upgrading to the paid version. On the positive side, the templates are also very simple to edit.

Flexible plans for every stage

Pros

There are multiple pricing tiers so you can use it just for sending email blasts and newsletters or invest in the higher plans to automate most of your marketing. It also offers plenty of options in between which is awesome. Being able to customize the level of use based on your company's needs and budget is a big plus.

Cons

Cost is still on the high side. At the nonprofit where I work, it was difficult to convince leadership that it was a necessary expense.
