free tier that keeps delivering

Pros

The generous free tier has made this a recommendation I've shared for years. Both small businesses and growing organizations benefit from its ease of use and the platform continues to evolve beyond traditional list-based email management.

Cons

Paid plans are definitely getting more feature-rich but those additions have come with rising prices too. The starting cost for smaller lists is turning into a real sticking point for my clients especially for those who began on the free plan and now struggle to justify upgrading. On top of that, the Canadian exchange rate adding another 35% makes the pricing even harder to swallow.

personalized emails that stand out

Pros

Ability to create highly personalized emails is one of its strongest advantages. Whether importing an existing design or building something entirely from scratch, the flexibility ensures every campaign can feel unique.

Cons

Updating the background and the colors inside content blocks takes quite a few steps. If someone isn't very comfortable exploring a program on their own, editing an email could take them a while.

Great email marketing features

Pros

Most organizations will find that the platform covers nearly all their email marketing needs. While some enterprise-level targeting and tracking features may be missing, the product has matured significantly and now offers capabilities closer to full marketing automation solutions.

Cons

This still isn't the most advanced option available. Competitors that are more expensive and more complicated do offer deeper automation and more detailed metrics.

helpful tutorials and targeting

Pros

The educational content and reporting tools provide tremendous value. Tags and audience segmentation make it easy to target specific customer groups effectively.

Cons

Putting together email templates feels a bit tough. Some of the features still seem outdated and could use improvement. It would also help to have a clearer notification before a campaign is sent. When exporting a segment to an Excel file, it shouldn't include all segments and tags and the filtering options could definitely be better.

newsletter customization powerhouse

Pros

Creating monthly newsletters is quick and enjoyable. The customization options are extensive, allowing for the inclusion of various media elements and links without complication.

Cons

I do wish the personal plan were stronger. The current pricing options feel much better suited to companies than to heavy individual users like me.

flexible mailing list builder

Pros

For anyone building their first mailing list, this is an excellent starting point. It combines ease of use, flexibility and a free plan that provides enough functionality for many early-stage needs.

Cons

At the beginning, a few parts were a bit confusing to figure out but once everything starts to click, it becomes much more manageable. Overall, it's still a really good place to begin if you're just getting started with a mailing list.

fast email campaigns with templates

Pros

Campaign creation is efficient thanks to the template library and drag-and-drop editor which simplify the entire design process.

Cons

The part I like least is the limit on sending emails to only a small number of tags at one time. Since we segment leads that way at our real estate company, there are times when I need to reach multiple segments at once and end up duplicating campaigns.

startup-friendly email marketing

Pros

Few platforms make startup email marketing this accessible. The free plan supports up to 2,000 contacts, with room to scale as business needs grow. Strong app integrations, an simple drag-and-drop editor social posting automation and audience demographic insights add significant value for small businesses.

Cons

Support is only available to paying customers and even on a pro plan the customer service still feels pretty limited. Mandrill for transactional email costs extra and the functionality there isn't very extensive. Analytics are also fairly basic and detailed reporting is restricted to pro users.

excellent campaign analytics and ux

Pros

Among the marketing email platforms I've worked with, this one has the strongest interface and overall user experience. It stays very user-friendly even after a campaign goes live. Comparing campaign performance against past sends is easy and the option to export data for deeper analysis is a big plus.

Cons

Our biggest problem was that they also own Mandrill. If you rely on Mandrill for backend emails like alerts, confirmations and other critical keep-the-lights-on functions, I would avoid using this. We had false positives on a marketing campaign that caused a temporary account freeze until an employee reviewed it and that also froze our Mandrill account. As a result, our business basically lost customer communication, orders still went through but confirmations were not being sent and similar issues followed. On top of that, customer support was slow and came across as arrogant so we were stuck for nearly 24 hours without basic business functionality. We canceled it right after that.

time-saving automation for client emails

Pros

One of the biggest benefits has been being able to automate tasks that used to take me several hours. In particular, I can email clients based on how they're categorized in the software instead of reaching out to each person one by one. I'm able to build a workflow that sends at the interval I want which frees up more time and energy to focus on other parts of my business. Setting up a series of emails to go out automatically also keeps me in regular contact with clients without the hassle of writing a new email every week. It has definitely improved my workflow by giving me more time back and the email design itself is also very simple to adjust.

Cons

At times, the site can be a little confusing to navigate especially when I'm trying to find settings like tag information or locate contacts and campaigns. I can usually figure it out eventually but it's not always very simple. I'd also really like the option to duplicate a campaign and assign a different trigger timeline since some of my wedding clients book outside the usual time frame and I still want them to receive all of their information before the wedding. On top of that, the number of campaigns feels limited. When creating a new campaign, it would also be much more helpful if I could include contacts from multiple categories instead of being restricted to just one.

powerful insights for email growth

Pros

It started out for me as just a basic tool to send emails to our list of 1,500 subscribers. Once I spent more time exploring the platform though, I came across a lot of useful resources especially the case studies. Going through those opened my eyes to a completely different approach to analyzing data and retargeting campaigns. Because of that, I ended up with a much better understanding of what our customers actually need and it also helped us keep growing our list.

Cons

I think the premium plan priced at $299 a month is overpriced. It's also disappointing that phone support isn't included with the lower-tier paid plans.

automation that saves me time

Pros

Keeping up with my subscribers and blog readers has become much more manageable with this. I'm able to schedule updates, send them whenever I want and automate as many campaigns as I need. That automation frees up a lot of time so I can concentrate on writing new blog posts instead of manually emailing people one at a time.

Cons

Template selection is fairly limited and getting one to look really polished takes extra time and effort. If you want your email design to look exactly the way you want, it also helps to have some knowledge of PHP and HTML.

fantastic email scheduling tools

Pros

One thing I really appreciate about ChipMonkey is the free plan that lets you send up to 1,000 emails. It's very easy to use and the auto-send feature is excellent since you can schedule email blasts ahead of time instead of handling them manually. The member accounts are also impressive because they allow you to send tens of thousands of emails. It really feels like where email marketing is headed.

Cons

The only part I'm not happy with is that the free plan is limited to about 1,000 emails. It can also be a bit inconvenient having to manually remove accounts you no longer want to include in your email sends.

affordable email marketing favorite

Pros

This platform gives businesses a budget-friendly way to get started with email list management and marketing. Since I work with startups as a consultant, it's the tool I usually recommend for managing email lists because the pricing is accessible and the platform is user-friendly.

Cons

First-time users may feel a bit overwhelmed at the beginning because there is a learning curve but the available support and detailed help pages make it manageable no matter the user's skill level.

clean templates and smart tracking

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how proactive the IT team is about keeping the product aligned with the constantly changing world of email and digital marketing. The templates look clean and feel simple but they also allow plenty of customization when needed. The backend does a nice job of helping track how effective communications are and they also do a great job of staying current with social media integration.

Cons

A few of the features go beyond my current comfort level and some of the technical language can feel overwhelming for a novice user. I can also see larger organizations running into more challenges than our smaller church when it comes to using email marketing consistently.

on-brand emails made simple

Pros

Putting emails together is really easy. The drag-and-drop editor, image options and button customization make a big difference and it's very useful for creating emails that stay completely on-brand.

Cons

There are a few small bugs especially when uploading a list. You still have to go through each variable one by one and choose save or skip so it would be much better if that part were automated.

segmentation that boosted opens

Pros

Segmenting and tagging our list based on results from past campaigns has made a real difference in how we optimize future sends. Over the last year, that capability has helped us steadily raise our open rate from 7% to about 14%.

Cons

One thing that would really help is more advanced segmentation. For example, building a group of contacts who opened within the past year and are also from a specific state is hard to do with the current "any" and "all" rules. It would be much better if we could nest one "all" group inside another and send to both within a single campaign since right now we have to split them into two separate campaigns.

budget-friendly email marketing winner

Pros

This tool feels very easy to use. It's a perfect fit for email marketing especially with its impressive campaign design options and the ability to keep data updated without much effort. The pricing is affordable, scheduled email marketing works really well and overall I absolutely love using it.

Cons

I haven't come across any downsides that can compete with what this tool offers. I really don't have any complaints about it and I keep recommending it to friends and family who need low-cost email marketing software.

flexible and user-friendly tool

Pros

Customization in this program is one of my favorite parts and it's very user-friendly overall. If I run into a problem with a client's HTML, it's usually something I can fix quickly inside the software. When time matters that much, that makes a huge difference.

Cons

I personally haven't had any real problems with it. The only thing I noticed was that the mobile app wasn't saving edits when I first tested it a few months ago.

affordable email builder that delivers

Pros

Getting started with this app was quick and using it day to day feels very easy. Creating polished, attractive emails doesn't take much effort either. Overall, it offers a lot of value for the price and has been a great option.

Cons

Integration with BigCommerce has been problematic and support wasn't really able to resolve the issue. On the e-commerce side, it also feels limited especially for product options and analytics when trying to build segments based on demographics or customer behavior.
