Newsletter templates and analytics

Pros

Having a few reusable templates in place has been a huge plus because it keeps our newsletters and emails looking consistent every time. I usually begin with the same 2-3 templates and the drag-and-drop building blocks make it fast to customize the design and feel of each message without much effort. Adding RSVP buttons for quick responses is also really convenient. On top of that, the analytics are incredibly useful for seeing who opened an email, clicked a link, or came back to the same email multiple times.

Cons

I don't have any major complaints. There have been a few moments when I wanted to do something and got stuck but the online library of how-to videos and articles has been really helpful. It also took a couple of tries to figure out the best way to segment my lists without creating duplicate contacts and increasing costs. Once I understood the right setup though, keeping those segments updated as new contacts come in has been very manageable.

budget-friendly email marketing win

Pros

A really great platform to begin email marketing with when you're working on a tight budget. The free plan goes up to 12,000 contacts and 2,000 emails which is very helpful starting out. The templates make it simple to create emails that look and feel like a natural extension of our website. Keeping my contact list updated also takes very little effort and with a well-designed template, my notifications and newsletters are less likely to end up flagged as spam.

Cons

One thing I wish they offered is phone support. That said the support team usually responds pretty quickly by email and that works well for me since I travel a lot and rely heavily on email anyway. On the free plan, you also can't remove their logo from the email footer which is a downside. I get that it's a free version and I can accept the contact limit but I'd still prefer to feature my own branding instead.

free subscriber tier and useful insights

Pros

A big reason to try this is the free plan for the first 2,000 subscribers. That alone makes it a smart starting point for anyone building a subscription list. Another strong point is how well it handles collecting email addresses and sending emails from blog posts once everything is configured. If you just want to send a standard email that isn't tied to a blog post, that's even simpler. I also really appreciate being able to see who opened the emails and who didn't, along with other helpful engagement stats. The reporting is clear and quick to understand so you don't need any kind of analytics background to make sense of it.

Cons

The part that keeps slowing me down is how Campaigns and lists are organized. Something about that setup just doesn't feel simple especially when a client needs something done fast. I have to stop and think through whether a task belongs under the Campaign or the list before I can move forward. One example was when a client wanted a new message sent immediately to recipients subscribed through RSS feeds. That turned into wasted time because I had to figure out how to avoid making a whole new campaign just for a one-time email to that RSS list. In the end, we posted on the blog, changed the time and date for it to check the site for new content and send it, waited for the email to go out and then went back into the campaign to reset the posting schedule. It all felt more awkward than it should have. Template editing can also be frustrating. It's not overly complicated to build your own template but the process still feels awkward. I had one client who was extremely particular about design and when I edited the "blogs" template being used for "Weds blogs," those changes didn't carry over when I selected that same "blogs" template for a new campaign called "thurs blogs." That was really confusing.

packed with campaign insights but high pricing!!

Pros

Sending bulk emails for user acquisition has actually been enjoyable with this tool which is not something I expected to say. Every batch of emails works like its own campaign and that setup makes things feel organized from the start. Once a mailing list is uploaded, the built-in tracker shows how active the subscribers are and that's genuinely helpful when you're trying to understand the quality of the audience. The email builder is another part I really enjoy. After finishing the copy, I can experiment with formatting and design without any hassle and there are plenty of built-in templates to choose from. It makes the whole process of styling emails feel engaging rather than tedious. The workflow is also very structured, upload the list, design the email, preview it, add the subject line and sender details, mention why the user is receiving the email, send a test message and it's ready to go. On top of that, the analytics integration is a big plus. It shows open rates and click rates for embedded links and it can also connect with Google Analytics. Between the clean interface, useful features and thoughtful options, it feels like a very complete package. Its widespread use is also pretty clear from the fact that Facebook Ads Manager has a dedicated option to import data directly from a it account.

Cons

Biggest downside is definitely the pricing. You can tell it's expensive when competing email platforms literally advertise themselves as it alternatives in their Google Ads. Because of that, it makes sense to test things carefully before committing to paid campaigns. The allowance for test emails which is limited to 2000 per week, could be a bit higher. Having a larger testing window would help users judge whether their emails are performing well enough before paying for an account. Another thing that feels unnecessary is the restriction on deleting subscriber lists. A list can only be removed if it hasn't been used for at least 7 days and I honestly don't see the logic behind that. If I want to delete a list, I should be able to do it whenever I choose. There's also a limitation around adding multiple built-in call-to-actions in a single email. I feel that, just like other formatting elements, users should be able to insert more than one CTA whenever needed. Right now, if more than one CTA is required, the workaround is to create an image and hyperlink it afterward which is far less convenient.

safe unsubscribe builds trust

Pros

Pricing is appealing and the Safe Unsubscribe feature really gives us peace of mind. It helps us feel more confident about keeping our subscribers while also making it clear to them that they can leave the mailing list quickly and without putting their privacy at risk.

Cons

Once you move past the basic free plan, the feature-based pricing tiers feel a bit too expensive for the value they offer.

flexible campaigns and shared editing

Pros

Putting together new campaigns with this software is really easy and one of the best parts is how simple it is to build templates and then tweak them later so regular content keeps a consistent format. I also appreciate being able to create different mailing list categories to separate different client groups. Another useful feature is that several people can work on the same template at the same time. Adding or removing people from lists is also a very simple process which makes it especially helpful for HR management.

Cons

I'd still welcome more template design options since the current choices can feel a bit restrictive though it's not a major problem. It would also help to have a clearer way to tell which category new members are being added to.

mailing list setup but opt-out issues

Pros

Mailing lists set up and scheduling tasks were pretty easy with this software. It's clear the designers tried to make the platform simple so clients can reach as many potential and prospective customers as possible. Another plus is that once everything was configured, it could mostly be left alone and run almost on autopilot.

Cons

The part that frustrated me was the unsubscribe process. Every now and then, when someone asked to be removed from our marketing lists, taking them out wasn't very convenient. I would sometimes have to manually track them down and reupload the list because their contact would end up included again. It only takes one customer getting upset about being contacted after opting out to create problems later. In some industries, a single employee complaint can get an entire company blocked from future correspondence even when that business is otherwise approved to be contacted. Because of that, I stopped using the program in the same way as before although I do still use it. It's possible this issue has been fixed by now since I haven't handled it the same way in a while.

top pick for email campaigns

Pros

Among the email campaign services I've used, this is easily one of the best. It's very user-friendly even if you're not especially confident with software or web-based platforms. The free plan and low-cost packages are a big plus and the drag-and-drop, click-to-edit setup makes creating campaigns really convenient. I love using it and my clients do too. I'd definitely recommend it as a great solution for managing email campaigns.

Cons

At times, getting it to work with certain websites can be tricky especially with WordPress, WooCommerce, or other e-commerce systems. That may not be entirely the platform's fault since third-party plugins seem to play a role but I've still run into integration difficulties now and then.

simple setup with useful automations

Pros

Free starter plan makes it appealing. You can begin using it without much hassle and only start paying once your list is growing. Having access to basic automations even on the free plan gives it a lot of value compared with other tools.

Cons

One thing I'd still like to see is a template that makes emails look more like they were sent from Outlook. The plain template still places everything inside an odd box in the center instead of letting the text fill the page like a real email would. There is a plain text option but that means losing formatting like bold text which makes email signatures less useful.

mailing works but sender display annoys

Pros

I send all of my emails through this and it covers the mailing features my company was looking for. It's simple to use and does exactly what we need on that front.

Cons

It really gets frustrating when some recipients see a long random URL instead of my actual email address, along with a "sent on behalf" message under my name. It's pretty annoying and I really wish the emails appeared as if they were sent directly from me.

easy setup with generous free subscribers

Pros

Right away, the biggest plus is how simple and easy the platform feels. On top of that, being able to have up to 2,000 subscribers on the free plan really makes it stand out compared with so many other email marketing tools out there.

Cons

Only downside I can point to is that creating attractive-looking emails can be difficult if you don't have much IT knowledge.

classic templates that connect

Pros

Using this has helped me connect with my audience much better. The templates are clean, classic and simple which makes the content visually appealing and also helps my clients follow along without any confusion.

Cons

The only problem I ran into was with comments from form submissions getting cut off. One day, the messages being pushed through were ending mid-sentence because of the character limit which made it hard to understand what my customers were actually asking. Aside from that one small issue, it has worked really well for me.

beautiful newsletter delivery powerhouse

Pros

Email editor feels like the best-looking composing canvas compared with other tools I've tried. You really don't need any design background to put together professional newsletters. Delivery is also incredibly fast. The moment you hit send, the emails go out right away and the reports are available almost instantly. Inbox placement has been excellent too. Unless someone is trying to send spam, messages consistently land in the inbox which is something a lot of other services still struggle with. Importing contacts is quick and easy as well. Whether you have a CSV file ready or just want to copy and paste email addresses, the built-in importer handles it without hassle.

Cons

Not a con but one thing that still needs work is the abuse detection system. If you send to 500 or more users at once and your bounce rate or ignore rate is high, the account can get temporarily blocked. The good part is that customer support helps resolve it pretty quickly.

versatile email tools and reporting

Pros

Having the free version comes with plenty of options which gives us a lot of control and flexibility. It's a powerful, full-featured email campaign manager and every mailing includes reports and campaign stats. It's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to use it well.

Cons

The only thing I'd change is access to more premium features in the free version, just to test them properly and see whether they'd be a good fit for us.

powerful segmentation and fast campaigns

Pros

One thing that really worked well for me was building customer lists and creating custom segments. It helped me keep track of customer interests and send emails based on what they actually care about. The filters are very simple to use and more than enough to target the right audience while reducing the chances of people unsubscribing. The custom templates are excellent too because they let me put campaigns together very quickly. I even made a template where I can insert full blocks just by clicking a + button and updating content only takes a few clicks. Copying previous campaigns is another feature I use all the time and it saves me a lot of effort. I also integrated it with my website pretty quickly which made it useful for connecting with new visitors.

Cons

There are still a few limitations that bother me. At times, I want to create a campaign from a list of email addresses saved in a txt file without having to build a whole new list inside the platform but it only lets me paste a small number of addresses. You also have to be very careful when editing the HTML because the styling can break quite easily. The free plan is somewhat restrictive as well, with a limit of 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month. On top of that, customer support has not been the best in my experience.

free start and helpful insights

Pros

Starting out with a small email list is free which is a huge advantage when you're still building an audience and can't really justify paying yet. It also provides helpful campaign summaries like open rates and click rates and the whole setup is very simple to put into place. Since it's widely used, there's plenty of support available and it connects well with WordPress and Facebook which makes growing your list faster and takes a lot of the work out of it. I really love using it.

Cons

A few parts of creating campaigns could be a bit more simple than they currently are. I can also see how some people might find the ads in the footer annoying though expecting absolutely everything for free is a bit much. Other than that, there really isn't much for me to complain about right now.

reliable API and clear docs

Pros

I've been using it for the past few years and it has been awesome throughout. They keep improving the service with regular updates which has been really good to see. Since I work as a developer, I also use their API and it's been very convenient. The API is easy to work with and the documentation is clear and well explained.

Cons

Support system can be a little slow at times and there isn't API information available for scheduled transaction emails. Because of that, we ended up using Mandrill, another IT service and that worked out well for us.

drag-and-drop email builder

Pros

Getting emails laid out the way I wanted was the best part of using this software. The drag-and-drop builder made it simple to move things around and create a design that fit exactly what I needed. It was also the first email marketing platform I worked with so I really appreciated how easy it felt. Unlike Bronto which I used later and found much harder when trying to get the visual look right, this one didn't require any coding at all.

Cons

Back when I was using it, I really didn't have any complaints about the software. That may also be because I was only creating basic weekly newsletters so I wasn't relying on a lot of advanced tools or needing much extra flexibility.
