“Costpoint is an extremely powerful project based accounting system
Pros
I like the flexibility Costpoint offers. With both private and public clients, I need to provide invoices in various formats and some project setups can be quite complex. Costpoint gives me the flexibility to manage projects properly and meet client requirements. I also value the extensibility tool introduced with Costpoint 7 which lets me customize the software to enforce our internal procedures and business rules.
Cons
Due to its flexibility, the system can be complicated which leads to errors. Our new users often mention that previous systems they used offered a more standard workflow to guide them through project setup. We understand this is challenging with so many different project setup requirements and we have tried to address it through the extensibility tool.

“I was the project manager for an upgrade and the implementation of Expenses in the T & E product.
Pros
Costpoint is powerful and packed with features. The customer support team has been an excellent source of knowledge, configuration guidance and troubleshooting. The higher-level support staff is very engaged and ensures that solutions are delivered well.
Cons
Configuring and learning this system is quite complex. There is a lack of direct integration with Time & Expense. The Deltek consulting services are very pricey with a minimum charge of one day (8 hours). This cost led me to choose a partner to assist with our upgrade instead.

“I have worked with Deltek products for over 12 years.
Pros
Deltek provides excellent customer support especially for defense organizations. Their consultants are knowledgeable and well-trained, meeting our needs.
Cons
I did like to see more integrated ancillaries. One major issue I have found is that participating vendors do not fully think through the integration which results in only partial solutions to our needs.

I cannot say there is anything I particularly like about this software. Tiny buttons? No. Jargon? No. Poor process flows? No. Difficult search functions? No. Glitches? No.
Cons
The user experience is the worst I have come across in my 20+ years in business applications.

It could be more useful with an improved UI/UX. While it was bug free and easy to use, the expense module does not work well and the customer service was poor.
Cons
The system is untested and buggy with a poor user experience. The modules often crash or do not work and the customer service is not the best.

“I have used Costpoint for 8 years. I have been able to learn a lot.
Pros
I love the Costpoint versatility. It handles a lot of different tasks and allows us to pull various types of information. Also it is very detailed in most areas and lets me hold notes as well. Since I work in payroll, I find the people and payroll modules to be the most useful.
Cons
I really dislike the fact that we cannot accrue non-cash fringe benefits. Despite our repeated requests, this feature has never been considered. Our employees use non cash fringe for benefits and I also find the setup for employee garnishments problematic. Each time there is a change to a garnishment (like a child support order adjustment), I have to stop and set up a new garnishment to keep the history, which can be confusing for anyone reviewing the file. Additionally, the note field is too small and does not include enough information for orders (like details on children or custodial parents) that were in Costpoint 6. I was disappointed when this feature was removed.

“Costpoint is very complex but quite easy to use once you are familiar with it.
Pros
I like how well integrated the different modules are. The ability to create custom query parameters for myself and others simplifies my monthly tasks.
Cons
I would prefer if Costpoint integrated Time & Expense into one database. The reporting functionality also needs to be more user-friendly.

Pros
The connectivity to the data is excellent and the system is consistently reliable. I can always count on the accuracy of the system's data.
Cons
The user interface does not meet the standards of other tools on the market. It needs a more modern look and feel.
