An excellent tool

Pros

Working as a researcher, I used it frequently to organize my code and keep it secure. It comes with several benefits, like managing code online, supporting collaboration and providing version control through branching. That branching feature was especially useful and is something I really appreciated about it.

Cons

It can be a little challenging for beginners but once someone becomes familiar with the environment, it's the kind of tool they'll probably keep depending on for the long term.

open-source coding works

Pros

After spending quite a bit of time coding, it still feels like the best IDE to me. It comes packed with pretty much every feature a developer could want and it has a style that really sets it apart. The open-source side of it is another big plus since it lets users tailor the experience to fit the way they work. At this point, I'm completely hooked on it and honestly can't see myself moving away from it anytime soon.

Cons

It is still Github, the strongest cloud-based code repository out there in my opinion. That said it does come with a few limitations, including some collaboration-related issues and other minor drawbacks. Even with that, I'd still recommend it over the alternatives.

Fantastic tool

Pros

Being able to publish code on the platform, update it, keep previous versions and get feedback from other users is really useful. It feels like a very strong place to store the code you write and manage version control properly.

Cons

New beta dashboard that shows activity from the developers we follow looks promising and is a nice addition but it still has a lot of room to improve in that area.

friendly UI for teamwork

Pros

Working with others feels much more simple with this software and collaboration is a lot easier overall. It's also very simple to use and the interface is friendly and welcoming.

Cons

The Terminal section could definitely use better documentation, in my opinion.

It has lots to offer

Pros

There's a lot of versatility in this platform and it can handle many different tasks which makes it really useful.

Cons

If you're not very comfortable with technology, it can be a bit challenging to figure out how everything works.

reliable file history tracking

Pros

Keeping track of a file's history is very simple. A developer can simply commit the code and share the link with the intended audience for review.

Cons

I couldn't think of any drawbacks. Highly recommended.

Has a lot of potential

Pros

With a dedicated person or team handling it, Github is fairly simple to use. I can clearly see the value it brings through process automation and support for application development. Once our organization restructures, we'll definitely take another look at it.

Cons

The downside for us was not having the internal resources to take full advantage of everything it offers. That really wasn't the tool's fault though.

beginner-friendly

Pros

Getting started with it is very beginner friendly and the collaboration features are really efficient. I also appreciate being able to build and deploy code directly from Github and Github Actions makes automation very convenient.

Cons

One limitation is that it only hosts Git repositories, while other platforms like Bitbucket also support SVN.

web-based code edits are fantastic

Pros

It feels like a deviantArt for developers, giving you the ability to update the code you submit and commit those changes directly on the web.

Cons

There are times when it gets slow and that can be pretty frustrating. It may even hurt motivation during work but having access to this kind of capability still makes users feel fortunate.

cloud-based version control win

Pros

Right from the start, the biggest advantage is the version control system it offers. It also makes team coding much simpler and moves the development process to the cloud which means you can work on code from anywhere. Because of that, it feels very user-friendly overall.

Cons

Even though the structure is useful, the traditional and familiar theme design can feel a bit tiring on the eyes. A more colorful interface would likely make it better visually.

friendly UI

Pros

The standout for me is the friendly UI. It's interface puts everything within reach whenever we need to dig into commits and track down a bug. Github Actions is another big plus for CI/CD workflows,it's quick to pick up and gives us a lot of flexibility when customizing workflows.

Cons

It falls short in task management. We still have to rely on separate tools like Jira or ClickUp because the built-in option just isn't efficient enough. It also lacks the level of customization we need. I'd love to see it turn its task-management solution into a separate app or site and make it much more customizable.

An awesome software

Pros

One of the biggest advantages for me is how widely accepted it is across the world. Even having a Github profile says a lot and gives others useful insight into your work. I also really appreciate that they let users connect a custom domain to a repository and host a website for free through a special repository name. The README pages can look really impressive too especially since they support markdown formatting. Also, the source code versioning gives a secure and reliable way for multiple users to manage changes and keep track of code updates. It feels much better than Bitbucket and being so friendly to open-source projects makes it a real asset in today's tech-driven world.

Cons

There is nothing major I would call a real downside although beginners may find commands like git add, git push and git pull a bit confusing at first. Some additional UI-based controls beyond the desktop app would make things more approachable for new users. Still, that hardly feels like a serious con and Git remains one of the most widely used tools for source code versioning.

Love it

Pros

Working with it has been a really good fit for a small team since there's no need to spend a lot of time learning the platform which lets us stay focused on the actual work. Github Actions handled our build needs reliably and connecting them with CI/CD tools like Netlify was pretty simple. Project management also feels clear and uncomplicated. Compared with other SCM platforms, it's open-source-friendly approach makes it much easier to discover new and evolving code that matches our interests and can be explored or used in our own apps and products.

Cons

Took me some getting used to with the interface since it wasn't really designed to be especially simple at first glance. For example, if you want to see the exact hour and time of a commit, you have to hover over the date instead of seeing it directly. Because of little things like that, the platform can feel challenging when you're just starting out although it becomes much easier with time.

fantastic UI and automation

Pros

The UI is very user-friendly and it also works well with third-party apps to automate actions. Also, you can build test bots that check things like whether a PR conflicts with something which saves reviewers a lot of time.

Cons

At times, the repository search doesn't behave the way I expect and I also feel Github Desktop still has room for more improvements.

Simple to use

Pros

Setting up repositories is pretty simple and sharing code access is convenient. It also does a good job of letting you assign permissions to specific areas like pull requests, branches, repo access and similar items.

Cons

Github Actions can be difficult to understand and put into practice. It feels like there should be more documentation tailored to individual technologies.

clean interface

Pros

The interface feels very user-friendly and getting to the code is simple and convenient.

Cons

It would be better to have a notification dropdown instead of being redirected to a separate page. Turning it into a single-page application could also make access faster.

strong repository management

Pros

This software does a really good job of handling repositories and keeps that side of the work well organized.

Cons

In my opinion, it's clearly geared more toward people who are comfortable using the command line so it can be tough to work with for a lot of developers.

A great code sharing platform

Pros

It has become the go-to source code repository for a reason. It fits well with modern development practices and nearly every open-source project seems to be hosted there. Sharing code with others is very convenient and it gives strong control over who can fork, clone or push to a repository. It also works well for code reviews which makes collaboration much better. Also, connecting it with source code analysis tools, DevOps workflows and other development tools is very simple.

Cons

Really don't have any major complaints. It feels far more powerful than SVN.
