all my code in one place

Pros

It has been fantastic for keeping everything together. I can track my personal code, my portfolio and plenty of work-related code all in one place which makes staying organized a lot easier.

Cons

Getting comfortable with version control took me a few years especially understanding the purpose behind it and all the terminology but once it finally clicked, I was completely hooked.

Excellent experience

Pros

In my experience, it helps keep all kinds of content together in one place and it's really convenient for sharing it with someone who is sitting far away.

Cons

I would definitely appreciate better support features, like stronger bots that can help automate some of the work more efficiently.

flexible coding

Pros

Being able to code both online and locally is a big plus. The tool also keeps track of every change through version control which is really useful.

Cons

Something that could make it even better would be an interactive IDE with graphical controls, such as drag-and-drop features.

github organizes everything

Pros

Between source code management, continuous integration and pipeline testing, it handles everything efficiently and makes the whole development process feel simple. It's become an essential tool to have in any developer's toolkit.

Cons

There's nothing I dislike about this product. It feels perfect.

Easy tracking

Pros

From a support standpoint I appreciate repositories that are well structured, with properly managed access restrictions and the option to report issues through templates. Keeping everything organized is simple since issues can be labeled and assigned to specific people, milestones and projects. The notification system is also really useful for staying updated and tracking progress.

Cons

The interface feels a bit old-fashioned and isn't always adaptive.

Incredible features

Pros

Working with it has been excellent for software development especially when a team needs to store, track and collaborate on projects together. One thing that really stands out is how well it supports multiple people working on the same project from different locations. Team communication and information sharing also felt very simple on the platform and I was able to interact with other contributors on the same project without much trouble. Another big advantage is the online version history. Every piece of code is backed up in the cloud which is really helpful if access to the local machine is not available.

Cons

It can be difficult for beginners to pick up because it is a very powerful tool and that can make it confusing at first. Also, the pricing is not the most favorable. Some extra features are locked behind a SaaS paywall so you have to pay if you want access to those additional capabilities.

A handy desktop app

Pros

The interface is user-friendly, it's convenient to access as a desktop application and the command-line version is a nice addition.

Cons

Does feel a little slow at times and the Github Desktop app occasionally fails when cloning repositories. I end up having to re-clone just to fetch the objects from the repo.

essential for coding collaboration

Pros

As a Computer Science student or software developer, this software feels indispensable. It lets you upload your projects without much hassle, work together with others and explore the source code from other people's projects.

Cons

One thing that could be better is the way other people's code is displayed since it would be more helpful if that part were organized more clearly.

version control I can rely on

Pros

Losing my hard drive and having to rebuild a 6-page website from the ground up made me appreciate It's source and version control even more. It's hard not to love that feature. I also appreciate that it comes with its own IDE while still working well with my preferred editor, VS Code. Also, collaborating with teammates from anywhere in the world is a huge plus.

Cons

Even though I know my way around it now, getting started was pretty tough because the learning curve felt steep as a beginner. Another downside is the pricing which can become quite expensive when you're working with a larger team.

Great features for every task

Pros

This is hands down one of the best tools for what it was actually built to do. Once you understand everything it can handle, it becomes very simple to work with. It also comes with plenty of features that make different tasks more interesting and useful.

Cons

What I'm not a fan of is that developers are allowed to overwrite the history by default.

All was good

Pros

Right from deployment the interface feels very simple, clear and user-friendly so almost anyone can get comfortable with it within a few hours. Most features are available both from the command line and the dashboard which makes it flexible to work with. The CI/CD capability is one of its strongest parts and cuts down a lot of manual effort during code deployments. It also supports nearly all programming languages and I appreciate that it sends email alerts when it detects certain security vulnerabilities. Another big advantage is having the option to work with both public and private repositories.

Cons

I really haven't run into any major issues with it. The only thing worth mentioning is that a few features require an additional payment.

I liked it

Pros

Using it feels simple especially when working with branching features and managing versioned code. Those parts are really useful and make handling changes much more efficient.

Cons

The interface and command structure can feel a little overwhelming at first particularly for someone who's new to it.

Excellent tool!

Pros

One of the biggest advantages is that it offers a strong free service alongside paid plans, plus a huge community and responsive support. Searching through a repository structure is fast and it works really well for storing projects and sharing them with teammates for collaboration or inspiration. It's especially useful when several people need to work remotely on the same project because it keeps everyone aligned. Since Microsoft took over, being able to host private projects has been a real plus and it also fits nicely with different CI tools like CircleCI and Github. Another benefit is how clearly you can review source code changes after a security update which makes it much easier to understand what was changed and how those changes were applied.

Cons

There are still some limitations though. It's not fully open in practice because files over 100MB can't be uploaded and the free plan only allows repositories up to 1GB. For newcomers, Github's mental model can be a challenge at first even if it starts to make more sense with time and experience. It also doesn't feel like the best option for documenting ideas or capturing the creative process. A tool like LayerVault or something similar, seems better suited for that type of work. Git is excellent for tracking code but not really ideal for tracking design work. That gap becomes more noticeable when drawings need to be turned into code or pushed into production, where things can feel a bit unclear. I'd also really like to see a more capable mobile app from it because managing repositories on smaller screens still isn't as practical as it should be especially for workflows that depend on issues or work-item features.

github pages made my portfolio shine

Pros

Even though I'm not a developer, It has been really useful for hosting my website and putting my portfolio live through Github Pages. It was very simple to use and that made the whole process really helpful and enjoyable for me. That's exactly why I ended up loving it.

Cons

If you're not a developer, you may not find it especially useful beyond specific things like hosting a portfolio site.

all-in-one hub for developers

Pros

It has long been the go-to platform for programmers and game developers to share their projects. I've used it many times to track down scripts and code snippets that would have been much harder to find elsewhere and it also helps a lot when collaborating with other developers on large projects. In short, it brings everything I need together in one place.

Cons

While GitHub is a go-to platform for sharing code, its collaboration features can sometimes be frustrating and harder to use than they should be.
