It serves as our code repository and build integration platform and there are plenty of tutorials available online whenever we need help.

As a new software developer, this application gives me a really good way to share my work and make my CV stronger. It also lets me upload and share different notes and documents which has been very helpful.

Overall this application has been very useful for someone starting out in software development and I'm genuinely satisfied with it.

Pros

Widely used across the community, it is free to use for open-source projects, has a user-friendly interface and offers a variety of features for version control and project tracking.

At the moment, I haven't come across any downsides.

Pros

After more than 10 years of using it, I've only seen it completely unavailable once or twice, it just keeps working. Competition with GitLab over the years has clearly pushed it forward especially around CI/CD with Github Actions. Also, the code review features are still unmatched.

Cons

The CI/CD side still feels like it's evolving. It would also be really useful to have a way to organize projects in a hierarchical structure.

There's a lot of valuable content here and the people behind it clearly know what they're doing.

I haven't come across anything in this software that has bothered me.

Pros

Working with a team feels simple to follow here since collaboration is clear and trackable. The bug-fixing tools are really helpful and the project management features stand out as the best part.

Cons

Getting around the interface can be a bit difficult at first and it is not always obvious how everything is laid out initially.

Pros

Right from the start, the interface feels adaptive, the layout is simple and the overall design is very well thought out. Managing tickets and working with agile processes can be handled entirely through it's built-in features.

One annoyance comes up when I search for a specific file.. it often opens a version from some random branch instead of the master/main branch. That makes the URL messy and I usually have to switch back to master/main before I can share the correct file link. It would also be helpful to have an out-of-the-box feature similar to Octotree.

Pros

Pretty much every developer can work with it since it's the default choice in a lot of teams. It builds on Git and adds a bunch of genuinely useful features on top and it works reliably across the board, both during development and in production.

Cons

Because it's so widely used and centralized, it ends up being a bigger target. Most of the outages seem to come down to that popularity and the fact that so much depends on one central service.

Pros

Absolutely amazing. It's incredibly helpful for software developers because it makes solving software-related problems much simpler. It's also useful for web development and you can get practical help directly from source code.

Cons

I can quickly search based on what I need and solve things without much effort.

Pros

It's biggest strength is how approachable it is at the start while still offering plenty of depth as your skills grow. Working together is very convenient too especially with merge requests and conflict resolution.

Cons

The built-in bug tracking could definitely use some improvement. Other than that, everything feels very well implemented and simple to use.

Everything about it feels efficient and simple so it's easy to understand and work with. Deployment has also been very reliable, with barely any bugs or crashes getting in the way.

Its collaboration side could use some improvement especially around upstream handling and some of the pull-related issues.

Webhooks and deployment pipeline integrations save me a lot of time and the command-line Git utilities are excellent.

Pull request compare feature could use some improvement and reviews can take quite a while when there are many files involved.

Pros

Whether it's for private repositories or open source work, this has been the best platform I've used to host code. It's very reliable and simple to use.

Cons

Notification management can feel a little tiring at times and once you're handling a lot of projects, filtering them becomes difficult.

Pros

Deploying repos through the terminal is really simple and that's something I've loved about using it.

Cons

The actual application does have too many ads which can be distracting.

Pros

Having the code available as open source is a huge plus because anyone with the right access can build on existing projects. It also works really well for rolling out software updates which makes the whole development process more practical.

Cons

Getting around the platform can be a bit tricky. I can manage it without much trouble but it's easy to see how other people might get confused when trying to figure out how to use the website.

It works really well for team collaboration, code management, reviewing solutions and handling issues all in one place.

Cons

One downside is that advanced security features and portfolio management are only available with the Ultimate plan.

Repository cloning feature is the part that grabbed my attention the most. It saves a lot of time when project assets need to be shared across a team.

At times, syncing projects to it can be frustrating especially when my internet connection drops during the first push attempt.

It feels like the ideal place for developers worldwide to share ideas, discuss issues and work through software development problems together. It's a smart way to make development more connected, while also helping people track down bugs and fix errors in their code.

Loved it.. it makes collaboration really effective especially for large communities of developers who want to share tips, ideas and useful tricks with each other.

Cons

Discussions can be a bit hard to navigate and finding the specific issues you're trying to look up isn't always very simple.

“Simple interface”

Pros

Pull requests are also easy to keep track of.It has a more user-friendly interface and forking a project feels simple.

Cons

GitLab and Bitbucket already come with their own CI/CD tools so I'm hoping it adds something similar soon.
