powerful platform for dev workflows

Pros

It packs in everything needed across the product development lifecycle and it also makes it simple to publish builds to third-party services.

Cons

Honestly.. there's not much to complain about. If anything, Github Actions could be a little more simple to set up but aside from that, I don't really have any issues with it.

Code collaboration made easy

Pros

Extremely useful platform!! Because it connects well with other tools like Visual Studio Code which makes my projects much simpler to manage at the code level. Github also supports collaboration really well by keeping versions organized properly so it ends up being a very powerful version control system.

Cons

The learning curve can be somewhat steep for people who have very little programming knowledge.

Pros

Getting around it is really simple and the support has been very strong too.

Cons

Website itself isn't especially polished from a design standpoint but it's not a major issue.

Great results

Pros

Accessibility, reliable version control and the fact that it's open source are the biggest advantages.

Cons

Honestly I cant think of any downsides. It has become my default platform for version control.

Better organization with collaboration tools

Pros

It really shines when it comes to collaboration specially with version control and pull requests. Those features make working with other people on projects much more organized and help keep track of changes efficiently.

Cons

Getting started can be tough for beginners particularly when trying to understand Git commands and how branching works.

feature-packed and far ahead

Pros

Compared with SVN, it feels way more capable and offers a huge range of features. People often say SVN is simpler but it's honestly not hard to keep things simple with it too. And when you need something beyond a basic workflow, the extra functionality is already there. Most of the time, if there's a feature or solution you're looking for, a quick search will show that it already supports it.

Cons

Once you go beyond the basics, the learning curve can be pretty time-consuming. Even after using it for many years, I still find myself regularly learning new parts of it and figuring out features I hadn't used before.

copilot and search are fantastic

Pros

Copilot has been amazing to use. It makes repository access and version control really simple and I also appreciate how many add-ons and integrations it supports. PR reviews are easier to work through with the split view and the search functionality is excellent. It does a really good job scanning the codebase and often pulls up references and function definitions when I need them.

Cons

At times, the PR review view can be a little confusing because comments show up under the wrong name which makes it harder to understand where the code actually sits especially in a large file.

Helpful branching

Pros

The branching feature is eespecially valuable because it lets developers handle new features or bug fixes separately and then merge everything back into the main project without interrupting the workflow.

Cons

As a beginner, the user interface felt a bit overwhelming at first. It works fine but it can sometimes seem cluttered.

Liked using it overall

Pros

It's been a really useful way to keep tabs on how bugs and feature requests are progressing through the engineering pipeline.

Cons

Searching is still incredibly difficult and it's very easy for duplicate tickets to get created.

Github is my go-to

Pros

There's a reason it's the default pick. It's excellent, usually free and gives you a lot of room to customize things the way you want. I use it every day and would easily choose it over Bitbucket, GitLab and similar options. It really creates a different kind of experience, almost like a social network built around version control.

Cons

I don't have any complaints. It is simply my favorite.

works great for us

Pros

Having different repositories available for my projects is a big advantage. Also, it lets me create my own repository, work together with colleagues and best of all, keep track of every revision along the way.

Cons

Been using it for a long time now and honestly haven't run into any major issues. That's exactly why I recommend it so highly.

we're happy with it

Pros

Managing PRs with this has been a huge help for our team. Setting up workflows works really well and when a PR needs to be reverted, that process is smooth too.

Cons

The email notifications can feel a bit redundant whenever changes are made to a PR although that's not really the tool's fault.

helpful coding community

Pros

There's a really strong community here for sharing code, learning from others and reusing existing code as templates which saves a lot of time.

Cons

One limitation is the upload cap of 100 files and it also doesn't support uploading folders.
