“free repositories management”

Pros

Running it on our own servers has worked really well for keeping parts of our codebase private while also cutting development costs since we do not need to pay for a subscription.

Cons

A part that is still challenging is setting up an SSH key to connect to the Git server especially for developers who do not have much experience. Clearer documentation or better step-by-step guidance would really help.

Pros

Packed with features, accessible and fairly easy to use once you settle in. It's a great option for tracking and managing projects and it gives you plenty of tools to communicate exactly what you need and when it needs to happen.

Cons

Getting started isn't quite as simple as it is with some other tools and it takes a little time to learn how to really use all the features well. Once that clicks though, it turns into a very powerful program.

Keeping projects moving without issues has been much easier for my coworkers and me. The application is simple to use without any issue.

For managing work repositories it performs well and supports both public and private configurations with private repositories proving especially useful. It is widely used across the company to monitor project progress and code activity. The ability to apply branch-level access restrictions is a key advantage particularly when it comes to safeguarding the main branch from unauthorized changes.

Cons

One thing that holds it back is that it does not display contributor profiles for public repositories which can make it feel less appealing. The interface also is not very user-friendly so it may not suit everyone. On top of that a number of settings and options are buried deep in the dashboards which makes the platform feel difficult to search and use.

This tool being an open source is a big plus and the interface feels simple to use. If data privacy matters, the option to host it on your own server is really valuable. Searching through a repo is also very convenient-you can just start typing a file name and it quickly brings it up.

Cons

Compared with GitHub, the code review workflow feels a bit more difficult. It would also be much better if issues and commits had a tagging feature.

Pros

From version control and code reviews to CI/CD this checks off a lot of what we need.

Cons

It does feel pretty heavy since it's a Ruby on Rails application and the third-party marketplace still isn't as broad as GitHub's.

Collaborating on code as a team becomes much more convenient with this. Instead of emailing files back and forth, we can just push everything there and the version control system is really good at showing exactly what your teammate changed.

Cons

At times, connecting our compiler to this tool can be a bit difficult.

This is a really strong service that competes closely with GitHub in terms of features, usability and overall quality.

Cons

One downside is that it is not as widely used as GitHub so collaboration can be a bit more difficult since many people still do not have an account there.

Free version gives a lot more benefits to us. It also comes with different themes to choose from and use.

The storage limit could be higher and the user management features could be improved.

Interface feels clean and easy so getting around it doesn't take much effort. The CI/CD features are powerful, team collaboration works really well and the built-in Docker support along with Auto DevOps makes the whole workflow even better.

I have not noticed any actual issues with the tool.

Everything needed for software development is covered in this one place.

Cons

While using it, I ran into some errors when defining issues or assigning tasks from the sidebar so I had to refresh the page. Occasionally the UX can become complicated too.

Pros

This is clearly aiming to be an all-in-one solution for software development teams and in many areas they're doing that really well. The DevOps capabilities are especially one of the parts I appreciate most.

Cons

Because they keep adding features and expanding the platform some things can change pretty abruptly. A feature that was included in one plan can suddenly be moved to a more expensive tier which means you may lose access unless you upgrade. The payment model also feels limiting. As a company, you're expected to pay for the entire team so you can't put only part of the team on one plan and the rest on a cheaper one and monthly payments aren't really an option either. Basically, you have to commit the full investment for the whole team all at once.

Pros

Running it on our own servers feels secure and it handles large projects well enough without becoming hard to manage. The interface is well designed.

Cons

Merge conflict resolver is pretty confusing. I really think their team should redesign that part to make conflict resolution clearer.

It's a really amazing tool though honestly I don't notice a huge difference between the extra features here and what Git already offers on its own. Still I use it every day and couldn't do my job without it.

Merging through the command line is still something I find difficult to work with.

Onboarding with it is very simple. It lets us create repositories, automate builds and manage source check-in and check-out without any hassle.

It would be even better if it included a multi-site replication option between locations.

The storage option could offer a bit more space and the user management part is annoying to deal with.

Switching to it let us replace our BitBucket repository hosting and Codeship CI setup with a single platform. That change cut costs for us and also gave us a more flexible infrastructure than we had before. It has been a win across the board. The part I appreciate most is how fast their team moves-they release new features and improvements at a really impressive pace.

Cons

That fast release cycle does come with a downside for technical stability. Fairly often, around once every couple of weeks, I run into something that is broken on their side. Sometimes the interface becomes very slow sometimes pushes fail to trigger CI builds and other times CI jobs get delayed before they actually run. I'm hoping these issues become less common as the platform continues to mature.

When it comes to managing code, this is the software I keep going back to. It works really well for peer code reviews and gives excellent access to repositories which makes it an amazing option for storing information. The way it integrates with other tools also makes moving around the platform very simple.

Cons

One complaint I hear often is that the repository storage space feels too limited which leads many users to think it is better suited to small companies and startups. Some people also see it as a monolithic application.

Pros

Reliability and security have been two of its strongest qualities for us. We pay for the premium version and it's been easy to work with. A lot of our developers really appreciate having their own dedicated space. Pushing and pulling code is hassle-free and it connects well with plenty of other apps. Creating and approving merge requests is absolutely essential for our workflow.

Cons

The CI integration is a nice feature but we eventually stopped using it and switched over to Concourse. It felt a bit complex, slower than we wanted and it would occasionally glitch.

As a developer having control over code versions is absolutely essential and this free tool does that in a really efficient and reliable way. The biggest advantage is that it costs nothing which makes it even more valuable and helps more programmers adopt something so important in their daily work.

Cons

There is definitely some practice required with this tool and it feels more suited to advanced users. If someone is just getting started, I would recommend looking up tutorials or guides online before using it because if you do not understand how to use it properly, it can create problems later.
