“receipt printing is a chore”
Pros
The features help cut down on time and effort. Overall I didn't run into many issues while using it.
Cons
Couldn't print duplicate receipts for both myself and the customer and there wasn't enough control to change the font or font size on the receipts.

“saves time and effort”
Pros
I saved a lot of time when I used it. I think the simple interface plays a role in that.
Cons
It needed quite a few customizations at the start. More than we had originally expected or planned for.

“Improved employee efficiency”
Pros
Made it extremely easy for my employees to handle tasks on their own without needing constant help.
Cons
I think the BOH side is not quite as user friendly compared with some other systems.

“Staff development has never been simpler”
Pros
My team was trained on this. The steps are clear enough to follow without anyone getting overwhelmed or frustrated.
Cons
It'd be nice to be able to see how much of each product I still have on hand after a sale. Having that feature would save me a lot of time.

“slow customer support and no bulk reports”
Pros
Adding or removing items only took me a few clicks and the POS system overall is easy to use.
Cons
Customer service has been a real headache. It takes them far too long to respond to questions. I'm also annoyed that there's no report showing items received by vendor and I can't generate a bulk report for loyalty customers with their total points. The only way to view points is one customer at a time.

“track your data easily”
Pros
Keeping track of data is so simple. The system is user-friendly and updates are pushed out quickly.
Cons
I really don't have any complaints aside from the fact that it needs a fairly large computer system to run properly.

“Industry-flexible”
Pros
We used it to handle conference payment. Plenty of others rely on it mainly for restaurants so it's clearly versatile. It's also affordable and works on almost every operating system. It doesn't run on my Chromebook but that hasn't been a real concern.
Cons
It took some effort to get comfortable with all the features at first but once I figured everything out I really started to enjoy using it.

“Simple management from frontend to backend”
Pros
Running this in my restaurant has been pretty effortless. It's quite simple to program. Keeping everything updated doesn't take much effort and the time clock works really well for payroll. Having payroll reports built in is a big help for accounting too. I also really appreciate being able to go into the back office, adjust item prices on the spot or add new specials right away when needed.
Cons
Logging in and out takes too long. Our employees share registers so they have to log out when they step away so sales don't get mixed up. But to log back in they then have to type two separate things (first the terminal number then the employee number). When it's busy those extra seconds stack up and the line slows down.

“all the core functions you need”
Pros
From the backend side it covers all the essentials you'd expect like basic reporting, inventory management and similar core functions. Very user-friendly layout.
Cons
Some performance issues persist. The software can be slow to load and it crashes randomly. Updating inventory counts is also less efficient than it should be since you have to save after every 200 entries.

“limited mobile app”
Pros
I appreciate that the technical support team responds fast and is consistently available for me whenever help is needed.
Cons
The mobile app feels pretty limited on certain details. In my experience it's really only useful for checking the day's sales.

“Hardware keeps disconnecting”
Pros
Set everything up without breaking a sweat. The fact that I could run it on an iPad made it so much more convenient.
Cons
Reliability is a big issue. It loses connection to the hardware almost every day. The swipe hardware also wears out much too quickly.

“payment system barely works”
Pros
About the only thing that worked well was the BOH reporting. I really expected a lot more beyond that.
Cons
The connectivity was awful. The handheld EMV chip readers lock up the terminal so no other server can use it until the transaction is finished. We ended up buying extra iPads just to take payments with a Square swipe attachment. Then we had to create a separate payment account and move the money into our real account. The whole payment workflow is incredibly slow and frustrating. It led to a lot of negative comments on social media that hurt our sales and cost us repeat business. To add to that three of the portable units failed during service on three different occasions. Those units had to be replaced and it took 3 to 4 days for the replacements to show up. In 39 years in this business this has easily been the worst system I have ever dealt with.

“Rarely goes down”
Pros
Running NCR Silver in my business has been a really positive experience because it has been unbelievably reliable. I honestly can't remember it ever going down in all the years I've used it. The interface feels very clear and even when the internet goes out it reconnects and re-syncs with the main system once service is back so everything stays on track. It's been dependable enough that we confidently recommend it whenever someone asks what system we use.
Cons
To be honest I really don't have any major complaints. On the few occasions I've sent in general inquiries about minor issues they've actually addressed them in ways that seem to benefit everyone using the system.

“Efficient for everyday use”
Pros
Using it day to day feels simple. It offers plenty of useful reports to run. Being able to check on business activity remotely from a smartphone is a big advantage.
Cons
When an issue comes up customer support can sometimes struggle to resolve it until the next update is released. It may leave you waiting three months or even longer for a fix.

“mixed experience”
Pros
Features like split checks and tab naming have been really useful. Added tools have made day-to-day service better.
Cons
I wish the reporting could be customized more. I am quite irritated with the customer support. And the hardware has been frustrating since the chip readers seem to break all the time.

“no help from support”
Pros
I can't point to any real positives. Even after reaching out multiple times we couldn't get anyone from customer service to help us.
Cons
Using the system was irritating for both our customers and our staff because it wasn't user-friendly at all. We couldn't even collect any money from credit card payments since no one at NCR would assist us with switching our payment processor.

“Square offers more for less”
Pros
NCR's back office is simple to navigate. It offers useful functionality across different areas. The modifier tools are fairly solid although they still need improvement if they're going to work as one add-on across multiple items and support pricing changes based on quantity.
Cons
A number of limitations show up once you get deeper into it. Customer information can't be customized to show exactly what you need at a glance and inventory isn't easy to check quickly. It also doesn't connect easily with my existing website inventory and lacks useful features like printable coupon codes. The sales team also said some of these features were included with the purchase when they weren't. Considering the price the software feels less feature-rich than Square while costing about 33% more per month.
