“good productivity”
Pros
It includes all the features needed to keep a business running day to day.
Cons
In my experience it's very hard to get real help and the support team seems to know very little about the product...almost like they've never actually used it and are just reading from a manual.

“not enough room to grow”
Pros
A simple way to get a small business like a coffee shop up and running.
Cons
It is very basic and I think it only really fits someone wanting a simple plug-and-play setup for a business like a coffee shop. NCR Silver also doesn't offer integrations with Shopify or other major platforms.

“stress-free onboarding”
Pros
One of the best parts about this is training my new employees. They pick it up fast and start using it without much trouble. The back office side was simple to navigate and running reports is simple. Also the system keeps my inventory accurate.
Cons
Needs more management functionality available directly on the POS screen instead of having to go into the back office every time.

“Difficult inventory management”
Pros
Training a large group of volunteers has been pretty easy for me.
Cons
Adding more inventory into the system can be difficult. It should be more user-friendly for annual inventory counts. I'd also like the option to rent extra equipment such as a scanner for a short time. Web sales don't sync with my system and when I asked whether it could show my best-selling item I was told it couldn't.

Bugs tend to take quite a while to get addressed and fixed after they're reported. Our team slows down as a result of that.

“smooth setup”
Pros
You're assigned a concierge who helps with the setup and after that the 24/7 customer support is there anytime questions come up. The system is user-friendly and training new staff members on it is simple.
Cons
The back office can be slow to update sales information. I can complete a sale and it may take several minutes before that transaction appears in the back office but it's not a deal breaker.

“Strong backend capabilities”
Pros
The BOH tools, inventory management and customer tracking are fantastic. Plenty of systems can handle the basic job of ringing up a sale but Silver includes features I didn't even realize I needed until I started using them. Things like calculating sales tax for state filing and pulling up previous customer purchases have been incredibly useful.
Cons
I'd really like the option to add devices without paying extra fees. I still don't understand why having a second device should affect the cost that much. I kept the app on my phone only as a backup in case something happened to my tablet but then realized I was being charged monthly for something I wasn't actually using. Also when the Wi-Fi goes down it would be helpful if transactions could be cached offline and processed once the connection comes back. Right now, I have to fall back on old carbon copy forms to take an impression and run the transaction later.

“great for managers”
Pros
Catching new hires up to speed on the POS is really easy. As a manager I also appreciate how much information I can pull from the back office whenever I have access to a computer or laptop.
Cons
There are only a handful of things I wish we could tweak. Like with most software occasional minor glitches come up but they're not enough to be a deal breaker. Customer support can be inconsistent though. They're often friendly but a lot of the time the issue gets passed to another department because they can't resolve it right away

“Inflexible system”
Pros
The back office makes programming simple and the POS itself is very user friendly to work with day to day.
Cons
Some features are missing that would make it work better for other types of businesses such as salons. For example the tip function should let you assign tips to specific employees. It also needs a setting that prevents cashiers from viewing other employees' tips in recall history. That has been a problem for us. It would also help if the customer info section allowed multiple phone numbers like cell and home. Since we are in the pet industry a customizable customer tab would be really useful so we could add details like pet name, breed and date of birth. A few glitches I've already reported continue to happen. Tech support needs to provide better solutions and respond more quickly.

“reporting is simple but could be improved”
Pros
Once everything was finally configured using it day to day was pretty conveninent. The back office works fine and the reporting is efficient and simple to work with. Being cloud-based is also a major advantage.
Cons
Getting started was brutal. Also the price is definitely on the high side. Customer service was basically nonexistent so I say don't even bother with it. The system crashed more than once and integrating payroll and past sales history is not easy at all.

“Accessible for staff”
Pros
From what I've seen Aloha is the POS most restaurants rely on. I've also used it in Central America at four different locations and owners typically chose it because it was easy for staff to use.
Cons
The older system designs aren't very easy to update.

“reliable support”
Pros
With POS software issues need to be handled right away because I'm using it in real time and that's where this one really delivers. Their customer service is excellent--they almost always answer immediately and they consistently know exactly what steps to walk you through to fix the problem.
Cons
It's built as a system for multiple types of businesses so as a restaurant we had to adjust to a few features that feel more geared toward general retail. That said it still includes restaurant-specific functions like table assignment and similar tools.

“Detailed SKUs”
Pros
I can set up the items I sell as specifcially as i want. We stock several thousand SKUs and the system lets me program the barcode for every variation of every product. The reporting is useful for running the business especially the sales reports and time clock reports but it doesn't cover everything.
Cons
Reporting still has some limits for what my business needs. There's no way to see the quantity and dollar value of inventory on hand for a given period. In my industry I need monthly inventory totals available in both units and dollar amounts. It also doesn't provide shrinkage tracking for damaged, shopworn or missing items.

Pros
Working with it is very simple whether I'm using it on the iPad or managing things in the back office on a computer.
Cons
Since it's designed mainly for shops and cafes it doesn't always include the exact feature I'm looking for. But I will say that it's usually simple enough to find a workaround and make it do what I need.
