“flexible back office access”
Pros
Using the menu on the POS is easy. The back office is user-friendly too. It's also really convenient that I can access it from anywhere and on just about any device.
Cons
Most of the trouble we've run into with this software has been related to scale integration. It doesn't completely support all of the scale features we need so we've had to come up with workarounds for some things. We had problems with the small scale and NCR Silver Quick Service but after switching to NCR Silver Restaurant Pro and the GRS-60 scale things have worked much better.

“Price keeps changing”
Pros
I appreciate the variety of reports it offers. It also comes with a wide range of built-in tools covering everything from POS features to customer loyalty programs.
Cons
The pricing seems to keep increasing. Pricing was actually the main reason I originally decided to go with NCR.

“no hourly view”
Pros
Having totals by day or for any date range is really useful.
Cons
What's missing in my opinion is hourly totals so there's no clear way to track how sales move throughout the day for planning purposes.

“good data visuals”
Pros
The graphs are really useful to us. Sales tracking works well and the system is simple to use.
Cons
It resets too often and there are too many updates. Customer support needs to be better.

“limited system memory”
Pros
Working with this software has been simple for both management and employees. Entering information, printing reports and handling day-to-day transactions all feel manageable.
Cons
The system stores transaction history for only 13 months. I understand that keeping less data probably helps performance but there are definitely situations where being able to look up a customer's older purchase history would be really valuable no matter how long ago the sale happened.

“too many steps just to reprint a delivery receipt”
Pros
The system feels easy to use and the layout is clean. It's especially helpful that we can organize products into our own categories, sell items either individually or by weight and keep track of what has been sold.
Cons
A bigger problem for us is receipt printing control. We do many deliveries so we need an option to print the customer address and product quantities in a larger font. We also need to print two receipts at the same time. One for the customer and one for the driver. Right now we have to find the last sale and reprint it. That takes at least four steps. We also want to see old transactions right from the POS. Many customers ask us to check what they ordered last season or even a few seasons ago. Right now we have to use a long back office process. We open results then POS transactions. We set date ranges by hand with no quick choice for one year or many years. We search by customer name. Then we open line items for each transaction we check. This takes too long. Also the labels for some actions do not match how we think when we look for this info. We also want to merge customer histories. Sometimes duplicate customer accounts get made by mistake. There is no simple way to combine them right now.

“Far too expensive”
Pros
It does a nice job of keeping customer contact information on file.
Cons
We've run into several recurring problems with the credit card processing and too many of them still haven't been resolved.

“cuts my POS hardware expenses”
Pros
Since it works on iPads I'm not stuck buying proprietary point-of-sale hardware that tends to be expensive.
Cons
Reporting and export features still feel pretty limited. The basic tools are included but there's not much available for mid-to advanced-level sorting, filtering, custom queries and similar reporting needs.

“full visibility into products”
Pros
Keeping track of all my products and the revenue they generate has been really helpful. It gives me solid accountability across the board.
Cons
The downside is that there aren't gift card options available in the places where the system prompts for them.

“Hassle-free program”
Pros
Making updates and using the program is simple for me. It doesn't take much effort to learn or manage day to day.
Cons
Synchronization is lacking between the system phone, customer records and payment methods that aren't card-based.

“no inventory tracking”
Pros
Handling transactions is very easy and the reporting tools are excellent. Both day-to-day use and pulling reports are very user-friendly.
Cons
I think the biggest gap is the lack of real inventory tracking. You can enter inventory items but as a retailer I need to actually monitor stock levels so I know when to reorder and what needs to be purchased. Silver doesn't provide that functionality and it's something I've heard other retailers mention as well.

“Great POS”
Pros
Everything about this company and the NCR Silver apps and POS has been excellent for me.
Cons

“Limited integrations”
Pros
It's a cloud-based software so it comes with all the convenience of cloud-based systems. I also like how easy it is to use.
Cons
After more than two years of us using it the system still feels like it hasn't really progressed. It doesn't integrate with Shopify, isn't welcoming for outside developers and there's no transfer function between stores.

“no customer support”
Pros
The back-office tools help us stay on top of inventory and sales.
Cons
Every now and then when things get busy the system crashes. When that happens we end up trying to troubleshoot it ourselves and if we call customer service the hold time is often long before anyone helps. We're also still dealing with issues that need to be fixed with the Quantum unit.

“needs improvement”
Pros
Login has been consistently reliable.
Cons
Making bulk price changes is not it. Updating items one by one takes too long because of the reflashing so having the Excel upload work consistently would make a big difference. I know that feature exists but it only seems to function some of the time. The sales, inventory and performance reports also need to be more detailed and useful.

“easy to learn”
Pros
The reporting tools have been a big win for us and the application itself is reliable. Getting everything set up was quite easy and it was impressive how quickly the wait staff picked up the new system.
Cons
After-hours Tier 1 support can be tough to deal with at times. Since it's a cloud-based system some glitches do come up and support staff aren't always able to resolve them quickly.

“user-friendly iPad POS”
Pros
It's convenient to carry around the iPads. Organizing items into categories and taking customer payments is generally easy.
Cons
The customer database could be better. Sending emails to customers through the marketing tool isn't very easy and there's no course break option. When I enter multiple courses there isn't a button to add a line break so if there's a soup in course one and another soup in course two both soups appear under the same course. There are also occasional delays when entering tickets and processing payments.

“Helpful support”
Pros
Support is available around the clock with help offered through email, text and live chat whenever it's needed.
Cons
Tech support is disappointing. The staff is often not very knowledgeable and can come across as rude. One recent issue took 45 minutes just to be told that the barcode printed at the bottom of the receipt cannot be removed.

“inconsistent performance”
Pros
Getting new employees up to speed is pretty easy since the system is user-friendly and simple to learn.
Cons
It does the job when everything is working but that's the problem. It's only fine when it actually works. Most of the time my card reader doesn't function properly even though the devices are brand new.

“poor service”
Pros
Exploring the system was fairly simple. I was able to learn how to use it on my own without needing much support from NCR.
Cons
Customer service has been the real issue throughout our experience. We already switched to something else yet we are still paying for our NCR program and that is entirely because of the service. Honestly it seems like collecting reviews like this matters more than actually fixing the problem. When a small business like ours would rather keep paying for a product and not even use it that should be a sign that something needs serious attention.
