“costly fees”
Pros
When it comes to getting paid online, PayPal is still one of the most recognized and long-established payment platforms out there. If you provide services online whether locally or internationally, it remains one of the most common choices and nearly every client already knows how to use it.
Cons
That said, over the past few years, PayPal has felt far less competitive than other alternatives. The fees are pretty steep, usually around 6% to 7% per payment received and the foreign exchange markup is also expensive, with roughly a 4.5% spread above mid-market rates. Even though it's still a dependable platform, it has ended up becoming one of my last choices for receiving client payments.

“Universally accepted”
Pros
Because PayPal is accepted almost everywhere and feels very user-friendly for the average person, it's been really convenient for us when paying developers, freelancers and other people we work with. It has also worked well for setting up subscriptions with certain online tools that support it and the account activity notifications are a nice bonus.
Cons
The only real problem we've run into is with a few freelancers using PayPal for business who didn't fully understand the fee difference compared with sending money to friends. A couple of them even asked whether I could pay them through "Friends and Family," which put us in an awkward spot since we obviously weren't going to violate PayPal's terms of service.

“quick checkout”
Pros
What I really appreciate when shopping online is having the option to pay with my PayPal account. I've used it many times and it has worked really well every time. It gives me extra confidence when making purchases and it also speeds up checkout since all my information is already saved and ready to use.
Cons
Honestly I'm not sure I have any real complaints about PayPal. I mostly use it for pretty basic personal purchases so people who rely on it more heavily for business use might have a better sense of any larger issues.

“Secure & flexible payments”
Pros
One thing that works really well about PayPal is how secure it feels for online payments, while also being practical for charging clients for services. That kind of flexibility is genuinely valuable. It also helps that you can set up different payment methods and even manage multiple accounts for receiving payments which makes everything more convenient.
Cons
My biggest concern is with the commission structure. It is not always explained clearly and I have noticed small differences that do not fully match what is stated in the policies. The currency conversion is also not very favorable. It seems like there is an added fee and the exchange rate often does not line up with what other sources show at the time deposits are made which obviously works against the user. It is not a major issue for the smaller amounts we usually handle but for people dealing with larger sums, it could definitely become inconvenient.

“strong sense of security”
Pros
Shopping online with PayPal has been incredibly convenient for us. We haven't run into problems with declined cards or failed transactions when using it which makes the whole payment process feel reliable. On top of that it gives us a stronger sense of security than many other payment methods available.
Cons
One limitation is that account creation and payment reception are restricted in some African countries which makes it harder for us to do business with partners based in those regions.

This app is secure and very user-friendly. I'd definitely recommend it to whoever I can.
Cons
Every now and then I have trouble logging into my account but that's really the only issue.

“handy invoicing”
Pros
Creating invoices is simple and it does a really good job of keeping stored records organized and accessible.
Cons
There are a few minor hiccups in the workflow, like non-deliverable goods sometimes getting flagged in the scam-likely check.

“Convenient global access”
Pros
Being able to use it safely as both a buyer and a seller is a big plus. It also helps me earn extra income through different microtask platforms and I can shop on international websites without much hassle. Another thing I appreciate is the support for working with multiple currencies.
Cons
One issue I have is with apps that offer a 7-day free trial and then charge automatically afterward. Even without a final billing approval on the actual charge date, the payment still goes through based on the authorization given when the purchase was first made. There really should be a new confirmation required before the billing happens after those 7 days.

“flexible payment options”
Pros
One thing I really appreciate about PayPal is how many useful features it offers. Being able to create a customized invoice for each purchase is especially helpful and I also like knowing my customers can pay using whichever method works best for them.
Cons
For a long time it was really frustrating that I couldn't use my PayPal balance for purchases on Amazon since that's where I buy most of the supplies I need. I eventually found a workaround by getting a PayPal debit card.

“Simple invoicing”
Pros
When people with all kinds of online experience need to use the website or app they will have no difficulty using Paypal. The dashboard layout and icons make it simple to move around and find information quickly which saves time when searching for what I need. Sending invoices to clients is very simple for both me and the client. While there is a small fee, it is minimal. Sending money to family and friends being completely free is also a big plus. It works really well as a secure online payment method and the security system feels reliable and trustworthy which makes me feel comfortable using it online.
Cons
The hardest part comes when you have to deal with the dispute process. You cannot view all of the details from your side so it becomes frustrating trying to keep up with what is happening with your claim.

“trusted by most customers”
Pros
A big advantage with PayPal is that most customers already know it well. Since it has been around for a long time, people generally feel safe and confident using it to pay for products.
Cons
At this point I do not really have any complaints about PayPal.

“Low transaction fees”
Pros
Paypal is widely recognized and a lot of people already have accounts which makes it convenient to use. The transaction fees are fairly reasonable and we also get PayPal debit cards without any fees which is a nice bonus.
Cons
Overall, the software works well. The only annoyance is that every time I log in to PayPal.com, I have to click through some kind of promotion even when I already have the product being advertised.

“transfers simplified”
Pros
Getting money into PayPal is really convenient. I've had paychecks sent to it through direct deposit and different apps have also transferred money to it without any hassle.
Cons
I really dislike the fees. I wish there were some way around the fee requirements because they can be frustrating.

“Versatile payments across stores”
Pros
Paypal is available as a payment method in so many different stores which makes it really convenient. It's also useful that I can rely on it instead of a bank account for certain things and use it to pay bills, including my credit card bills.
Cons
The mobile app packs in a lot of features and that can make it difficult to quickly find what you need.

“dependable international payments”
Pros
One thing I really appreciate is how it handles currency conversion for international clients. If someone in Canada sends me a payment, I can count on receiving the correct amount without having to second-guess the exchange rate.
Cons
At the moment, I honestly can't point to anything major or obvious that feels like a downside.

“safe personal info”
Pros
Buying things with PayPal feels reassuring because I do not have to stress about getting scammed out of a purchase or having my personal information stolen.
Cons
Running a service-based business with this product is where it becomes frustrating. It is widely understood that customers can dispute a charge for almost any reason and they usually end up winning. That means they get their refund while the business owner is left without the payment. More customers are catching on to this loophole and taking advantage of it especially in industries like party rentals.

“Strong buyer protection”
Pros
PayPal has been a fantastic tool for me. It makes paying a business or even sending money back to a friend really simple and the level of security gives a lot of peace of mind. If an item never arrives or shows up damaged there's a clear backup plan through the dispute process. You can open a case and if the seller won't resolve it, PayPal steps in and makes the final decision. Another benefit I really appreciate is the return shipping refund. If I have to send something back and the seller doesn't pay for that cost, PayPal can reimburse up to 30 euros and that can be used up to 12 times a year. That's an excellent perk.
Cons
The menu especially on the desktop version isn't very accessible. It could definitely be simplified so it's quicker and simpler to find the sections you need.

“unfair policies”
Pros
A big advantage with PayPal is the level of trust people already have in it and most customers feel comfortable choosing it as a payment option.
Cons
Their terrible business practices, extremely poor customer service and policies that feel unreasonable and unnecessary for independent consultants and online business owners. They seem uninterested in supporting their customers and this has happened to hundreds, if not thousands, of legitimate entrepreneurs who are doing everything right but still are not even given a fair chance.
