Pros

One of PayPal's best features is how fast it lets you receive payments and move the money over to your checking account.

Cons

Where PayPal really causes problems for me is with money recovery, the holds it places on funds, customer service and even honoring its own promotions. Those parts are so hard to deal with that if you're not just making a simple direct payment, it almost feels like more trouble than it's worth.

It's really nice being able to use this for online purchases without having to enter personal information every time.

Honestly there isn't a single thing I dislike about this program.

Since most ecommerce platforms already work with PayPal, using it feels very convenient. It's secure, my money feels protected and transactions usually go through without any trouble. On top of that it's simple to use.

To be fair PayPal is one of the biggest payment processors out there. It has a simple look and feel that makes it easy to use for both beginners and experienced users. Also its integration with other platforms is smooth.

My biggest frustration is with how disputes are handled. It often feels like they favor the bigger client even when that side seems to be wrong. Another issue is transferring money to local banks. It feels nearly impossible and the steps they provide simply do not work so you end up spending the balance within their platform instead. On top of that their fees are expensive and the only reason we still use them is because they offer more features than many of the alternatives.

Sending and receiving payments across different countries is very convenient with PayPal. Everything feels simple to use and the added security makes me trust it even more.

A few transactions get delayed before reaching customers which can be frustrating. There are also times when the security code message arrives late and that ends up causing errors.

One of the best things about PayPal is that I can add a payee just by using their email address so there's no need to deal with account numbers or routing numbers. It also lets me make payments through a card and link that card to the account without any hassle. The automatic currency conversion is really helpful too since I don't have to worry much about cross-border transactions. Overall, it works as an excellent online payment gateway especially for B2B businesses.

At times, fraudulent activity can still happen because someone may create a fake account with a fake email address and use it to receive payments which can be difficult to trace. Another downside is that there isn't an option to validate or confirm a payment through email or mobile phone after the transaction is completed.

PayPal has felt completely secure to me and up to this point I haven't run into any problems. The web interface is very simple to navigate and adding debit or credit card details is hassle free. Verification messages come through almost immediately which is reassuring. Since there's also an app for both iOS and Android I can manage my information and make payments from anywhere. It also includes the added protection of two-step verification which has become increasingly important. PayPal is widely used around the world and on shopping platforms like eBay it's even the default payment method. Beyond protecting sensitive data it also offers buyer protection to help prevent online fraud.

I've been using this in Ecuador since 2002 and the only downside for me is that I still can't link my checking account to the platform. So I'm unable to withdraw or transfer funds from my PayPal balance to my bank.

Using PayPal over the years has been a really positive experience for me. One thing I genuinely appreciate is the long-standing buyer and seller protection they offer. I was once caught in a scam and PayPal stepped in and helped me recover my money which meant a lot. I also appreciate how convenient PayPal makes banking tasks and fund transfers since sending or receiving money feels quick and very practical.

If there's one part I really dislike, it's how quickly PayPal tends to issue refunds to buyers even in cases where the buyer is actually at fault. A lot of sellers have ended up losing significant amounts of money because of PayPal claims and that just doesn't feel fair.

Adding items and organizing categories is easy. The software walks me through the process in a way that's pretty self-explanatory.

The hardware setup could be better and the instructions around it need more work.

Running a virtual selling business has been much easier with PayPal for both receiving money and making payments to customers or other sellers. Since many of my buyers are from outside my country, they often have difficulty paying me through local methods. With PayPal, that problem is much smaller because it works as a universal payment option that can send and receive money across countries. Another big advantage is that most websites also accept PayPal which makes it even more practical. Overall, it has been very helpful for handling payments and receiving funds.

Cons

One frustrating part especially as a new seller, is that some of my payments get placed on hold. That was really upsetting because my customers had already received their parcels or my services but they could not find the "order received" button so I still could not access the money. Having to wait at least 21 days feels far too long for someone just starting out. I really hope PayPal improves this process so new sellers can receive their funds as soon as the customer gets the parcel.

One of the best things about PayPal is being able to get a loan without going through a credit check. They also offer other lending choices, including business loans which can be incredibly valuable when money gets tight.

From a South African business perspective, account features seem to roll out much more slowly. We only got 2FA around two years after users in places like the US and UK and options such as accepting credit card payments from customers without a PayPal account still aren't available.

Being able to create and send invoices to just about anyone is really convenient. The processing fees are noticeably lower than Square and it handles everything I'd expect from Square as well.

The only limitation I've run into is that instant transfer works with only certain banks. Aside from that, it's been a really solid product.
