provide many options

Pros

The fast performance and the wide range of evaluation options available is something I like most.

Cons

For me the software occasionally crashes and Excel exports include extra columns that I don't need.

like the agile modeling

Pros

As a user, I have found the tool offers very flexible modeling capabilities and my Excel skills transfer over really well. It fits an agile workflow where I can create a simple model first, then iteratively improve, refine and layer on additional complexity over time.

Cons

I have run into several bugs, in particular within the report builder which has been frustrating. When I need to do ad-hoc analysis, nothing beats the speed and flexibility of a Tabular Model used through a PivotTable and I really wish the Jedox Excel add-in were as easy to use as that.

Data-driven modeling

Pros

The GUI for data-driven modeling is excellent for rapidly taking a dataset and turning it into a functional database. The Excel-style interface makes it easy for me to get users on board by leveraging their existing spreadsheet skills so they can produce self-service reports. There are also plenty of built-in integrations and connectors that help me link to other databases without a lot of extra setup.

Cons

The data visualizations and dashboards feel very Excel-like. I am finding it a bit clunky when I want to quickly experiment and explore data the way I can in other popular BI tools.

Saves time, occasional slowness

Pros

I really like how Jedox makes it easy to work with complex data structures as it's saved me a huge amount of time and effort.

Cons

For me the main drawback is the occasional slowness when Jedox pulls certain data from the server which can be frustrating during time-sensitive tasks.

Visual etl, Excel Online

Pros

It is really easy to use especially for creating reports and building clear dashboards. For me building web reports felt like putting Excel online so moving from spreadsheets to interactive dashboards was simple. Budgeting and planning were also easy to set up once I added a few dynamic reports. The ETL flow is visual and easy to follow so I can track each step clearly. I also like that it works well with many modern databases. I can use R scripts or other code to automate tasks and security and admin work are simplified.

Cons

At first we had no training when the tool was introduced so I struggled a lot to grasp how things worked under the hood. Thankfully the training has gotten much better now and they seem to be moving in the right direction with their learning resources. One practical tip I learned the hard way is to keep the Excel add-in for our current Jedox version safely stored within the organisation. tracking down add-ins for older versions later can be a real pain. Even though I think the product is excellent, putting the entire ETL development inside Jedox comes with a downsid like it can create a heavy dependency on the platform. If the company ever decides to reassess its BI stack, switching away would be costly and could mean basically starting from scratch. To reduce that risk I recommend a hybrid strategy as handle the bulk of ETL on something like SQL Server and leave the remainder in Jedox. Having said that, their ongoing R&D means they keep delivering new features in later releases so if you're committed long-term, building end-to-end within Jedox can still produce great outcomes. I also wish they made archived add-ins easier to find and download.

Simple value changes

Pros

What I like is that it offers options for creating data cubes and provides a simple way to change specific values.

Cons

I noticed there is only a small amount of product information available which makes it harder to fully understand or get up to speed with all the features.

Killed two hundred Excel files

Pros

I can easily move between menus and it's flexible enough to build things the way I like. Creating reports from the data we enter is fairly simple too. Plus before we switched, we relied mostly on Excel but now we have eliminated over 200 files a year. A future competitor might be a new ERP system but that will depend on what it can do.

Cons

I have noticed some calculations run slowly. The visual layout becomes awkward when I combine rows. Setting up different user views could be made simpler. A few colleagues don't mind typing things like #/! but others really dislike that. The per-user pricing feels steep when only one person inputs the budget for a single department during a one-month period. We don't end up using it every month.

Online database links Excel

Pros

For me the online database is convenient and I can link it to Excel.

Cons

I find that making a minor adjustment often triggers a cascade of additional changes and in my experience the report visual engine feels clunky and runs slowly.

See changes immediately

Pros

I find that it gathers data thoroughly and quickly and it lets me immediately see how that data affects the outcome.

Cons

For me recording multi-year financial plans isn't very convenient and managing budgets that span several years feels awkward in the current setup. I really wish the system would let me group not only a single cost centre level with material costs but also combine and compare different cost centre levels with one another.

Ad-hoc queries, no tech needed

Pros

One thing I like is that I can perform quick ad-hoc queries and distribute reports via a web browser so recipients don't need any technical expertise.

Cons

I find assigning permissions complicated and time-consuming when several people need access to the same reports but are only allowed to view different sections.

Splashing helps planning

Pros

What helps us most is the splashing feature when planning our activities. Being able to assign different permissions to reports is useful. Also being able to trigger automated processes significantly simplifies our planning work overall.

Cons

I am very satisfied with it and the support we're receiving right now. There aren't any major complaints from my side since all our reports operate smoothly. If I had to pick one drawback, it would be how access rights are handled. The functionality is there but the way permissions are managed isn't particularly user friendly for us.

Great planning, bugs need fixing

Pros

I have found it's great for planning, letting me push and pull plan versions. It integrates with Excel commands and lets me mix database functions with familiar tools. It manages tasks so even our sales staff can retrieve some basic data on their own. The basic features are simple to use.

Cons

One drawback I encountered is there isn't a German user manual. I am also limited by Excel's row cap about 65k rows. There are unresolved bugs with open tickets ATVISIO and we needed extra consultants to push quick version updates which was expensive. The browser-based approach feels less powerful than dedicated tools like QlikView as drilling up dimensions can fail. I also find it hard to pinpoint why reports run slowly and what actions will improve performance.
